Never liked the super moves in Alpha. The roster is pretty damn awesome (apart from Akuma), but the game lacks cool supers.

Ingrid looks so out of place compared to the rest of the roster.
I don't even hate Ingrid in and of herself, I just think her PS2 sprite doesn't match with the CPS2 sprites of the other characters in this game.

Yeah, that's been pretty well-noted since A3 MAX. To be fair, they only brought Ingrid back as cross-promotion for her return in SF6.

The Capcom vs. SNK series was spawned by the pitting of these two exact games against each other, an Arcadia magazine cover with "Street Fighter vs. King of Fighters" to tease the issue containing reviews for both, which got people buzzing about it being an actual game. So /vr/, which is better, SFA3 or KoF '98?

Was he already known for his special custom combo super back then? I remember it took until Tokido traveled to America for Americans to discover Urien's aegis reflector was useful. I also imagine that designers wanted all 3 supers for every character to be equally useful instead of what actually happened where a lot of characters are known for their 1 useful super.

I agree and always thought the same about Karin. Really to me they both just look TOO "anime" even though I know that's sorta Alpha's shtick within the SF franchise but it's still too far with them. If I can't imagine a SF character being in World Warrior then they don't fit for me.

Why was it Maki, Yun, Eagle, and INGRID added to the PSP version of A3? Would it make more sense if it was Maki, Yun, Eagle, and KYOUSUKE instead since all four were part of CvS2 and Rival Schools already taking place in the Street Fighter universe?

The MAX characters also have more vocalizations than the A3 characters, I noticed (as in they more frequently use their voice clips, particularly when being hit).

I appreciate Maki being in the game. The other three are sort of whatever.
Pretty sure Yun's inclusion is anachronistic though, he should probably be a kid in the Alpha timeframe. Wonder why they didn't use Kyosuke instead, as long as they're just porting CvS characters.

Depends what your idea of "street fighter" even is. I really don't get how any of the SF3 characters don't fit in, sure there are a few wildcards like Q, Oro, and Twelve but most of them aren't too out there and a few of them are just way cooler versions of older SF characters.

>If you look at games like Street Fighter Alpha, Alpha 2, and Alpha 3, they sold very well. And as you already know, they had familiar characters like Zangief, Blanka, and E. Honda that the fans really wanted to see. Just having those legendary Street Fighter 2 characters was enough for those games to sell very well. But because Street Fighter 3 had started out as an entirely different game, they had a totally new cast of characters, which nobody liked. The problem was that the characters had very uninspired designs, and I would say they were quite strange in comparison. If you think about the fact that we moved on to the CPS-3 arcade hardware for this game, I think people wanted to see Vega, E. Honda, etc. created on that new hardware with the technology it offered.
>Shinichiro Obata - (Street Fighter 3 planner, Capcom Japan)

>I think it was lacking characters with traditional martial arts styles like judo and karate. I mean, come on. To have a guy with stretchy arms and he's an Indian yogi, OK, that's believable; that's recognizable. But a guy who's just straight rubber ... ? It's like they were almost sci-fi. It didn't really feel like an authentic Street Fighter game. I don't think the game had characters that felt like they belonged in a Street Fighter game. I mentioned Necro [the character who stretches like he's made of rubber], and I personally like Necro as a character, but that's not Street Fighter.
>Actually, if I had to change the past, I'd rather just not have worked on that game at all.
>Akira Yasuda - (Street Fighter 3 artist, Capcom Japan)

People at Capcom who worked on the game in the first place didn't think they fit

How does that answer the question? Because some of the SF3 characters aren't martial artists, they don't belong in SF?

>The SF3 cast doesn't fit SF because they're not martial artists
The majority of them are martial artists, and many of them stick closer to the martial art they're designed around than the SF2 characters did. There are obviously the weirdos like Oro, Twelve, Q, and Necro, but that's ignoring the other 70% of the newcomers.
Anonymous No.12018145 [Report]

Neco and Oro look like they could be Darkstalkers characters.
Q and Twelve look like they should be in some hyper sci-fi setting, maybe something Guilty Gear even.
The other characters fit in SF just fine, it's just that some of them were rather uninspired designs. I don't think Alex, Sean and specially Remy are the favorite characters of a lot of people.
Yun/Yang and Hugo are okay. Dudley I think is largely saved by his voice.
The girls are all fine, I'm sure Ibuki and Makoto became waifus to a lot of people. Elena is probably not as waifable due to how exotic she is but her animations make her stand out.

At the time I feel like Capcom wasn't quite ready to say Rival Schools absolutely was inside the SF universe like Final Fight is. Sakura being in Rival Schools could be written off as an AU rather than an actual connection between the series. It wasn't until SF5 including Akira that they finally tore down the wall fully.
