Jokes about Doki Doki and Mario Madness aside, what do you think of it? How do you think it stacks up against SMB3/SMW?
I say its on par with them. Its hard for me to determine a winner on fun factor alone. I just know i like it more than the original and the true sequel.
>>11891048 (OP)I'd say it's the weakest of the 4 NES games, but it's still a 7/10. Compared to SMW I'd rank them around the same.
>>11891048 (OP)It doesn't matter to me that it's a bit of an outlier in the series, it's a fantastic fun game with interesting mechanics. It was the second Mario game I played after SMB, just before SMB3 was released, so it wasn't like there were a lot of other Mario games to compare it to at the time.
you will never be a real mario game
>>11891048 (OP)Super Mario Bros USA is Miyamoto's favortite famicom game. I wouldn't go that far but it was always my favorite Mario game on the NES.
>>11891048 (OP)It's the links awakening of mario bros
>>11891048 (OP)It's excellent and the actual beginning of the mario series. 3, world, etc all have more in common with Mario 2 than SMB.
>Yume Kojo: Doki Doki Panic started development as a Super Mario Bros. game, making DDP a reskin of a game that was going to be Mario.
>Super Mario: Yoshi's Island, in Japan, was originally going to be called SMB5: Island, making it a sequel to SMB4 (SMW), effectively being SMW2
>captain scales wasn't meant to be fought against in the original Dinosaur Planet and instead the final boss was a surprise giant floating head, just like Andross
>mario madness
is it canonical that mario actually went insane following the events of smb1?

It had the most soulful moppets and quintessential mayoral battles of its genre.
>>11891589>Wart's full name is BIG BOSS WARTBased!! Sega system scotformer amigajank!
>Mario was the Wind Fish all along
>>11891153Meanwhile, the "real" sequel, was chopped up and added as a bonus into SMB Deluxe, while Mario Madness got a full Advance remake and acted as a system launch title.
Played it for the first time recently, and honestly I found it pretty frustrating compared to 3. Maybe I needed to git gud, but by the time I got to Wart I was just happy to be done with it
>>11891587The real madness set in during SMB3, when he starts driving and speeding...
The older I get the more I like this one compared to SMB1/SMB3/SMW because it doesn't have a time limit so it's way comfier
>>11891612Every enemy in this game is great.
>>11891048 (OP)>what do you think of it?Masterclass.
>How do you think it stacks up against SMB3Another masterclass.
>SMW?Utterly untapped potential that's been left to rot by Nintendo devs.
I'd love to see Wart added in a future Smash Bros.
I played it the most of any of the Nes Mario games at the time. World 7 and 8 of 3 always just frustrated me, but I could beat this in one sitting with warps.
>>11891048 (OP)I remember playing it as a kid and how magical it felt. Dig up a turnip, find a potion, a magic door to another dimension.
SMB 3 had some magical stuff too. Less so in SMW, but maybe I was too old by then.
>>11891048 (OP)My favorite Nintendo Mario game
>>11891048 (OP)It's a fine game all on its own, but I wish Nintendo could return to this type of gameplay again. SMBX is about as close as it gets, and that's a fangame.
>>11893832Donkey Kong 94 uses some of it's mechanics.
>>11891183so the actual best of the franchise but people don't realize it
>>11893832I always thought a spiritual sequel to it and a return of Subcon/Wart, should have been the starring game for Peach. Maybe throw in a full cast of the girl characters with different abilities that also includes Daisy, Toadette and Rosalina.
