>6th gen game with a dark ambiance that's also a little humorous
>graphics kind of suck but in an endearing way
>swords and sorcery setting with generic enemies and locales
>all of the items are things like treasure chests filled with gold coins, floating diamonds (worth more gold coins), green potions and food
Kino each and every single time.

I really like gauntlet dark legacy, it's like playing simplified diablo on a console. Goblin commander too (simplified warcraft 3). Never played Maximo.

Maximo is excellent (but hard, be warned). Highly recommended. Also play Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance.

How do you stack champions of Norrath against the ps2 Baldurโ€™s gates games?

I find champions to be better, the mechanics and combat design is very good.

Frankly, I didn't like CoN, and I didn't much care for DA2 either. Both of those games felt much stiffer than DA1, with goofy animations and characters that weren't nearly as endearing. They have a lot more content, but the production values took a hit, and the gameplay is not nearly as smooth and snappy. What made DA1 a 10/10 was being short, sweet, simple and having memorable characters and locales. CoN/DA2 tried to fix what wasn't broken by adding in a bunch of superfluous junk like crafting systems and so on. DA1 is the kind of game that keeps you hooked for 8-10 hours and then lets you go, which in my opinion makes it a perfect game. The other two tried to become engrossing, and as a result they never quite captured the simple pleasure of DA1.

i know exactly what you're talking about. i'm not sure how to describe the aesthetic but it's a uniquely PS2 era atmosphere. this stuff gives me the same vibe as army of darkness and bubba ho tep. i don't think it's strictly fantasy either. metal arms and timesplitters 1 had the same feeling.
