This game's defaults controls are crazy. I can't seem to overwrite my brain's desire to use the left hand to move the character, and the right to move the crosshairs. Also L/R to jump was a bold choice too.
Fun game though.
Congrats on playing your first retro game
Dont you just move with the dpad using the left hand then use the right hand to aim with the stick and fire with the trigger?
>>11935645I was using the C-buttons for it because I found it awkward to hold the N64 controller like that. But I might have to switch since my brain really dislikes it
>>11935651Report back and lettuce know how it goes. That control scheme was the whole genesis of the game and it blew nintendo's dick off that someone made some sense of their retarded controller
For S&P I use the right position, since using the C buttons to move the character feels right and I have access to the A and B buttons to toggle between auto and manual.
However, the game I decidedly won't play any other way than left-side N64 controller is Bangai O. You don't really need any extra button from the right side, you have everything you need with D-pad, stick, start, L and Z. I initially played with dpad and C buttons to shoot, but when left-position clicked I could never go back. Shooting in all 8 directions with the stick, moving with the D pad and releasing the bomb missile with Z just feels excellent.
>>11935609 (OP)I wish this game had crazy hacks like Smash and Mario 64 did
Same with Star Fox 64, even though there's a pc port now (it won't support mods anyways)
Imagine if someone made the game longer or give it "chapters" like in stuff like Kid Icarus Uprising
>>11935609 (OP)>I can't seem to overwrite my brain's desire to use the left hand to move the character, and the right to move the crosshairs. That's the control scheme I always use on the Wii U Virtual Console version with a pro controller
>>11935609 (OP)I use d-pad for movement, right stick for aim, triggers for jump, roll, and other key actions as you don't want to leave the sticks. You want something easily mashable for sword (or just use auto-fire) since timing doesn't matter, it's just about mashing.
Moving and aiming in opposite directions just becomes second nature after a few hours.
Did they change the timing or something for melee in the sequel? It feels off
>>11936769Yeah, the melee is nerfed so you have to time it instead of just spamming.
>>11935709That sounds just like what I did in Goldeneye though. Didn't that game allow you to play like that? I'm not sure because it was like thirty years ago, but I think that's the scheme I chose. Are you saying this game fundamentally improved upon that somehow?
>>11939621The game was pitched early to nintendo entirely around holding the controller from the left side. Nintendo helped develop it and it ended up taking years to complete
