So do video games, if you maintain access to them. The only reason they "stop running" is when you refuse to port them...Just like old movies that were never transferred to VHS, or DVD, or BLU RAY "stop working" when newer methods for playing them arrives.
I've noticed there's been a trend in this lately; downplaying old retro stuff and subtly saying that it's "outdated" or "newer stuff is better". It's companies paying figureheads to spew propaganda to push people away from playing older games, and buy their new slop.
