This is a terrible excuse. Even someone with no knowledge of Japanese could judge from context that "sarcasm" makes no sense whatsoever. To an extent I can understand fucking up grammar like not understanding 力を求めるがゆえに失った modifies もの since it's not just a lookup away, but just looking at the basic words in the sentence should give you a sense that he's talking about the pursuit of power being his downfall.

They call it 無線機 (musenki, a wireless transceiver) in Japanese, so "radio" wouldn't be exactly right. I dunno why they went with "codec" though. My guess is he just wanted to go with a technical sounding word since musenki is pretty technical-sounding, and he just didn't know what a codec was. I can't really imagine misunderstanding musenki.

Imagine you have a dog, and you really like the dog. And so, in order to share this dog with a wider audience, you shoot it in the head, take out all the insides and staple its skin over a plastic shell to kind of recreate some pose, so you can ship your former dog all over the world and let lots of people enjoy the joy of petting it.

Also, the Metal Gear series is all about conspiracies and shit, so it's only natural that a part of its fanbase is gonna be looking for double meanings and stuff everywhere. The whole series primes people to distrust authority. Because official sources are always hiding the truth, always lying to you. This means you, the protagonist, must see through the lies to find the REAL truth "they" are hiding from you. If I recall, the reason why localization for Ace Attorney is so fucked up is because the first case of the first game hinged on a time zone difference between Paris and Japan and they changed directions so Japan was now somewhere in California to maintain the same difference. As a result, AA America is now some weird-ass Japanese colony with shrines and noodle carts.

They made a lot of weird changes, I remember one of the cases having the car steering wheel flipped. Which is really funny because in the original it's an imported American muscle car in Japan (makes perfect sense for the steering wheel to be on the left), while in the American version it's a UK (when Japan would be far cheaper due to proximity) import of... an American muscle car, in America (steering wheel on the right). Why they didn't just, you know, buy a much cheaper existing muscle car in America instead of importing it from the other side of the world and having to deal with the steering wheel being on the wrong side, we'll never know. They also didn't even bother flipping some of the scenes to maintain the retarded change.
