Oh? Did it become unplayable or snapped out of existence while I was not looking?

Bunch of Japanese high schools start fighting each other for some ambiguous reason, I forget why. One of the most excuse-plot fighting games out there.

I love the games too. It is one of the few fighting games all my friends can play, due to its casual nature with the easy tardy counters, there's not much of a skill gap between experienced fighting game players and the casual ones. Just a fond memory being trapped in a blizzard with friends and this was the game that kept us distracted through the time.

I meant within my circle of friends. Even in that group there's still some skill gap in fighting games that there's some separation. On the overall within our group, we're still mostly casuals, and I think that makes it more fun than having one or two persons ruining the fun for everyone else. In those days we didn't really research nor had the mindset to consider what sequences which can loop to victory, so just playing the games as is with some minor discoveries naturally made it fun to me. While there may be other games each of us individually want to excel at, the mood around the Rival Schools games was more casual, as those with a bit more experience in fighting games sort of sandbagged it and let it go for the sake of community.

I played akira and sakura in the demo thousand of times. Never played the second one.

The sad thing is that you can just be naturally good at fighting games, and sandbagging for your casual friends feels unnatural and unfulfilling for everyone involved. At that point you either stop playing, or seek out worthier opponents.

I always thought it was nice that it was a 3v3 but you could keep using the same character every round. Makes the game more approachable than something like KOF where you have to play 3 different guys, and also lets you have more fun with teambuilding and use characters like Chairperson who sucks ass but has great assists

I didn't know about this before I played it and I was so impressed. The pantyshot technology in this game is more advanced than anything in I've seen before.

Sure, but I think it's just a mentality thing though. In CVS2, we all tend to go with random select for some potential variations. For an extreme skill disparity, I remember in XMvsSF against one of my cousins, we'd have the damage handicap maxed for her Ryu+Cyclops against my negatively handicapped Nash+Cammy team, and we still had fun. As casual players who aren't too bright, most of us aren't seeking worthy opponents, but rather just enjoyment in playing the games. While there is fun in competition, we all diversified and chose different games to excel at, but when we're all together some games are just more suited for fun like the Rival Schools games is to us.

Well I guess in my case, I came into the fightan game scene in the later era when a zoomer friend wanted to play 3s with me. So all my friends from fighting games were from online. They took the game a bit more competitive, and my best friend asked me only once in frustration, how is it that I just kept on winning. I didn't have a proper answer, still don't. I kept holding onto hope that he could consistently beat my ass one day. But it never came.
And, despite me getting into the fighting game scene late as a boomer, I didn't feel like turning to fighting randos on fightcade. I just stopped playing, after he lost interest, I guess.
