I got interested in the SaGa series, but it looks confusing
Where do you think I should start?

Romancing SaGa 3 is top tier and probably the safest start.

Start with either SaGa Frontier or Minstrel Song.

This, then if you like them, prepare for disappointment with the rest of the series.

RS3 is similar enough to Minstrel Song and RS2 is similar but obviously has a different gimmick (I like RS2 the best, haven't played the remake yet).
Emerald Beyond is fucking fantastic as well.

>SaGa 1
very freeform dnd style adventure. humans, espers and monsters band together to climb an endless tower. Pretty easy.
>SaGa 2
same as 1 but robots and deeper plot. find your dad, save the universe. Moderately easy but kinda gets bullshit tier near end.
>SaGa 3
babby's first RPG on the gameboy. Stop Cthulhu from flooding the world. Easy peasy. lacks a lot of the common series elements though.
>RS:Minstrel Song
fell an evil god that got out of control. game mechanics are tight. Sky high customization. Difficult game.
>RS2:Revenge of the Seven
spend hundreds to thousands of in game years killing bad former heroes. multigenerational system, lots of party customization, like literally hundreds of different MCs/supporting teammates to pick from. Difficulty is adjustable.
>RS3
scheduled world eclipse happens, do we get angle or devil this time? Pretty challenging but very free form like the other RS games. Not too hard. a bit dated but fairly easy to get into.
>Frontier 1
90s era cyberpunk. swords, guns, robots, magic, monsters. 8 different main characters with vastly different story objectives. Moderate difficulty. One of my top recommendations to start.
>Frontier 2
local disabled man becomes king of the world and a war god. different in the fact that this game is very, very story based to the point where gameplay almost takes a backseat at times. lots of cool political intrigue. recommend if you like stories from Matsuno games.
>Unlimited Saga
"What if we made a tabletop game from SaGa?" Very challenging and unintuitive game but very fun to master. Some of the best music is from this game.
>Scarlet Grace
"What if we made a BOARD game from SaGa?" A bit more simplistic than USaga. All battles, no dungeons, and the story (much like usaga) is pieced together from the povs of different mcs. arguably one of the best battle systems for any rpg.
>Emerald Beyond
"What if we remade Scarlet Grace, but with the setting of SaGa 2?"

I haven't completed EB so i can't give a fair shake but it seems to have improved on SG gameplay a lot. Would be hard to recommend it outright since its so different than what most jarpiggies are used to, though.

Ultimately it depends on what games you like and what youre looking for. each game is quite different. What kind of games does OP like?

Any of them are fine as long as you use more then one save slot.
I softlocked myself in a dungeon in Minstrel Song like a retard.

Romancing SaGa 2 or 3, approach it with an open mind because the series is very unorthodox. Unlimited is good IF you can get into it, same applies to Scarlet Grace and Emerald Beyond, even among SaGa fans they're considered to be all kinds of weird. It's a rather big "IF".

I'd also like to give a mention to "Honorary SaGa" games Alliance Alive and The Last Remnant. If you like the mechanics of the game but not the nonlinear aspect, give those a try instead.

Saga frontier has 8 scenarios that are fairly short and has a really nice remaster on steam. SF2 has a more interesting story where you essentially play a multi generational cast through the rise of a nation. I remember SF2 being ballbustingly hard as a kid too but that could be because I was a child and therefor retarded

The final scenario on each side of the story can be pretty damn tough in SF2.

100% SaGa Frontier. Was the most memorable of all for me. Plus amazing soundtrack and great gameplay. Alkaiser is the GOAT.

there's a new "inheritance system" mechanic that lets you transfer skill ups from one character to another so the game gets significantly easier than before. That said, the last battle of Gustave's route is still a kick in the dick if you don't know/remember what to do

kinda funny how this is only possible in the remaster. on ps2 you have only 1 quicksave slot that wont overwrite inn saves.

I'm playing Romancing Saga 2 and ... i have a couple of questions :
- The game asked me if i wanted to play as either male or female but i'm playing with Gerard ?
- Went from game being somewhat difficult to game one shotting my guys frequently
- I got a few dudes that are short on LP, is there a way to recover them ?

1: That's Final Emperor/Empress as the name implies, they're the MC of the last generation you play as.
2. That isn't a question. But yes, a large part of the game is figuring out your defensive options. Whether that be trying to CC enemies so they never hit you, or using specialty gear and spells to greatly mitigate or nullify damage of particular types.
3. I think there are a few items in the game that restore an LP, but characters permanently dying is intended. You're going to say goodbye to your whole team at the end of the generation anyway

So far i wasn't really able to mitigate or avoid damage altogether, maybe i'm a shitter, but the game really doesn't mess around.

Use formations to your advantage. You get Imperial Cross at the very beginning and it's designed to focus fire on one beefy guy. Feel free to have that guy defend the entire turn, it's his job to tank. Hide squishies behind him.

One thing is that if you're dashing when you get into an encounter your formation is broken and you lose those benefits. Be careful about dashing!
