You are transported back in time to 1992 and are placed in a position of highest authority within Panasonic. How do you make the 3DO actually successful?

I change the design as follows:

>CPU: 2× Hitachi SH-2 @ 28.63636 MHz
>Graphics: 3DO/Hitachi VDP1 @ 28.63636 MHz Handles sprite/texture and polygon drawing
>3DO/Yamaha VDP2 @ 28.63636 MHz: Backgrounds, scrolling, handles background, scroll and 3D rotation planes
>Sound: Yamaha SCSP (3DO Custom Sound Processor)
>cartridge slot for memory and RAM expansion
>Gex X-treme as the killer app

The 3DO is now completely fixed.
And to commemorate this new design, I rename it to... the Panasonic Jupiter.

Make a mascot platformer. Some cool animal with a relatable trade job and a favorite snack.

Just who the hell is this chucklefuck with a time machine sending all these random people back in time just so they can manage a videogame company differently? Go assassinate Hitler or something.

Focus on it's 2D capabilities instead of FMV and early 3D shit.

Insane, a literally fucking nobody making spam threads values his opinion that much. That kind of arrogance ruins lives

3DO was conceived by Panasonic, a Japanese company. I don't think the US would have gotten on good terms with Japan or anyone aligned with the Axis if Hitler had won.

No it wasn't.

3D0's business model was that the 3D0 company designed the hardware and OS then licensed that design to hardware OEMs for a fee. As Trip Hawkins said "it's a standard, like Video or Audio, we've created 3DO".

Only two hardware manufacturers actually built 3DOs - Panasonic and Goldstar iirc - and it's hard to see why either of them bothered to do so since there's little money in hardware.

The money's all in software, and if a company was capable of making both hardware and software, it's hard to see why they'd pay 3DO a fee for their mediocre architecture when they could built their own, better machine instead

These aren't actually discussing retro games, just dumb larping and "what if" bait, how would you like it if I went on /mu/ and made a shit ton of "you are in charge of [popular band], what do?" threads

Sanyo and Samsung also made some. And there was the 3DO Blaster from Creative labs as a PC addon card.

There's nothing you can do because the 3DO spec was made independently by a consortium of developers. 3DO was a stupid idea from the start.

I'd tell them to cancel the damn thing and if anybody asks why then I shoot them in the face and hop back in my time machine.
