Action RPGs
Very broad but a style/genre I tend to enjoy...I love mindlessly hacking things to death with various weapons/spells/abilities. Bonus points if you can build different characters/create variety using a skill tree

What are your favorites? What's underrated in your view?

Best Falcom game ever. It's like diablo but with puzzles and way better.

I don't know about better, seems everyone has their own set of metrics for that rubric, it's definitely the comfiest Diablo-clone though. Just an island vacation for a disgraced knight with some dungeon delving on the side.
I wish they didn't even introduce the single tenuous plot element that's resolved borderline offscreen and never mentioned again.

Because it's D2 Belgium Edition.

Sacred 1 and 2 don't bother with 3 it's god awful
The second is getting a remaster that ships with the community patches in a couple of days so I'd wait on that imo

You should try a Shiren game at some point. It's not action in a traditional sense, but it is very unique and hits a lot of the criteria you want. They all have very addicting little gameplay loops.

still Diablo 2, call me a conformist for that.
Divine Divinity was a good D2 clone, with Ultima 7 tier of interactivity.

there's a GOG release on rutracker, you can install that and then transfer to deck

doh, should have thought of that myself. Only recently got my computer fixed so I've been pretty limited recently. didn't even cross my mind. I appreciate it.

Looking at proton it looks like as of two years ago there were some issues with the late game fmv's hard crashing the game. Hopefully the experimental build will get me through them.

got it working and playing it now. So far it's just as fun and comfy as you guys said. OST is really good and reminds me a lot of the OG .hack games. Atmosphere is really nice, art direction is good, and gameplay is snappy, fun, and has a surprising amount of depth for a one off phone game. Really glad they decided to do a pc port.

about my only gripe is the FMV's are all indeed borked. If the late game really does have that game breaking FMV glitch and experimental proton doesn't fix it I'll just move it over to my PC and finish the game on there.

actually, the latest GE-Proton fixes the FMV issues (at least at the beginning of the game) and I'm glad it did. Would have looked them up eventually but that opening cutscene was awesome. Haven't scene a OP that got me this hype to play a game since... maybe DeS?

I'm sorry, not OP and I don't want to take up the thread over this one game but holy cow is it good,
>giant purple slime boss
>just got the great sword so fight it close and rely on backstab crits
>suddenly surrounded by slimes
>barely any hp left
>"wait, I just got that fire spell... wonder if its any good"
>fire off one shot and kill a small slime
>"wonder how fast I can shoot this"
>fire off fireballs like a machine gun until there are no slimes left

that felt real good. Already getting sad the game is only around 18 hours long. It just feels great and does so much stuff that is so intuitive you wonder why other point and clicks don't do the same.

>getting ass kicked, no innate health regen or "rest" button, but can head back to the village to rest in a bed
>find a hatch to a crypt by moving boxes after the house was unlocked by finding a key in the graveyard
>find a decent pair of leggings by moving some more boxes in an abandoned house
>getting ass kicked in crypts, start investing in a 'blessing' spell, have an easier time going toe to toe with the harder skeleton mobs
>have to choose between saving one of two soldiers because the healers only have one healing gem left
>check journal for the healing soldiers quest: "hmmmm if only there was a way to duplicate the gem"
>recall finding a magic mirror with a note talking about how it can duplicate items
>dupe the healing gem, make the soldiers happy, healers happy, get a restoration spell
>get a decent batch of loot going to have a handful of health and mana potions, figure out skill/potion hotkeys
>still getting ass kicked but having a much easier time in the crypts now
Good impression so far

Front Mission Gun Hazard if you'd be willing to consider that an action RPG.

weird to think divinity was a diablo like before it sorta became a trpg
Anonymous No.12172165 [Report]

Swen always wanted to make turn based games apparently, Divinity originally being an ARPG series was due to publisher meddling supposedly.

Pic related is giving me cryptic progression fatigue. I did not have this problem with Legend Of mana.

Is SOM2 less gay with cryptic shit trying to artificially increase gameplay time?

That's a roguelike with some potential carryover to next run, not an action rpg.

If you mean Trials of Mana/SD3 then no it's actually a lot more straightforward and more linear except for the part where you need to find 8 bosses and then it's just an illusion of non-linearity because you can just fight the first 7 in any order, marked on your map and the ones you kill later in the order you choose get stronger.
