I must have lost at least 30 lives already and I'm only half way through the game. What the hell, I wasn't expecting this to be so hard.

One of the most awesome games on the SMS. Played a ton of it when I was 6. Very good music too.

I don't know which stage you're at, but a good tip is that the hammer is way better than the frisbee. The hammer's jumping attack can hit enemies above you, and basically hit them from places where they can't hit you. The frisbee just hits from far away and you can aim upwards.

The volcano dungeon is absolutely devilish.

Yeah I noticed about the hammer, I purposely do NOT pick up the frisbee ever because once you do you have to lose it to be able to get another hammer.

I've been stuck at the volcano dungeon indeed. At least in stage 3 you could farm lives, but here, nothing like that.

It's a great game fut it has a weird flow to it that I can't really exactly describe or explain. You struggle for a while but then you suddenly get in a groove and simply get through the whole thing in one smooth go. Anyway, great visuals, music and simple but satisfying gameplay.

My nerd self considers the story a basic betrayal of Scrooge McDuck's philosophy though: he would never simply "give" the kids their first dimes, he'd make them earn them. In a way that connects with the ending though lol

You could try the game gear version, it’s a bit easier and iirc you can expand the screen to SMS size without issues (using emu hacks.)

Check this out, I dug out my old macbook with XP installed on it (for some reason google uses the older non-jeeted algorithm when you're on XP) and got the exact page I was looking for in 2 seconds. No targeted ads or ai garbage to be found. Super comfy but it's hard to use XP nowadays, too many sites are broken and I'm sure it's only a matter of time before they change/remove it.

The sequel was a disappointment 2bh It looks great but it's too slow and easy and generally bland.

Sadly that's the case with most late-era 8-bit Sega games even when they were originals rather than ports/downgrades; Mickey got a great game, then a FANTASTIC one, and then an extremely lame final one.

So I restarted the game and grinded for lives in stage 3 around the enemy spawning statues. Even though the lives counter caps shows a max of lives at x9, it doesn't cap at 9 and goes well beyond.

World of Illusion (Genesis) and Chip n Dale (NES) have the best co-op in any Disney game bar none imo; Goof Troop is ok though it feels like a repurposed game with the license slapped on rather than a genuine adaptation.

AI should be able to figure out those acronyms. The reality is that it just scrapes info from the most basic sites which are weighted by some dumb system. Most of the time it takes results out of a Reddit thread that pops up first on Google. There is a thread up now on the best exploration games. Guess I was better than I thought. Graphics design was so memorable back then.

I think I enjoyed SMS Castle of Illusion more than the MD one. I was surprised at how much like Duck Tales this was, it was very similar mechanics (ass pounding = pogo stick, throwing blocks, similar level design philosophy, level select, multipaths that reward with treasure, and even precisely 2 levels with hidden treasures you find in the wild)
