This is an area where you can get stuck. The only hint is that you can't progress until you read scattered notes on the ground. So go search for those notes. Search the edges of maps.

You can't trigger events until you've read the notes even if you know where to go.

You walk around a lot until you find the place to go.

I'm terrible at finding where to go in games and I think the only place I got stuck was the piano puzzle and finding the key after it falls from the roof.

It's actually super easy to miss especially on subsequent playthroughs. On a second playthrough I knew where to go, so I went there and it wasn't doing anything. I forgot you need to read a specific note on the ground FIRST before you can proceed. It's just super easy to miss.

It's less of a mess than SH2's opening segment anyways. A lot of people just gave up before they even got to the apartments.

Take in the scenery as well, as it's part of the fun. Just do a run through and look at all the unique businesses.

the only thing where you really get fucked over is getting locked into the bad end. the basic completion of the game isn't that bad, the hardest thing is the map teleporting in the final dungeon which you can eventually get through with trial and error stumbling around. silent hill isn't a point and click adventure game.

This game is way less confusing than any Resident Evil and I genuinely don't know how anyone could get lost in it. Even a retard like me could beat it without a guide. The fact that Harry marks everything on the map helps a ton. In fact half of the game is spent checking the map. No offense but if you struggle with Silent Hill I doubt you are even able to beat any of the other survival horror games or I don't know, any Zelda

A big, big, very big part of what makes Silent Hill so good is the immersion factor, getting lost and feeling lost is very important to the experience, don't be a fag and cheat yourself out of a good time.

Yoshi story players don’t have this issue- as you can see, Nintendo fans never stop winning. You can try and claim that silent hill is the superior experience, but if you had played both games you would understand that yoshi story can be quite scary as well in certain levels too. if anything I would say yoshi story in certain levels (I wouldn’t expect many of you to have played them as they are hidden) can be much more scary than any silent hill game.

I can sense that you are probably thinking about resident evil as well and I have an argument lined up for that too don’t worry.

It seems controversial but one of my favorite silent hill games is shattered memories. For the immersion factor that you suggested. I rarely use the map when I play and I usually go a few years between replaying it, so I always end up taking a weird route to certain places and end up lost (not for long enough to get frustrated) and I end up enjoying exploring around.

I don’t remember liking homecoming much but even that game had a few brief instances of being interesting to explore but not to the same degree as shattered memories for whatever reason.

Shattered memories may have just simply had a superior art style that drew me in more or was prettier to look at. Can’t explain it. anyone here know what I’m talking about?

First, go outside. You'll want to kill all the enemies outside so you can explore freely. Should be pretty obvious where to go from there.

Well you have to draw the line somewhere, if you are getting filtered by a game like Silent Hill you deserve to be shat on on a retro video game board
>the entire first area can be explored in like 5 minutes if you just look at the map and check everything
>dude all paths are blocked what do I do
But yeah I mean look at pic related, it's fucking giant, literally impossible to beat it without a guide, just spending 3-5 fucking minutes to check everything, especially the dead ends, is out of question. Good fucking luck with the rest of the game OP

It's not that big. The inviting feature is that it LOOKS big, but it's not. You get that map, it tells you where to go, it seems simple, but you soon run into strange roadblocks where the ground has vanished. It's part of the gameplay experience, the game is even nice enough to mark off on the map where you can't go.

The game is litcherally designed so that it tells you where to go (the school), and then if you take the direct path to school, the game serves you the next directions on a silver platter (notes on ground). The notes directs you to find a map, which tells you exactly where to find the items you need.

Silent Hill is one of the most hand-holdy games ever if you just let it. You can explore, but don’t forget what the game explicitly told you to do.

Haven't played a horror game in years but as things are getting kinda rough irl I find myself wanting to go back to Silent Hill.

Its super weird though, is there some name or psychology behind this sort of response. The world is scary enough, theres enough stress in the day to day life, then theres the existential dread that comes with getting older. Why do we run to horror games to get comfort from all that?

or is that just a me thing? If thats the case disregard.
