Hey Mr Zoomer, CV was hugely impressive at the time of its release. The first scene inside the jail when the lighter lit up and revealed Claire's face was like, "WHOA, this is real graphics??"
Zoomer. The game got great reviews too. This is how it was in 2000, no revisionism added.

I played it in January February and enjoyed the absolute shit out of it. First time playing too. Forgot the fire extinguisher. There was a few things like that. Like oh you didnt transfer the weapon to Chris or you forgot something. I also didnt realize the entire second half of the game you'd play as chris. I had a lot of fun. The knife was actually useful which was crazy. Great time would play again

I've played it on GC for the first time a while ago and didn't enjoy it much. The setting and map don't feel cohesive at all, something very strong on previous RE titles. The dialogues and characters are meh.

I do concede it's great Capcom wanted to explore European style for art direction, and all the way from the guillotine to the underground is one of my favourites sections in any horror game.

Nobody knew what a next gen game even was until Gran Turismo 3 and GTA 3 and MGS2 came out. All the "killer apps" from 1999-2001 on PS2/DC are like this. Basically late PS1 games with slightly better graphics. Stuff like Dark Cloud and Code Veronica and Silent Hill 2 and Twisted Metal Black and Onimusha. By like 2004, if you were releasing a game that played the way Onimusha/CV played no one was going to buy it, but it wasn't like that at first because we were all so impressed by the graphics.

DC and PS2 were BIG graphical jumps over what we were used to. Saturn/PS1 were 1994 hardware, and N64 had such ugly textures, it was almost like we jumped 2 generations in graphics at once.

Better than Resident Evil 3 Nemesis. Although some parts annoyed me(the more difficult parts), but I did enjoy this game for what it was. It is my third favorite classic RE game. Ahead of RE3, but behind RE1 and RE2. I consider REmake 1 part of the newer RE games, alongside REmake 2 and REmake 3. Don't care for the rest of the series.

Well, the RE universe is dynamic; we really have lived through thirty years of bio-organic world war over the course of the series.
>Off-camera
I will grant you, but Umbrella getting btfo'd by the good goy- I mean guys- and summarily splintering into isolated pockets of captain planet villainy makes perfect sense.

i didn't really care for it, and i really like RE 1-3. graphically, even though it's higher resolution with higher fidelity textures, i think it looks a whole lot uglier than classic RE, with the exception of RE1, maybe.

There is none, just like every other RE game. I personally hate it, but only for the story being one of the worst in the series, the gameplay of it is fine. X somehow made the already terrible story even worse too.

>What is the /vr/ consensus on Code Veronica?

Is trash:

- There are no female zombies.I expected to see some female zombies prisoners with big breasts and big butts wearing worn out prisoners suits in the prison area but no. Also, i expeted some female zombies wearing military uniform with skirts in the palace area and the military area but again no luck.

- After beating the game i expected to get as a reward a infinite machine gun or a infinite rifle from the start of a new game, but the only reward(besides the mercenaries mode) is a slow infinite rocket launcher and you ONLY get in it if you get the best score(is that a joke?).

Is it really?
It just feels longer.
I like 3 more because of the following:
>Better NG+ where you get a bunch of new outfits, ending cards for characters.
>The gunpowder mixing mechanic which adds more strategy to the mix by letting you create ammo to adjust to your playstyle.
>Several choices that allow you to mostly change how a few events play out later like where Nemesis will spawn next.
>Nemesis himself adds a nice challenge where he rewards you with parts for 2 new weapons and a single space 3 first aid case.
>It debuts Mercenaries mode whichbis probably one of the biggest contributions to the series (2 has a similar mode but that was hidden behind gameshark shenanigans).
CV just feels more basic in comparison.

The gunpowder mixing mechanic? LOL That is a fucking waste of time and one of the worst parts about this game. Nemesis constantly chasing you throughout the game doesn't make things any better. You basically need a Game Shark to get any enjoyment out of this game. Whereas Code Veronica had a great balance and felt like a true sequel to Resident Evil 2.

I momentarily envisioned some parallel universe where Code Veronica is called RE3 and RE3 is called Code Jill.

I don't know why people bitch about 4 when le classic RE had shit like this. The only difference is you actually get to do stunts like this in 4 vs. watching it in a cutscene.

CV was about Jill fighting Nazis for a decent chunk of development. It was rewritten and Claire was swapped in after that line about looking for her brother at the end of 2.

Yeah I loved the gunpowder mechanic.
Its actually very feasible to kill Nemesis for the most part.
He is relatively easy to kill with the correct use of the gunpowder and making a few choices that allows you to take half his health like the Clock Tower or the Dining Room.
And he doesn't chase you that much.
I recently as of last year played CV and I wasn't very impressed. But dope to see Chris and Wesker.

True. That's why I favor Code Veronica more than RE3 Nemesis.

I can imagine that.

The animations are so bad in this game.

And it's not just that, that's just one part of the game that sucks.
People who enjoy Code Veronica... that really taught me how a lot of people have shallow superficial taste.

The series started off with gun autists on the team demanding that they use real world guns with realistic capacities. Then by CV you've got this fag unloading 50 rounds from a pair of handguns that hold 8 rounds each.

The devs of CV were too busy adding in what they thought was "cool", that being the cringest trends of the time period, which is another big miss. Previous RE games were about taking from all time classic movies, instead CV takes from what was "cool" at the time, which means no perspective in knowing how long the stuff would remain "cool".

Even as a huge Raimi and Evil Dead fan I have not played that game. Is it actually really good? Also, I have not played Ring either

Good insight, but I also want to add that these guys always loved just being B-movie tier or ridiculous just for the sake of it and CV ended up as a side-game so they took some liberties, same as Twin Snakes took some liberties using the director of Versus who made waves for doing Sam Raimi style over-the-top and intentionally ridiculous stuff
