I've played most of the "big games" on the PS2, and quite a few of the more "obscure" ones. However I'm kind of at a point where I have ran out of games I've heard of and since the library is absurdly huge I am at a loss of where to start.

What games would you anons recommend, or at the very least is there anywhere that would be a good place to start looking?

As a starting place, if it had a "greatest hits" release, I've probably played it.

Extermination really is a relatively obscure game and I don't think it was a launch title but it's often brought up as 'the first horror game on the PS2'. Damn now I really want to go back and play through it, I remember thinking it's really obtuse and janky

Damn my memory is getting bad, I could have sworn it was a launch title, but I guess it's easy to mix stuff up from 25 years ago.
Regardless, I remembered being excited for this game, and when I actually got to play it, I was satisfied with it. For the time I really enjoyed it and was sure that it was what the next RE game would be like. Later on I remember Cold Fear being the closest thing I've played to it, still a very different game though.

Try some SCE games, Okage, Futari no Fantavision, Flipnic Ultimate Pinball, Ka 2, Mad Maestro, Dual Hearts, Chain Dive, Downhill Domination, Bombastic. Not SCE but I also like Firefighter FD18, Operation Winback, Sky Odyssey, Sub Rebellion and Dog's Life.

It's alright, I haven't played it in a long time but it's a fine enough game, I remember it being fairly easy however. If you're experienced with the genre, I would recommend hard for your first playthrough.

Why do people always need these curated experiences with every library ever? The PS2 especially had a shit ton of shovelware, and among that trash heap were a lot of niche games that people with particular interests enjoyed when others didn't, like every generation. Hitting roadblocks with shitty games is half of what makes the best games even better. Take chances and don't play games just for validation.

it was well known back then same as:

herdy hardy
malice
primal
mark of kri
ghousthunter

but people forgot them, because PS2 got like 6446535434 trillon of games.
Add to that that people always parroting about the same games. And by people I mean people who only played 6 games per console.

I understand your reasoning, I mean, that's literally what the "hidden gem" was before it got memes into oblivion. I am mostly just trying to get some starters for games I may have overlooked since I've already gone through a lot of shovelware. I've literally had a PS2 since launch and bought around 200 games for it over its lifetime.

This isn't like the game cube where the library is relatively small and everyone knows the good and bad games it's the PS2 where there's thousands of games to sift through and I don't have the hard drive space to download every PS2 game ever made.

Starting games and "can't miss out on" titles are one thing, but half of what makes good games good is seeing how they dwarf over bad games. Over-curating your experience leads you to take good design and ideas for granted, and prevents you from seeing when dumbass devs accidentally do something cool in otherwise shitty games. People want to experience ALL THE EVERYTHING of decades of game history, except the things they won't like. Taking the bad with the good is literally the part of the experience people fuck up at emulating. Some of my favorite games are absolute shit in a lot of ways.
>>11894715
Then stop trying to cram decades of history into a fucking summer.
