Virtual On
Virtual On: how do I get gud at this? outcome of fights always feels so random and like I'm just randomly button and stick mashing.

Jump canceling doesn't work half the time
I'm fighting the lock on half the time
I don't the special/center attack: sometimes it's a single basic heart that does fuck all damage, sometimes it's a charged spiral of hearts that takes half an enemy HP
The spiral of hearts seems like it trivializes most fights when it does decide to come out
Because all other attacks do tiny damage

Is there some kind of adaptive difficulty going on? Sometimes I swear some enemies are easy, sometimes the same guy becomes tough

Use the arcade or twin stick controls, don't use the Standard or whatever else are the automatic controls. That way, you can have more control of which attack you're using. Remember that center weapon (CW) is RW+LW.

Jump cancel to reacquire lock-on. There's nothing wrong with it. The CPU does it, it's the intended strategy.

Every VT has an attack that's way stronger than the others (not counting the special attacks). Temjin's is running towards the enemy and firing the rifle (RW). It'll fire two huge shots that do a ton of damage.

Stop running sideways and firing those fucking pea shots, they barely do any damage and just waste time.

Don't forget to play a lot. watch replays online for strategues if you're interested. I wonder if there were tourneys with recorded footage...

It's a pretty difficult game, they should have called it hard-on

Of course it feels random, you're playing rock-paper-scissors against a fucking bot. Fighting games are not single player games.

There's nothing wrong with playing like this. Just don't do the sideways shots if the enemy is right in front of you. You're also wasting time that could be used to fire a strong shot. For example: against Z-Gradt you need to fire the strongest attack in the shortest time possible (before he recovers the hyper armor), so those sideways shots are just a waste of time.
