I have a number of them. Also some other equipment that does GM and GS, I maky my own electronic music and most synths have a GM or GS mode or something compatible, though they might not always have the Roland sounds obviously.

I really like the sound of my Alesis QS 6.1 when playing GM material. It has its own higher quality multisamples instead of a Sound Canvas sound to it, effects are better too.

I also have a real MT-32 (old version which is the better one). As well as its rack mount brother synth the D-110, which can be put into an MT-32 mode with some SYSEX I have saved.

i prefer eapci8m.
i modified it a little to iron out some things and make it sound a little closer to my sbpci128.
still don't know how to make the electric guitars on doom e1m1 sound right tho. may be a limitation of sf2 or a specific hardware quirk that is impossible to replicate using soundfonts alone.

Yes, I have an SC-88 pro. I don't really play the sort of games that benefit from it though. I mostly play PC games from the CD era. And the games that do support midi, like say, Hexen, sound literally identical to the CD soundtrack.
I listen to the Viper series OST midis on it sometimes though. They sound sick in SC-55 compatability mode.

It runs fine for me on wine. You're probably better off just using FLAC or 320kbps mp3 recordings of the tracks on an SC-55 than trying to pipe midi into a windows program running in wine, and then back out to GZDoom. I am almost certain GZDoom supports high quality mp3. Unless you're playing some obscure custom map or something that you can't get an sc-55 recording of.

This thing is broken. Heretic idle demo second level music, main instrument randomly disappears screwed during refrain. Tried patching https://github.com/shingo45endo/sc55mk2-ctf-patcher , various resets by pressing buttons as per manual, nothing helped.
And btw, overall sound quality is clearly worse than this http://sc55.duke4.net/index.php pre-recorded music from the same hardware.
So how is this shit accurate? Even default Windows MIDI at least playing correctly not screwing instruments.

There are many out there, and I lack the audiophile ears to really tell what might be closest. As I had ears that preferred the harsher OPL2 Yamaha sounds over OPL3 back then, and with age maybe my hearing isn't as good, so with all the soundfonts, there are differences with the real SC-55, but still fits the sound I thought games had. Is there one you prefer? https://youtu.be/OfztYSgRTmg

Even if one track sounds decent the another will be messed up. It's all useless shit, audiophile unrelated.

Run it in multi instance mode which will double the polyphony, a hardware unit is limited to 28 voices, you can double it with -n 2

Also try running it with the "--disable-oversampling" command line
By default nuked-sc55 runs at double the sample rate of a hardware unit 64 khz, a real unit runs at 32 khz
the oversampling changes the sound signature so it won't sound exactly like the real hardware
--disable-oversampling command will disable this causing it to run at 32 khz making it more in line with a real hardware unit

This is what I run it with:
nuked-sc55.exe --mk2 -n 2 -r gs --disable-oversampling

Thanks a lot. This fixed garbled instrument, at last the decently sounding real solution. Hooray.

The funny thing, i tried both options myself (--disable-oversampling and -n 2), but i was tired late at night and thought i had run two emulators by mistake and closed them so i coudn't see the effect lol. Thank you again. It would be nice if possible to run two threads with only one window, because two windows at once is confusing and awkward to use, but whatever, at least it works.

Related to nuked sc-55, is there a foobar2000 plugin that let you select the loopmidi device as output? The ones that I tried already come with midi emulation but don't have an external option.

I havenโ€™t entered my dos build era. Looking forward to making a build with this during my midlife crisis and playing Duke 3D

Roland JV-1010 gang. By far my favorite sounding synth for retro gaming.

You can install an add-in card for additional voices/capabilities.

Not really, GUI-Float is based on this fork https://github.com/jcmoyer/Nuked-SC55 which is superior having --gain option to set volume and actually working --no-lcd option for headless operation not spamming windows and saving some CPU time. GUI is nice introduction but ultimately useless for games since you don't need to operate the thing.

Also I've found interesting thing, for some games (namely Blasphemer) MIDI sounds very bad, OPL/Soundblaster is way better and GravisUltraSound(GUS) is nice too but depend on patches pack, there are two mainly: dgguspat.zip lite one and eawpats.zip more elaborate samples but drums are too much pronounced spoiling it.

Is it possible for the program to save the volume settings? It always goes back to default every time I restart it.

Yes, SC-55, I really like it.
