the Sonic fanbase were obsessed with sprite edits and spriting every character in every style. Advance kinda became the default for sprite comics, Flash movies, fan games, etc.

was pretty funny how, after a year of editing Sonic to make Custom Shadow Sprites (DO NOT STEAL), a whole bunch of official ones came along one day.

yeah it feels closer to something like Smash Bros. but nowhere near as fun. the different arenas are basically pointless, and you just spam the same attacks to win.

that's fine. i can't recommend Sonic Battle. it's pretty short but you have to remember the plot/background of Sonic Adventure 2. Shadow has amnesia but not yet Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) amnesia.

also Robotnik's grandfather found some ancient alien-robots but his diary had [redacted] sections. if you recently pre-ordered the Shadow Generations tie-in game to the last movie, it explains how the ancient alien-robots tie in to Sonic Frontiers.
