Complete bullshit.
>travelling becomes a chore
Partially true. Being fucked by the weather while traveling unprepared and barely surviving was an extremely KINO experience.
What I disliked, is that:
a)There's nothing much in-between the locations.
b)They didn't commit to the traversal bit as the distances aren't even that long and you can basically just spring through everything.
I wish it had Death Stranding injected into it.

It's a really fun game, if you have a friend willing to play it too it's really solid co-op but it does make most encounters a fair bit easier because you can flank enemies. Regardless 10/10 co-op game and really fun to explore and figure out builds. There are timed missions though keep that in mind.

Fantastic RPG, it's modern enough to not be a slog to understand, while being difficult enough to filter plebs and normalfags. Put a solid 400 hours into it and I'm still thinking of going back.

played outward a bunch around 5 years ago. If you get past the jank and general weirdness of how the mechanics work it definitely has a charm to it. I played with a friend and thats what really makes the game, I wouldn't recommend it if you're playing solo. You could tell the developers are amateurs at every level of gamedev. Eventually the travelling, backtracking, weird and empty story telling starts to wear on you once you get used to it and you start wanting to play literally anything else.

>tldr
Great concept, interesting mechanics. Terrible execution from inexperienced devs. It can be good for a few sessions until the illusion breaks.

I also hope the sequel isn't just another unreal engine 5 default settings game. If they can take the experience they got from making Outward and refine it then they would really have something special.
>difficulty
Difficulty was strangely inconsistent. You could power through a bunch of bandits but their boss would one tap you. Some enemies would be extreme damage sponges where you're just baiting one attack over and over again for several minutes. I think it would benefit alot from an easier mode or even being able to alter certain aspects of the game.

If they added Dragon's Dogma style of fast travel it would take much of the tediousness out of it for me.

IIRC my main issues with it were
>rune magic being too limited even with the upgrade, and the upgrade meaning you still had to carry a stupid book at all times and couldn't use a cool staff
>another reason you wouldn't be using a cool staff: sigil magic is just lame in general
>almost every worthwhile location is marked on the map, and the maps are actually not even that big, so instead of exploring and adventuring you're just following a checklist anyway
>you have absolutely no idea what any skill tree will do before you find the trainer, so you have to look them up to know where you want to go
Also fuck them for nerfing hobo camps while limiting you to one house before postgame, almost lost all my shit when I died in the DLC and skipped 3 days. Had to recover a backup save.

OW2 looks like it's at least letting you equip whatever in each hand, giving you a mule (explicitly not a mount), and doubling the quickslots, so that's some steps in the right direction. If they do it right it might be really good.

It's same amount of options. Runic prefix buffs existing spells, it doesn't add any new rune combinations.

And I'll repeat again so it's not swept away in nonsense:
RUNE SAGE IS THE MOST VERSATILE SKILL TREE (even without investing a breakthrough point).

Oh you're right. It's still too good to pass up if you're actually going to heavily use runes, unless going for a specific build that needs something else in the offhand at all times.
>most versatile
Yeah, it's almost too good not to use yet too underwhelming for what it is. One could argue that every skill tree is underwhelming and should have had more going for it, it's just that the rest of them don't appear as promising at first.
>even without investing a breakthrough point
Without a breakthrough point it's just a free light, a mediocre sword for fighting ghosts, and a magic trap that isn't even much of a trap when you're spamming it in enemy's face in combat. Protection is negligible. And it's unlikely you'll want to waste half your quickslots on all of these if you're not investing further.

over the course of years, first on PS4, then on PC, entirely SP, too!

It's the combat that I think always had me coming back, weapons had so much oomph to them, you could feel the enemies taking the hits, and you sure as hell could feel it too.

And full guns or bows? Why my dear Anon, do both, both are viable. The optimal way to play bows is to stack movespeed and kite the enemy, and you can hot bar multiple guns and stand in the wind sigil to make them do shitloads of damage.
Also, chakrams, you can make a amazingly fun battlemage with a chackram build.

Also, if you're on PC you can mod out some of the gripes people had with the game, I can link some below in another post, they don't take away that much from the game so imo they'd be fine to use if it's your first playthough. But for gods sake Anon, USE THUDERSTONE AND R2MODMAN, Nexus is full of outdated mods and the mod launcher is stupid easy to use, Nexus is shitty anyway.

Here I collected some of the mods I used anyway

https://thunderstore.io/c/outward/p/lasyan3/SoroboreanTravelAgency/ Essential mod, enables fast travel to all cites by default
https://thunderstore.io/c/outward/p/sinai-dev/Multiple_Quickslot_Bars/ Works for both KB and controller
https://thunderstore.io/c/outward/p/Schnabeldoktor/Alchemists_sell_bombs/ and also https://thunderstore.io/c/outward/p/Schnabeldoktor/DLC_Arrows_outside_of_Caldera/ Lets you use the DLC items in the base game, the 2nd DLC items are locked away behind end game areas that take a very long time to get too
https://thunderstore.io/c/outward/p/sinai-dev/Shared_Stashes/ every chest in cities now stores the same thing
https://thunderstore.io/c/outward/p/Gurrnak/Ammo_Stacks/ 15 shots is very limiting

Can't vouch for any major gameplay altering ones, they mostly add skills and new items, be best to keep the game vanilla, no clue how balanced they are

My issue with the game is less with the game itself, and more how obnoxiously wrong the marketing and random people's pitching of it were
They make this huge deal of you being just some dude, and then unless you really can't wrap your head around the gameplay, you go to absolutely clowning on literally every enemy in a very short time. Which is fine and expected, that's how things go in games, but man, you can't claim your big distinguishing feature is not being a big badass hero and then let you be a big badass hero pretty much immediately, doing shit nobody else has the balls to try without even breaking a sweat with a modicum of preparation

All I know is that it's pretty funny to play the Rogue Engineer spec, between the shanking and explosive traps galore
Although it fucking baffles me they even bothered with Stealth Training as a skill, especially exclusive with Pressure Plate Training, which is the only reason you'd even sneak around except the very early game where you might not survive being stabbed in the ass by a random monster
My gripe is that most other specs are pretty... niche at best, or just weirdly implemented. Skills in general are. I think Sigil magic as a whole is the biggest disappointment since it was the type of magic they seemed really proud of, but... I don't know. It's VERY effective once you get to a certain point, since when you stack your sigils every cast of the triggering spells basically hits the enemy with three different blasts at once, and with proper boosts it's easy to wipe your ass with most enemies... if you can manage to stay in the circle. But it doesn't really feel like what I think they wanted, it's really less shamanistic/occult vibe and preparation, and more the awkward early game of running around to learn the sigils, followed by hauling a bunch of wacky stones around (which are easily replenished due to crafting) so you can designate a certain spot your fuck zone and just stand there and mindlessly spam one or two keys over and over.
What it DOES do pretty well is hybrids, but it takes some time to figure out how to get the most from Infusions and manage the mana/stamina burn system.

Yeah, it's more tolerable with that, except to take full advantage of it you have to intentionally wander into Caldera ahead of schedule and get the Alchemist there. But then you have to risk your ass there to get the new specs (although two of them are more useful benefits, Primal Ritualist is kind of a centerpiece of a character and is a pain in the ass to get as a result). Not exactly peak design.
Still baffling that they made Imbue work on melee weapons, shields AND pistols, but told archers to go fuck themselves until not only a DLC, but the SECOND one. Just straight up 'why even bother' considering exploiting elemental weaknesses makes things way easier, and the whole game hammers 'fight smart not fair' into your head every chance it gets.

Just the sight of the mask reminds me of the shittiest part of the game, the movement speed. The default is insufferably slow, and then they have a bunch of gear to make it manageable and eventually hilariously fast, so sooner or later you end up having to switch between one of the bird masks (depending on how many playthroughs you did) + Master Trader gear for zooming across the map and then whatever you actually want for combat. It feels goofy as fuck.

Yeah, but you need to cycle NG+ or at least exploit the legacy chest system. You get the base pearlbird mask from the bullshit RNG, then you can shove it in the legacy chest and get the black pearlbird mask, then do it AGAIN to get the jewelbird mask, which I think goes up to... +20% speed?
It's not a big upgrade given the base is +15% as I recall, but it adds up, especially if you really stack the bonus from other things.
Or you can just cheat yourself the jewelbird mask and skip the whole annoying process when you start a new game

I never found the boost in damage to be that useful, personally, but if you really want to see the big number it IS the best option. And I guess if you went full autismo you can optimize your entire being for physical damage boost (ammolite set, pearlescent mail, keeping discipline on at all times etc) and they'd really benefit from that, even more than ordinary weapons.
>If I choose wind sigils or the imbue wind they get a huge boost of speed right?
As I remember it'll bump them back from 0.8 to 1.0 speed mod, usually on par with the non-Tsar variety.

>CombatHUD
Adds more information in the HUD. Most importantly, it shows how long you have until each buff/debuff expires.

>Any mod that gives more quick slots

>SoroboreanTravelAgency
Increases range of caravan travel options

>Transmorphic
Allows you to change armor appearance the that of another armor. Also give you the option to enchant through a crafting menu if you don't wanna fuck around with the butterfly table.
The best plus is being able to wear the spooky skeleton costume without getting one-shot by everything.

>AlternateStart
Gives you more options on how you start the game if you don't want to go through the standard start at Cierzo. The vanilla start is still an option.
It also has lots of new starts that give different bonuses and penalties. Example: One of them increases your bow draw speed but reduces the damage you do with non-bow weapons.

>Item Price Helper
Displays the sell prices of items. Helps a lot in deciding what to loot.

>SpeedOfTheWinds
Adds a craftable potion that increases your running speed outside of combat (your speed returns to normal when you enter combat).
There are several mods to increase travel speed, and having one of them is almost mandatory to not have a miserable experience. This one is the one I feel is more balanced since it doesn't affect combat as much as others that just increase your overall speed.

>Tsar Stone Crafting
In case you don't like the idea of only being able to get about 5 of this crafting material per playthrough.
The recipe uses 8 of those elemental particles you need for enchanting, which are very desirable materials, so I guess it is not that OP?

>Shared Stashes
Makes all player house chests share the same inventory.

>Skip Logos
Skips the logos when you boot the game.

>Ammo Stacks
Increases Bullet/Arrow stack size from 12/15 to 50

>DLC Arrows outside of Caldera
The game has elemental arrows but the only way to craft them is using arrowhead kits, which are only sold by the end of the fucking postgame DLC. This mod makes them available in low quantities in blacksmith shops and adds the elemental arrows to loot tables.

The easiest answer is that you start low and if you keep running out, get more mana. You really want to have that buffer, you can't ALWAYS avoid getting hit, some enemies - especially the storyline and optional bosses - have some... tricky attacks.
Technically for an actual pure mage, the pro strat is to have a pretty small mana pool and instead stack casting cost reductions, as there's a LOT of them. With the best staff and armor from one of two possible optional bosses you can hit permanent 90% cost reduction, which should speak for itself.
Ironically it's the hybrids that take more raw mana, because they can't have all their gear with mana reduction as they also want other stats, but at the same time heavier armor and skills from martial specs mean better survivability in general, so a smaller HP pool matters less.

Also I think the game explains it well enough, but just in case - sleeping is bad. Tired is good. Mages run on insomnia, and Pungent Paste is your new crack (because it gets rid of health/stamina burn without resting, and is very easy to make)

Yeah that's not gonna work, he's basically made of electricity. It deals zero fucking damage to him. You want a poison weapon, or at least whatever weapon with poison rags to rub on it.
And if you wanna tangle with magical enemies you really need to invest in some elemental resistance to account for that, as pure magical damage gives zero fucks about regular armor - you want Blue Sand at the least, which is almost on par with Elite Plate on regular resistance but has Lighting and Decay resist as well. Could at least chug some Blessed Potions to get a resistance buff to that.

So no, the problem isn't going more magic; the issue is understanding the game has a really autistic adherence to damage types, and you need to be ready to optimize against specific types sometimes.

>i take damage meanwhile enemy is fine
it's those little QoL things that make me annoyed sometimes, other games would've given you invincibility frames during that shit
not here tho
i also lost count of how many times my character simply missed an enemy with it because they just moved slightly
