I thought this art was weird when I played it back in the day yet when I got VH2 and it looked so dry and basic in comparison I actively hated it.

I read Ash and Sarah have a romantic relationship.
Is it true?
Im on the train chapter and they have had 0 intimacy.
Also love VH2 the most. Almost done with my second playthrough and plan a third later with the same turn removal mod.

I think its a good game with an interesting art direction. The gameplay is a little simplistic but spices it up with varied objectives and map design.

Maybe they shouldn't have dragonquartered the gameplay
Anonymous No.12079939 [Report] >>12080072
I completed Vandal Heart 1 earlier this year. It was a nice little game, with hillariously no balance (I could level up my magic users by constantly buffing each other, by the end of the game they would virtually wipe out maps by themselves).
Is 2 as good? Worth playing? Is there still a branching class system?
Anonymous No.12080072 [Report] >>12080078
>>12079939
2 is worth playing.
Though dont expect it to look or play like the first game.
In a lot of ways VH2 feels more like an attempt to hang out with TO and FFT. Though I like the story more.
No. Game doesn't have classes. The "class" of the character is dependant on their equipment. So if an ally equips heavy armor they are a knight or if they equip a robe then they are a mage.
I honestly find it better than the class system of 1 since at least weapons all have skills/magic.
Anonymous No.12080078 [Report] >>12080086

I'm extremely concerned by >>12079937 saying the gameplay has been "dragonquartered".
Anonymous No.12080086 [Report] >>12080172
>>12080078
Guess he meant that it changed?
Well VH2 uses a gameplay system where if you do an action, then the enemy will also act in the same turn.
So if you choose to attack an enemy, that enemy will move in the same turn and you will probably miss the attack.
Some find it hard to strategize around it and others have read the AI to the point they can anticipate the enemy's every move.
If you dont like that you can always play with >>12079745 so it plays like fire emblem with player/enemy phase.

That lets you download a save from Dengeki magazine with it unlocked which unlocks it for your memory card.

But it doesn't explain how to get it directly. This screenshot says to read the magazine for how to unlock it.

Someone claimed you could get it in Polata Village with a 100.0% VH2 and end game VH1 save file on your card in the JP version, after you talk to Nicola before going to see Kossimo.

It doesn't work. I tried it on a JP copy with those JP files on my memory card. So there's something else to it. Could be other steps have to be taken.

The save is the official way, same as with unlocking the dengeki store in BoF4. Can't find scans of issue 116, so unless someone forks over the 70bux someone is asking for on ebay we won't know the details.

Why does the screenshot from the demo from Dengeki posted above say to "See magazine for the full way to unlock the Gradius sword"? Once you have a save with the Gradius unlocked, it unlocks for ALL saves going forward.

I have confirmed this as well as the "alternate" method posted on this blog (it does NOT work):

Characters its very dependant. The playable cast is very one dimensional barring Joshua and Pratau. Joshua is great with some player choice to shape his destiny and Pratau I liked a lot the side cast. Nicola was very interesting and I liked how much of an influence he was on Joshua and eventually Joshua on him. Adele going from her desire to cast aside her noble status as what she saw as a burden to embracing it as she realizes is a position that allows her to possibly positively influence natra.
The villains are also interesting for the most part. Though the game only gives them nuance at the end so you mostly see them as generic villains but its okay since its better than them being one dimensional.
What I liked about the story is that the actual main bad, Godard, is in the background influencing stuff so whenever something fantastical happens in the mostly political story, it doesnt feel out of nowhere like TO and FFT feels.
There is a bunch of interesting political stuff, mostly how the war of succession in Natra is being exploited by the foreign powers and while you dont directly oppose them they still influence the state of the war.
I really liked the kid segment. Kids are usually annoying but this kid segment was really interesting to show the character of Joshua and Adele. Though I feel like Clive and to a lesser extent Yuri were wasted. Mostly Clive since he doesnt shows up much and his death feels rushed.
Anyways I did really love it. Its been so long since a game hooked me so much. Guess because I didnt grow up with 1, I saw it as its own thing.

I mean the game starts with a massacre and HEAVILY implied sexual assault. Then does it again later. VH2 is very dark and serious and it has no qualms using imagery to drive the point across.

Not really. The handful of new spells are neat, and you get some postgame challenge maps, but Vandalier Ash can solo them since that class is so broken. On the technical side the game has lag/slowdown where the PS1 version didn't and in some cases the graphics look worse.

So it's another sloppy port like SotN. I'm interested in the new spells though, Vandal Hearts is rather lacking in variety in that department, aside from that I have nothing to complain about, it's a great game.

Graphically both versions have their pros&cons. The 3D on Saturn looks better, less perspective incorrect textures; but the sprite scaling for sprites in the distance looks worse (that always looks shitty in Saturn games), see pic related with the PSX version on the right having distorted floor textures, and the on contrary the face of the soldier in the Saturn version on the left looks worse.

Saturn version was 320*224 as opposed to 320*240 of the PSX version, however the fan translation reverts that.
Also the PSX version uses dithering while the Saturn version doesn't, that's more of a taste thing and I usually like PSX dithering but in this case I think it looks better without.

I don't remember lag ever being an issue.
Anonymous No.12090803 [Report]
oh and also the Saturn version allows 2 mid map saves (internal and RAM cart) as opposed to 1 on PSX, if it's the sort of thing you want to abuse

You might want to look for a guide. At least for the secret treasures. Seriously, the secret weapons opens so many strategies due to the skills gained.
This chapter is tricky since if you didn't prepare in the previous chapter, the White Dragons have issues moving around.
Anyways the archer too far away for any team to deal with them so you might consider using one of the dragons units as bait to drive the archer away. Its kinda hard to get close when Thorpe is so close to him.

Thanks for the tip. I barely managed to achieve a perfect (ar the cost of not having a total enemy kill.)

Also, do certain skills have stack bonuses? I know that the Brawler skill increases damage when you have more of the same skill in one equipment.

Yeah but the idea is you shouldn't be expecting what enemy will act on that turn other than reading the enemy ai pattern. Feel like knowing enemy action order is only acceptable if there is an agility system that changes your turn order based on your actions (Like FFT or Hoshigami).
