I'm new to Rayman, but having finished this game months ago, there is something that didn't quite understand:
WHY it's unfinished??
tipically, having lot of experience with Sonic, I understand games are either rushed or unfinished due to lack of time. thing here with Rayman 1 is... they didn't have time?? how? there are multiple versions, the ps1 is supposed to be an upgrade, it ADDED things to the original version. time is something they clearly had, time to fix things they "didn't have time to finish"... yet they didn't, for some reason

Because it was made for the Jaguar, and then ported to other platforms after uzisoft was slapping some french guy who wanted 64 bit of mega power over far more tried and trusted commercial platforms. It carried over a bunch of gimmicks and tough spots and seemingly some bugs, but if youve actually played the original Jaguar version it is superior. In feel and in graphics, everything besides the last level. The last level is done better on the other platforms, a little flat on the Jaguar. Other than that, sorry your childhood was a lie its not the best version.

i get it that rayman world is surreal as fuck, so ambiental music that accompany are completely fitting. I remember the jumpscare I had in one of the earlier forest levels, the one where you have to plant seeds, the music there was fucking intense, and so was the moment. you had to improvise
and that's what makes fun fun. that moment, that experience, will forever be in your memories

I don't remember how alike both oses were, I remember some tracks were shared, and some were totally different/new, but either way, instruments do give more tension. I don't know if the jaguar version had that song from the story music levels with its "noise", dramatic music

Being a console collector, if you do play the original jaguar version with the right gear, Its actually sensational to look at. It is way less tense and easier to focus without the orchestra going. And the lack of yeah! everytime doesn't shoot your nerves. Someone was right though no kid ever finished this game, even most grown adults. Its brutal, and gets even harder on later versions. I'm a fan of the original, I managed to finish it without cheats during covid.
