Fine, I'll step up and say it:
The Dracula X Chronicles is a better designed version of the original Dracula X Rondo of Blood, with more content, better thought out redesigned setpieces and an actually challenging final boss.
People only hate on it because it's cool to hate on 3D graphics remakes of 2D games, disregarding actual design and functionality.

I agree with you. Back when I got it, I was initially planning to unlock the original Rondo and SotN and just play those, but I ended up having the most fun with the remake.

I'd be fine with the ugly 3D graphics, but the halved framerate completely kills it for me. Going from 60 to 30 fps is not an upgrade at all!

Also, what more content? From what I remember, Dracula gets one more phase, and that's it.

The intro cutscene of DXC is really cool
That was an actual objective improvement

Stage 5B is an actual stage with an actual boss of its own now. Also, if you fail to save Annette, she gets turned into a succubus and you have to kill her.

I'm just not a fan at all of the redesigns. The original look is iconic and used practically everywhere else. Apparently the physics of Richter's headband and Maria's hair/dress couldn't be done justice at the time, but newer 3D games like Smash Ultimate and Grimoire of Souls show that they can look right now ingame. Grimoire of Souls I like reverted all the 3D monsters back to their 2D Rondo designs too (except Annette since they lifted her corrupted boss battle from the remake, although this time she tagteams with Carmilla in a nod to the SNES game).

I agree that DXC did a lot of things right. It added some extra elements that better encouraged saving the maidens beyond just plot purposes and the higher-definition ending, it gave an alternate boss fight for Level 7 if you didn't save all of the maidens, Dracula had a third phase that was neat and actually challenging as a contrast to his rather easy phases from Rondo, and Level 5b got fleshed out too. Richter's design was a good attempt at better transitioning into his Symphony (artwork) outfit, and Marika's outfit was good as well, treating her a bit more seriously for the remake's tone, though I feel her voice work was still geared more toward Rondo's direction.

I'm not going yo say 30fps is better than 60fps but, DXC is a full remake, not a port, and the remake was developed with 30fps in mind, so I don't think it's a real problem.
ever since the 2000s, people started applying ways of judging older games with newer problems in mind
For example, modern games are all made with the same engine and released on all platforms, from phones to high end PCs, so they will all function differently and in some consoles or systems, a game might have problems lile low framerate where the original devs didn't expect there to be.
On retro games, even if a game had low framerate, that wasn't a huge negative factor because the devs knew about it and developed the game for that framerate in mind, same with slowdowns.
Even arcade games, which were the most advanced machines, has slowdown here and there. It wasn't such a big deal and in some cases it was even seen as cool.
And again I'm not saying framerate or slowdown is good per se, just that older games were developed differently than new games and low framerate was taken into account, yet people nowadays apply their modern game complaints onto retro games.
Framerate and slowdown is just an example but there's many other factors where people are so brainrotted by modern games that they will be unable to enjoy retro stuff for the silliest of things

They look more retro-accurate than the pansy-ass PSP models. Just get Rondo an updated remake where the original character/monster designs are kept intact and we're gold.

Complaining about framerates is not a "modern" thing and I'm tired of pretending it is. When I was a kid seeing anything sub-60fps in stuff like action, sports or racing games has always been a sign of jank to me.

This is such absolute horseshit. Alien Soldier is mostly 60fps but when it goes below that it feels absolutely fucking atrocious, especially trying to use the weapon wheel. Framerate has always mattered.
