Is NESMania the greatest gaming feat of all time?
Think about it. TheMexicanRunner beat every officially licensed NES game. The majority of them in the blind with no cheats, tips or help outside of using PDFs of the instruction manuals. Did it live, in front of thousands. No rewinds. No ragequits. No bullshit. Just straight grinding every NES game.

This man casually 100%’d Color a Dinosaur and Silver Surfer in the same lifetime and spent 92 hours learning how to play a keyboard, albeit poorly.

I can't even wrap my head around how insane of a grind it would take to beat all 712 games, back to back.

Unironically, it has to be the greatest gaming feat of all time. Change my mind.

Definitely nothing to scoff at, but what was his criteria for beating the arcade games on the system? Was it just reaching 100,000 or did he attempt to kill screen some of them?

no, a competitive pvp tournament win is more impressive. right there in the image it said he only spent 3500 hours I think I probably played old school runescape for that long, not a big time commitment all things considered.

Most of the games it is stated what it took to beat them. It was almost always something lofty and given to him via community effort iirc.

>>12014062
You couldn't do it in 10,000 hours. TMR was already a great and established runner before he took on NESMania. And Runescape was fun. Grinding through every NES game until you beat them is pure torture.

A Games Done Quick run of a game you happen to know well with unusually informative narration can be really interesting. Once a large number of runs of any game at all have been digested down into a short dramatic documentary by Summoning Salt they become interesting and entertaining. Otherwise yeah it seems pretty strange. I guess it's just a way for young dorks to hang around in chatrooms. I can't understand ever participating in a super fast-paced chatroom like what the most popular Twitch streamers have; that seems truly insane and idiotic to me. But speedrunners will often have slow chatrooms I imagine. Could be comfy I guess, if you're a young person with nothing better to do.

Op, i gotta ask. Are you actually familiar with the nes library? Because i just went through 80% of the entries on his site, and the win conditions were pretty much the bare minimum you would expect to "beat" the game. Is that just impressive to anyone who doesn't touch the nes library? I am not seeing anything that looks like it required an absurd time investment in, besides maybe Miracle Piano, and even then he just did what the product was designed for. I did like though the little reviews he did and how many were mostly positive. Reminded me of reviews from magazines in the 80s and early 90s.

Its pretty easy to be mostly positive when you have a healthy mindset on video games. The tribalistic default guy on /vr/ who will zealously defend one game but destroy another in the same series is a brand of mental illness and not normal.

It's sad how his fixation on Billy Mitchell basically imploded his career. His docu videos on other subjects were interesting, but as soon as he took on a personal beef with Mitchell, and absolutely once it was escalted to a legal matter, he should've stopped talking about him in any of his main channel's videos. Leave that shit for a secondary personal channel, social media, or just drop it altogether and resolve things without giving your viewers an apparently misleading blow by blow. Sure, Billy is a liar with a huge ego, but most people don't fucking loathe him to the point that they want him to hear him being shat on all the time or really care about the minutae of whatever irrelevant thing he's doing now, and Karl's fans only went along with it because they're his fans.

Its really lame when people do challenges like this and don't do the Japanese games. I like the N64 one in this thread since he's actually doing all of them, not just the half that came out in North America. I find that a lot of the obscure, experimental games a challenge like this is meant to highlight tend to be Japanese only, so by arbitrarily excluding them you miss out on a lot of good stuff.

I've beaten 370+ NES/FC/FDS games and Lolo 3 is one I gave up on because it was too hard.
At some point I was looking at solutions every 2 levels so I stopped playing because what's the point? And half the times the solutions were crazy hard to figure out by yourself because they were about using mechanics that were NEVER even hinted at before such as dodging the medusa statues needle attack which always seemed impossible but is actually possible in one instance but only if you're frame perfect.

Otherwise the other hardest game I've played (but not beaten) is Micro Machines but since it's not officially licensed I doubt the eceleb played it.

On one hand, actual athletes have feats actually worth praising. On the other hand, sportsball fans for the most part don't even play the sport they're fans of, they're like people who "beat" games by watching playthroughs on youtube. At most they will tell you they played when they were younger, few actually practice the sports they're fans of while a higher percentage of e-celebs fans actually play the games they're watching. Athletes are also a bunch of cheating steroid abusers. I don't even know which is worse.
