Pixel art is fine, it's not the medium but the direction, a game can be 2d sprite based, high definition 2d, low poly 3d, etc but that doesn't mean shit if the direction sucks ass

i like Unreal 1 and Build Engine too.
Redfaction's Geophysics thing was fine too but underused.
STALKER's buggy ass engine was revolutionary in creating a "living world" in 3Ds. also underused and underrated.
Crysis 1 engine was kino. but the games themselves were mid imo.
Prerendered 3D graphix was the best artistically speaking imo.

Can't speak for anybody else, but I enjoy pixel art differently if the developers actually had the choice of whether using it or not and went for it just as an aesthetic, which is the case with most modern games that use it.
