Best Dragon Ball games for the Super Family Computer?
I think they're all good, except for Super Butoden 1 (which, still has 100% soulful presentation and I'm sure was very great to play it back in 1993, being the first DBZ fighting game, but it quickly became obsolete gameplay-wise by its sequel, which makes it hard to go back to.
Butoden 2 improved the gameplay in every way and it's probably the logical answer to your question OP, it remains the most beloved retro DBZ game and for a good reason, it has fun gameplay, and a memorable story mode with a sort of adventure game presentation that's rare in fighting games.
Personally, I like Butoden 3 better just because it improved the gameplay in a few things but obviously, Butoden 3 is a very barebones game, it only has VS mode. But yeah, for VS play, I think it's the best retro DBZ fighter, but 2 is very very close.
Hyper Dimension is also great, and although not as popular in the west, the Super Gokuuden are must play for any DBZ fan. Really fun with all the different scenarios.
And the classic, Super Saiyajin Densetsu, which is more like a remake of the first 2 Famicom RPGs. This game was the first ever ROM translation I remember downloading, back in the year 2000.
probably those turn based rpg ones
>>11889401 (OP)Butouden 2 is the only game that has a original take on the story, and it's an arc involving Bojack, Broly and clones. Every other game is just the usual manga story.
If you just wanted fighting, then Hyper Dimension has the best roster.
I'm not chinky enough to sit thru JRPGs so I have nothing to add but I heard nothing but positives.
>>11890185oh man i love the show that treats every character like a jobber somehow even worse than Z
>>11890206It’s a good thing you put the name of the console on screen so you don’t forget what you’re playing. I write my name on my glasses so I don’t forget who I am.
>>11890203You’re supposed to read it right to left, it’s Japanese.

>>11891418Gokuden 2 was less variated (mostly because dbz itself is less variated than DB) but it has a lot of kino moments, like the scenario where piccolo and goku both die to Raditz and he takes Gohan, and a year later, Vegeta, Nappa, Raditz and (evil) Gohan arrive to Earth and kill everyone.
Or Goku going on a date with Bulma's mom before going to Namek.
I wish they made Super Gokuuden 3 adapting the rest of the manga.
>>11890214My HERO.
I had the GBC card RPG game growing up. Fights lasting for an hour is accurate to the show but that was not fun to play.
>>11891490Yeah, but the combat is worse and less fun.
I always felt like the DS was the perfect system for a new Gokuden game, especially after Harukanaru Densetsu and that other RPG.
But now it's too late.
>>11892405I'll be honest, I never cared much for the combat in either Gokuuden 1 or 2. I never understood it, really. I remember some guy here said it was really good and addictive, but I could never grasp it, I just spammed KKH and won every battle instead of trying differenr things and developing skills and stuff. I mainly enjoyed these games due to the story elements and presentation.
Super Saiyan Densetsu is the only good one.
This fucking game, only released in Japan and Europe (and I think it's only like France and Spain, not all of Europe) had more worldwide sales than fucking Super Metroid.
>>11892435And that's not even counting all the bootleg copies that were popular on latin america.
DBZ popularity in the 90s can't be understated. USA gets surprised by this because they think of DBZ as a 00s thing.
>>11892443Not just DBZ, just plain DB.
Americans didn't even know that was a thing when they started watching Z.
None of them honestly, the criteria for old DBZ games being 'good' is being above playable with plenty of trinkets on top. Super Butouden 3 is the best of the Butouden fighting games, but it's so light on content. Hyper Dimension is totally overrated, really above average fighting game at best.
>>11892410I was the same, but it's easy to figure it out if you read a bit about it.
Gokuden 1 you basically attack when you flash or defend when the enemy flashes.
Attack combos are basically like Tales of, ABXY for each type of attack and you an assign 5 attacks of the same type using the D-Pad + button. And you learn new attacks every battle.
Gokuden 2 is more like a rock-paper-scissor system, you can see what attack the enemy will do so it's easier to counter.
