>>3780235Currently there's no version that runs on newer Android phones. The last one I had where it ran without issue was an LG stylo 3. However, if you have a thing you're running emulators on then you can just grab either the GBA, DS, PSP etc version and play it through there. It was originally made for the GBA and works well, I usually just play on an old PSP these days.
As for why it's not popular, one reason is that it's quite hard even by the standards of other traditional rougelikes. You can never just run around killing everything you see, even on the first floor easily half the monsters that spawn will wipe you out if you take them head on. To me that's a good thing beause I like a high degree of challenge and it's offset by a winning game being only a few hours long, so even if you do die near the end you're not losing dozens of hours. The other thing is that it has true permadeath, meaning when you die nothing you had carries over to the next playthrough other than what you learned. (pic related, each artifact item name has a specific meaning which are consistent from game to game) Most players, even players who are into roguelikes don't like that, they want the drip of even though you died you built up resources for the next game. It's a big part of why the Mystery Dungeon series is so popular over traditional roguelikes.
If you decide to get into it, I highly recommend this old wiki. Not all the pages work because this is a copy of the original no longer hosted, but there's enough there to go on. There is a ton to learn that would take a long time on it's own through random testing. Some obvious like making a flaming sword by dipping a sword into a bottle of grek fire, and others less like making an earth hammer by dropping a regular hammer in a pit and pushing a boulder over it. Even knowing all the ins and outs, the odds are almost always stacked against you.
