Tekken 2 is 30 years old. Say something nice.

this anime came out around the time of tekken 3, and despite tekken 3 being the better retro tekken, this movie made it clear how much better the characters and story were before jin and ogre, because edgelord kazuya is one bad mother

That's because you may just know the meme comedy songs they had hits with later, they were decent early on and harder edged than what pop punk became with green gays clones. It plays in the ending title and its a good song.

Nah I am the OG fan, self titled and Ignition are my favorite albums. I still have my self titled '95 rerelease vinyl with Kill The President still not cut from the track list. Want to track down the '89 vinyl with the different artwork. Post 1996 The Offspring sucks though.

Played it recently for the first time. Really cool VF2 offshoot for its time, the music is 10/10 mid 90s cheese. Howeverโ€ฆ Everything else kind of leaves a lot to be desired. The roster is whatever, half the characters are locked and unlocking Kazuya on PS1 is a pain in the ass. The characters control far worse than any Tekken afterwards, even 3 which was pretty clunky. 3 was a gigantic step forward, but I agree with people who say Tekken wasn't balanced until 5DR, or more like 7.

I think it's really cool for a 1995 fighting game. Might be the second best from that year, after Nightwarriors.

I mean, Tekken was created by one of VF's designers. It was an "offshoot" in the sense how it utilized similar mechanics and controls, as opposed to 2D fighters. Paul was a clear nod to Akira

The controls is the most obvious difference though. VF2 relies on taps, like Mortal Kombat. Only Kage uses proper half circles for his roll moves iirc.
Tekken uses all kinds of inputs from taps to quarter and half circles, to difference whether you returned to neutral before pressing the next button or not.
>Paul was a clear nod to Akira
Not him. Changs are Akira but with wrestling throws.

Fighting Vipers from the same year is more technically impressive, even on Saturn. Tekken 2 is more fun and has a better roster though.

How? It's neither high resolution (VF2, DoA), nor has shading and light sourcing (FV, Megamix).

I really miss when Tekken would design stages and compose music first, and not design them around the story mode like NRS does

Kind of unrelated, but I miss when this kind of unapologetic (healthy) masculinity was expressed pretty much everywhere in the 90's. It was a clear message to all ages that that's what you should strive to become.
Forget the fact that it's fictional, just get as close as you can, because you'll still be epic looking and behaving when you reach that.
