REmake sits in this weird place where everyone acts like it was this perfect 1:1 conversion, just with flawless extras piled on top, when it really wasn't. REmake’s pacing drags, cutscenes are directed worse, and is worse than the original

Is the mansion really 1 to 1 for the most part? It just feels so different for me, same for Metroid Zero Mission which is supposedly pretty close to the original? But maybe it's because of the graphics in both remakes I don't know

>REmake sits in this weird place where everyone acts like it was this incredibly flawed conversion, when it really wasn't. REmake drastically improved the graphics and controls, and kept 99% of the original design but contrarians act like it's worse than the original

If they wanted to add more fluff to the game, they should have directed all their efforts to the laboratory part of the game.
Not a fan of the switch from 1950-1960s esque manson to some 1870s neo gothic shit either.

Tbh if it was up to me I would have cut the caves completely and made the labs that much bigger. They're the only real weak point of the original game. Put some kind of big security gate in the Courtyard area and make opening that you post Guardhouse goal instead of the dumb runaround with the battery and crank. If you're really attached to the giant-er spider, fill the 3rd floor of the mansion with spiderwebs and make him the boss of Mansion 2 instead of a Yawn rematch.

They don't think it was a perfect 1:1 conversion, they think it was an improvement. Which it was.

Interestingly all these criticisms are totally accurate to this remake.

No one claims this. Everyone likes it because it isn't 1:1 and adds and changes things.

I played this for the first time a few years back on Xbox one. I’m assuming it’s the same as the GameCube version in most ways. I think it’s a decent game but it has some large flaws. I think it’s better then resident evil zero but worse than re4.

I think the game relies way too heavily on puzzles. I’m not against puzzles, but it really got to the point where I felt like 1/3rd of the games length was you figuring out puzzles. Any time you would start to make progress 5 minutes later there was another puzzle or something to figure out. I think they could have cut back on the puzzles by maybe 25% and frankly that might not even be enough. The reason why I say this, is because it not only frustrates a first time player, it actively works against someone wanting to play it a second or third time. Because there are two scenarios.
A: you play it again while it’s fresh and the puzzles are tedious because they aren’t new and you have to repeat them all again. This is fast because you remember everything. But it’s boring because there are so many of them. It feels like the zombies are only an obstacle to slow you down from reaching the next puzzle. like the puzzles are the true enemy of the game. (Kek)
B; you haven’t played for a year or two and so now you need to figure them all out a second time.

my opinion is that this was a way to pad out the gameplay length. again I have nothing against puzzles in games but there is obviously a threshold or tipping point where it becomes comical or absurd how common they are and past that threshold it’s just annoying and makes the game something you wouldn’t recommend to people.

My first play through I picked Chris. I didn’t bother replaying it a second time as Jill because I did not want to play through all the puzzle tedium again. it would be nice if they updated the game and tastefully chose which puzzles to keep and which to remove to improve the flow of the game while not removing the puzzles entirely
