The Mega Drive has lots to offer, and it depends on what you like, I've been playing Soleil lately (Crusader of Centy to you yanks) and checked out Ecco the Dolphin for the first time only the other week, pretty sweet game honestly. Check out Rocket Knight Adventure and Ristar for some action platformers, and the obligatory Outrun/Hangon mention, I love those games just driving into the horizon.
Having the CD add-on I suppose you could check out Sonic CD my favourite in that series, but given it's an NA region you would be getting the worse soundtrack, better off playing it on an emulator or Steam and seeing which soundtrack you prefer, though I think J kicks arse.
Oh an Gain Ground is a great little game too.
Have fun anon.

One of my favorites that not many people talk about is King's Bounty.

I remember for the Summer vacations of 2006, I had nothing but a shitty laptop and a pendrive with a couple of emulators and a few roms I managed to download from the school library. My parents didn't let me on the internet back then.

I spent many nights playing King's Bounty and Mario 3.

Best? Or just something that works? I bought a Mega Everdrive X5 from krikkz, it does the job okay. Not the most expensive option, nor the cheapest. There's probably others out there, but Everdrive is the brand I know.

Greetings, King's Bounty chad.
I love this game, it has quite a lot of charm and I like that it can be finished pretty fast if you want (and know what you're doing). Thanks to the freedom and randomised elements it's very replayable.
My only complaint about it is the soundtrack hearing the same two tracks over and over gets gratingly repetitive very quickly.

Pro is the best in an objective sense, as you can play Sega CD games and Virtua Racing. But if you don't care about those then the Mega EverDrive X5 is fine. It'll play everything else.
>>11906961
The thing about Chinese clones is they're often based on the really old models from Krikzz, the ones that still used flash memory. Anything you buy from him today will be PSRAM, which loads instantly and doesn't have a limit on its ability to read/write. You also have to assume the flash chips used on clones are cheap as hell so who knows how low their read/write limit is.

Thanks for your response, very interesting. This is what I'm looking at right now. The price translates to around $16. Are you telling me that this thing uses flash memory? Is that going to be a noticeable issue?

>Are you telling me that this thing uses flash memory?
Yes. It's based on a really old board revision from the early 2010s.
>Is that going to be a noticeable issue?
In the sense that it takes a bit to load games onto the flash and that flash has a limit on its read/write that is unknown.

Try to look past this guy's incredibly blurry video to see an example of loading a larger ROM onto the cart.

Why didn't SEGA put a 50/60 Hz switch on Sega Mega Drive? Most Mega Drive games were region free and identical with their Genesis counterparts, only running slower on European consoles? The modification is so easy to do I wonder why it wasn't build into stock consoles.

Got one a buddy snagged off of me before I really tested it out but for less than 20 and you’re just looking to play a large majority of the library at your fingertips it’s pretty good. Can’t account for longevity tho. I’ll pick up another one soon once I get off the 64 games I’m playing and get back to Genesis. Def want to play Crusader of Centy and this is probably the cheapest way on actual hardware

Does anyone have the Sega Menacer? I think I have the receiver for it somewhere, but I don't have the gun. Is it worth getting at all? I have a bunch of NES Zappers, a couple SMS Guns, the Super Scope for the SNES, both Enforcers for the SNES, the Grey Namco for the PS1, the Orange one for the PS2. Some 3rd party gun for the Saturn. I have the Silent Scope game/gun for xbox, but I've never tried that one. And I think I even have the gun for the Atari XE Console or ST computer, I'm not sure what's for. And I have one for the ZX Spectrum because I imported the Action Set years ago.
Anyway, I guess I have more light guns than I thought.
My question is is the Menacer worth it and does the SMS laser gun thing work on Genesis for SMS or Genesis games? I never thought to try that before.

I thought about splurging on a Mega SD just as a fuck you to Krikz but there's like, 5 Sega CD games I care about. Back when Krikz upcharged you for the X7 just for SMS it was worth it to buy the cheaper clones.

Owned this as a kid. The main thing that kills it isn't the 3 frames per minute or how basic the combat it is, it's the fact that as soon as you take damage (and you will take damage), your radar breaks and now you have to hunt down every enemy on the map completely blind. Absolutely kills whatever fun you may have been having up until that point.

There are different models of d-pad for the 3-button, some are way better than others. 6-button d-pad is superior than most 3-buttons, although the 6-button with turbo has a completely different d-pad

I just now re-discovered the total kino that is "Devil Crash MD". It's pinball, but with demons. That's the best way I can explain it. Awesome and unique game, but from my (surface level) research, it was ported from Turbografx 16, and should probably look a bit better on that system.

Devil Crash MD was "Westified" as Dragon's Fury (don't play that, they removed a bunch of religious imagery). But it has this cool artwork though, found it on the segaretro site.
