The problem with female characters in videogames is that they (especially cute and sexy ones) never realistically fit in the gameplay/setting/lore and are there just as the 4th wall fanservice. I started doing this shit in the mid 90's when online games first started popping up. I played a game called The Realm, I had my main male characters, but I also roleplayed as female characters, and I was only 13 at the time. I didn't do it because I was gay or I wanted to be a girl, I mostly just did it because I was imagining the kind of girl I would like to meet. It sort of became a roleplay of my own fantasy for the perfect woman... and unsurprisingly, my perfect woman tends to be a lot like me in ways, just sillier, more playful and with more stupid emoji faces thrown in like :P or :x. I don't want to say I have a split personality, but my persona in online games tends to bounce between these two types of personalities; my more serious and introverted side that is extremely competitive, and my significantly more outgoing and playful side. I even had backstories, because obviously the lie doesn't work if you can't keep it straight.

I stopped getting too deep into the lie when voice chat started to become a thing, though. Nowadays I still play female characters mostly just because I like to look at them, but those old memories and mannerisms do tend to still pop up as I interact with randoms online.

I had 2 friends who grew up as dudes and then transitioned post covid. It felt like I lost two good friends. 1 of them is well off but had hid his desires to do it for years. Looking back on it, there were most definitely signs. And I suspect I know what led him to do this. He ended up isolating himself from a lot of his former friends and gained new ones that were a part of that culture. His personality changed too and the voice they do is hard to stomach as I'm still used to the friend I grew up with. The other one went off the deep end.
