Honestly? I can see it.
Remember that FF's prelude was written in like 30 minutes right before finalizing work on the game and only because the devs had a few bytes of space free on the cartridge and were like, "Hey, let's ask Uematsu to write us an intro."

it doesn't take much grinding if you git gud. The "grindy" reputation probably comes from the fact that there isn't much to the game, so kids like me would spend hours just wandering around to stretch out our time. DQ1 can be beaten in a single sitting if you know what you are doing.

In FFXIV, fire spells hurt Bombs instead of healing them. There is a lot wrong with FFXIV.

>In FFXIV, fire spells hurt Bombs instead of healing them.
Things would get incredibly messy if you started involving things like elemental resistances when many classes have elemental attacks as part of their kit and rotations.
Black Mages primary damaging spells are all fire based.
Pictomancer has some spells in their chains be fire based.
Gunbreaker has a lot of explosive skills as their big damage ones.
Ninja has several fire based attacks.
Summoner has 2 fire based summons and they rotate through their summons, not pick 1 and stick to it.
Machinist has bombs and other fire based weaponry as part of their basic attacks.

Elemental based resistances would overcomplicate things and most likely force attacks to be non-elemental or always have alternatives that wouldn't have a big impact on their basic playstyle or performance.

Many RPGs or JRPGs can get away with that since they usually just have normal attacks (usually auto attacks or a single normal attack) and then spells. That structure wouldn't really work in an MMO unless you completely revolutionized how RPG combat is done, for no real good reason.

Actually you're the retarded one.

You can only use an elemental system if the baseline is non-elemental and then allowing everyone to access most, if not all, elements.
In a standard CRPG a fighter has access to no elemental damage and can mainly just do basic attacks (not big combos or anything. Extremely basic and doesn't even interact with the elemental resistance system.
Meanwhile a wizard would need to either primarily have mainly non-elemental spells (doesn't interact with the elemental system) or have a bunch of redundant functioning spells (so even if enemies are resistant to 1 or 2 elements, you aren't severely gimped and can still attack on par with everyone else).

And for what? Some braindead
>oh i use ice spells on the fire monster for more damage

Elemental resistances is the the rock paper sciccors of RPGs, appeals to the lowest common denominator and is mainly for flavor, not gameplay depth.
