the problem is with the steam release version which only a handfull people know is, that its the og pre release edition with no patch, YES bethesda was that lazy
>how does somebody notices that
its easy the pre release version had a spelling mistake in the title which still prevailed in the steam version on release and thats the only thing they fixed bit later, also play the Unity version its a 1:1 fanport with minuscle crash fixes and a couple qol options you can turn on/off, modding support is ther if youd like that too, youtube has a couple visual guides if you need, check the one from zhakaron if youd like

CD copies of Daggerfall in acceptable condition ask ridiculous prices. Just download the free version from UESP and follow the guide on there to configure and patch it if you're that much of a purist. If you're gonna invest a bunch of money on a retro PC game at least verify that you actually like it first.

Thank you.
Now... what do I do? No, like, seriously, what do I do? I've put about 45 hours into the game, (starting the game again multiple times) by now and still have not gotten past Scourg Burrow.
Tips, advice, anything would be appreciated. Thanks.

Why don't you want to play the objectively least jank and easiest to install/use version of the game with the most support? Are you autistic? Do you still use MS DOS?

You're a mercenary who works for various guilds across the country. Your goal should be to complete the quest and bring back loot. You can look up the guilds and their rewards for ranking up.
>buy a horse and wagon
>get a quest
>go to quest's dungeon
>kill enemies
>loot until your inventory is full
>unload into the wagon parked outside
>go back inside and repeat until your quest is complete and wagon is full
>go back into town, receive your reward, and sell your loot

The money can be spent on upgrading yourself, but that's all. Daggerfall Unity is the most recommended way to play since it fixes broken quests and has mod support. If you're a purist autist, that's fine. I am too. Follow Zaric Zhakaron's guide. He's been autistically replaying this game for decades and his advice will help you.

Success is determined at character creation. Give yourself 3x Intelligence in Magicka and learn to use Mysticism magic, because being able to cast Recall and instantly warp to the start of the dungeon is absolutely crucial.

Find a werewolf and get bit. You get 20+ levels worth of stats out of it AND disease immunity (disease being the 2nd most dangerous thing in the game behind Vampire Ancients), and the only downside is a minor inconvenience at best.

Alik'r Desert is a great place to base yourself if you're doing Fighters' Guild quests because their guild halls are open 24/7 in that region.

Daggerfall Unity is only better if you think the improved dungeon map is worth bricking 50+ swings in a row on a skeleton with an elven weapon

Why even make this thread.

I had no issue installing the Steam version with Unity on steam deck. Runs great.

I guarantee you have never played the original. What's worse, a tiny bug that affects a single npc, or a massive bug that prevents you from beating the game after you put 20 hours into it? Just use mods and Unity can have your bugs fixed or put back in.

It's very over powered, which is fun. Become a Haarvenu vampire to unlock the Ice Storm Spell. It costs less magicka than what you can absorb. You basically shoot spells, absorb your own spell, and keep shooting more spells. You'll blow through enemies. Personally, I liked to just pacify my enemies, which allowed me clear dungeons within minutes.

Protip: make a High Elf. Hige elves have immunity to paralysis which is a big fucking deal since spiders can paralyze you and that's a death sentence. In the custom class creator you can give yourself weakness to paralysis, which will allow you to even out the cons of your build with some ridiculously overpowered benefits. The fun bit is that the Weakness won't cancel your Immunity, so you'll still be able to tank spiders and other paralyzing attacks like it's nothing, while having better crits for instance

No, I have the original box with the CD. The only Elder Scrolls game you want the CD to is Arena, since the deluxe one that I have is different than the one Bethesda hands out online. Mine is voiced, and the voiced version is hard to come by. Well, not now, because I uploaded the ISO of it to underground gamer's torrent tracker in 2008 along with the strategy guide.

200+ hours, in fact
>What's worse, a tiny bug that affects a single npc, or a massive bug that prevents you from beating the game
The bug that bricks your save after a certain number of quests completed has had a fix out for over a decade now. Taking 50 swings to kill a low-grade enemy when identical stats and equipment would kill that enemy in 5 swings tops in vanilla is an issue with the mod itself.
>Just use mods and Unity can have your bugs fixed
Yeah, I'll just download a mod and then download another mod to fix what the first mod broke. Or I could just not use a shitty mod in the first place.

That's all lies. There is no mod that fixes the game breaking. I'm not talking about your save being bricked. I'm talking about never receiving the letter for The Mantella Revealed. Stop pretending like you've played the original. 200 hours my ass.

You'll start and discard several characters in the process of learning the game. Start with an iron weapon or better so you don't get ganked by an imp. Ask for odd jobs around town to get funding to buy equipment. Magic-users aren't a good choice for early characters because they're squishy as fuck and the magic system is very complex. Take your time to learn and you'll be fine.

I'm retarded and misspoke. Start with a steel weapon or better. Iron weapons are one of the lowest weapon tiers and they don't touch imps, which is why the imps in the opening dungeon are such giant dickbags. Usually if you ask for a weapon during backstory generation it will be at least steel.
