>>11894414 (OP) These two things aren't comparable, the game isn't that hard except the last two worlds. But that staircase glitch is super difficult, plus unnecessary since you can already beat the game without it supposedly.
Did you guys ever have your parents help you with games? I would always get my mom to do the staircase trick for me when I was a kid.

>>11894414 (OP) I did it when I was six or seven, on real hardware, no save states you may be disabled, yes sorry anon :( though maybe your disability is not being a six year old with infinite time to play smb over and over and over (because you don't have any other games)

You can have to get it just right to get it to repeat for a while. Being even a little off means the shell will clip through you and escape.
>>11894414 (OP) I've always wondered if that is really a glitch or if it was intended. I mean, there's no other way in game to stomp enough enemies in a row to get lives.
>>11895680 Also of note is that in VS. Super Mario Bros., one of the alterations to the levels was intentionally removing all locations you can (easily) do the trick in SMB1. In SMB2, many locations to do the trick were intentionally added early in the game to help mitigate that game's difficulty. Picrel is from the official Super Mario Collection guidebook.
