Bros! Let's all get Fucking hyped! Secrets of the MotherFucking Eastern Sea MotherFuckers! Less than 2 weeks until we get our new Wandering Sword expansion that everyone has been demanding! How excited are all you Cats that this is coming out?
I'm getting ready to start another MotherFucking NewGame+ and have a new build I' ready to try. This was one of the greatest HD-2D RPGs of all time! I Fucking LOVED the original game and have played through multiple paths and gotten most of the endings.
>>3776675 (OP)Not sure why you have to go all in on ironic shitposting, but sure. I am looking forward to it.
Even if I have sapped almost all challenge from the game at this point, I'll enjoy a bit more of Yi's adventures before they work on a new project
Damn, OP did this game dirty. Someone who really likes this game should make another thread.
>>3776681Did Yi ever get a buff since he is hella weaker than all of the other characters you recruit?
>>3776690Being allowed to learn almost everything and get more points to quickly fill up Martial styles and Meridians plus at least 2 broken inner styles unique to him has him outpace everyone and reach a higher peak already, so no.
>>3776681>>3776683Are people not allowed to be hyped and excited about an expansion for a beloved game coming out?
>>3776710Totes. My fav game getting content just sends me.
I cannot even with the excitement.
Totally poggers.
>>3776710>he thinks he's peopleHow cute.
>>3776714Bro why are you doing this? Why are you being an Asshole and ruining this thread!? Look at some of the other responses! Cats love this Fucking game! No matter how much you try to spread FUD about it and bring us down, we ain't standing for it and letting it happen!
>>3776675 (OP)I really did like this game when it first came out, haven't doubled back yet. Wish they'd make a follow up instead of just DLC.
>>3776772...This is dlc. And they made an expansion cause they released extra main game content adding new route/revamped chapters for free
>>3776777You are fucking illiterate.
>a follow up instead of just DLC.>instead of just DLC.>just DLC.>DLC.
>>3776675 (OP)I mean all of this genuinely btw. I fucking love this game and I'm really glad they're continuing to add so much. Check out the latest post about the upcoming dlc: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/1876890/view/591771368562885859?l=english
I actually just pulled the trigger on this game recently. It took me 35 hours to realize the real game was hunting down retards and beating them to acquire rare pills and books so I can beat people down harder. No expansions but one annoyance I have is that even after 35 hours I still don't have a special move for polearms
>>3776739Irony is a chain that binds you, inhibiting authentic communication.
>>3776940Yeah it's really hard to square Yi as the hero that runs around beating the shit out of everyone and taking all their shit because they're "spars".
>>3776967The path to mastery is harsh and requires you literally taking the candy from babies
Shitty chinese game with horrid UI inspired by live a live (a decent game) but also octoslop, which is a bad inspiration
I found the game incredibly boring
>>3777030And I find you give incredible head. 94% on Steam Motherfucker! How about that Shit!?
>>3776967I find he levels up way too quick in my opinion. I started my first game on hard and I really didn't have to start farming/doing anything until I hit about 2k hp and then everyone started whipping my ass. I'll probably play no DLC once and then buy all the DLC sometime and do a new story. I'm really enjoying the game
>>3777207Only this DLC has actual content in the main game, the rest of content updates were free.
You have to actively avoid a series of quests to stay on vanilla route
Random question about mechanics: One of my followers is not in my normal lineup for fighting because hes maxed out all his current methods and doesn't do that much (wei huo) but he keeps getting placed in battle even though my followers are in the green deploy status. What gives?
>>3777249Oh really? I thought I had to buy it desu but thats awesome. Already gave the scorpion to the healer dude playing a generic good guy I guess this playthrough.
>>3777263For certain questlines, plot npcs will jump in.
Which is great since you field even more people than expected.
It's not consistent, so experiment whenever you have guests forced on you
>>3777264Maybe its because I have three hopin NPCs, they aren't currently in my deployed lineup and don't join me in random farming battles but while I have them its fucking up my deployment roster. Trying to play with sword and saber hoe I just got
My biggest complaint about this game is the UI is just truly terrible. It feels like there could be some easy updates to improve the quality of life playing it. Especially anything within characters, just an insane number of clicks and navigation. Sometimes upgrading skills you can't even see it properly because of the tooltips.
>>3777267Trying to read skills in combat to figure out what they do and whether you want to use them or switching between the four skills equipped is definitely not ideal. But my biggest complaint is trying to read what de/buffs an enemy has on them in combat.
>60 hours in
>Thought "Deploying" in menu was who went into combat
>Just realized its the selecting deployment in the menu
In other news, the dlc will have both an arena for challenges and testing your team against custom formations and a new game plus+ battle tower to climb
why the fuck am I 60 hours in without a unique move for my polearm bros. I only recently realized the yanfu task I had was companion quest that was to get me to go there as a breadcrumb.
>>3776675 (OP)what kind of chinkslop is this
>>3778467Chinkslop dev learned that by aping retro aesthetics they can easily earn RPGCodex boomers approval
>>3778304That's sick, really? I never even heard of this game before today but wishlisted the base game now. I'll no doubt get the DLC once I see sales for both in the future. I'm in no rush to play but glad I came across this thread.
I love arenas and shit like battle towers, ways to push your builds and party in RPGs for some really challenging stuff, either throughout the main story, or as end-game content.
>>3778516No idea how robust or challenging they actually will be , mind you. We'll know that in a couple of weeks
>>3778547How is the base game? Decent challenge? I will play regardless but I do prefer challenging RPGs.
>>3778847What do you consider a challenging RPG?
>>3778850SMT Strange Journey, SMT IV and IV: Apocalypse on the highest difficulties. Others I can't think of right now but I know they're out there.
>>37788471st run is challenging where you try to figure out what to do and possibly miss out on lots of cool shit even if you 'grind'.
Subsequent runs get challenging based on difficulty level and modifiers(you need to actually figure out some good bullshit set-ups for you and possibly party members and bother with crafting and shit the higher you go).
If you are the type that explores everything and willing to challenge every NPC for their lunch money, it will not be that hard, but there are still moments you can get softlocked in situations you cannot raise your powerlevel much, so save often
>>3778865Noted. Man I hate softlocks. I only had one in my lifetime and it was such a bizarre one. I tend to save a lot with multiple files out of habit, not even due to getting softlocked in the past.
I'm not sure I really enjoyed the southern chronicles that much. Thought I would enjoy the jungle monkey vibes but the story was all over the place with like five different backstabs in one. Like why do I have the manuscript yet apparently so does the Lord? Who is also 2x stronger than any sect leader. Who was also going to get assassinated? And also the random literal who stronger than any of the central plains sect leaders. Just kinda goofy story. I also didn't like the girls personality, very genki I wanted her to be moody and brooding and leave genki to the little retard with the sabers.
>>3778887>>3778865You can gimp yourself bad by not being strong enough to win certain fights that give you manuscripts. Like for example I don't have the undying cultivation manuscript that would have boosted all my characters early game. I also find fist weapons and polearms to suck (especially first two characters you get) with not enough useful skills to use until way later. Also -- recruiting my first couple of bros was hard but it got progressively so easy from there I was scratching my head.
>>3779297Fists are supported pretty well by Wudangg and shaolin and even some beggar sect moves.
The ranking on how easy is to accumulate bullshit in a standard run(aka, no legacies or ng+ manual carry over) is swords>fists/sabers/spears>hidden weapons. Swords getting plot uber items is just the cherry on top
Southern chronicles are more a whole separate country, central chine took over. So they have their own bullshit sect leaders and heroes.
As for the plot questions, the guy who rescued you at start got hitched with their previous sect leader/princess and it snowballs from there.
It is worth doing a vanilla run if you like simpler things and want to see the vanilla route ending and want to romance your little 'sis'. They even added a new unique ending branch there
This was the best Chinese RPG I've played, I really enjoyed Hero's Adventure but this was even better. Great soundtrack, really fun building your character and becoming powerful both in gameplay and in story.
Are there any other Chinese martial arts games of similar quality? Or upcoming games?
>>3779406Heluo studio games
>Tale of Wuxia One of my favorites (though more for the raising sim aspect, gameplay while not bad is not as refined as later entries by the same developer)/
There is an official english release with horrid translation, and a fan patch that is better and includes later content released
The presequel has better gameplay, but plays more like standard tactical battles JRPG and still has horrid translation.
>path of wuxia Good raising sim, more refined battle system and design encounter, fan translation finished but some parts still unrefined MTL. Good first 2 seasons, 3d one a bit anticlimactic/too many things are resolved in kind of a rush.
>Hotulusho/Books of DragonOpen world rpg with similar battle system ideas. Non linear progression and multiple ways to solve quest. Somewhat refined MTL translation., you need jank tolerance. Still great.
Their next game is a sequel to this
>>3779413I remember looking into these games, never played any though. I seem to remember presequel had an ongoing fan translation but I can't seem to be able to find it anymore?
>>3779433Presequel has an official release that was awful.

>>3779331I will have to check them more religiously I guess and figure out what I am supposed to chain together. I've just never really found Chen to do much for me with his fist weapons and hes always out of position because not enough movement range.
>>3779779Chen sucks ass kinda sorta cause there are inner arts he cannot learn and base stats are meh.
Your MC can learn inner and martial arts chen cannot (like tai chi shit)
You get two much better fist users later (one broken and one who is very good AND can use hidden weapons too, which is unique)
I'm point of the game where theres less guides and now I am conflicted on whether I train Cheng Yu to be stronger (and probably get him killed) or advise him and get no benefits.
>>3779804His base stats are trash and yeah I wasn't getting enough books to make him fun to use in combat. Kinda same feeling with Wei Huo early game. MC can consult so they can grow way more powerful than the game intends stacking shit.
>>3779985He is unfortunately one of the 3-4 standard companions that has no unique skills you cannot get (or that are gated for a while) and with stats that are surpassed easily.
It's him, kong, a sword lady you can recruit later and kinda sorta Wei Huo (he gets SOE cool shit later technically and because he is with you from the start, he gets lots of meridians quickly, but his competition is just better).
Others either have some unique gimmick or are strong enough to warrant their use till better option come along , like Bai Jin. I guess Nanjiang chronicles also introduced some weird cases to consider, but that is a long story
>>3780143Some companions need fleshed out stories to power them up I guess. I could imagine chen wanting to fist every martial club owner and getting more powerful for it. That also brings me to some areas like gusu or tangcheng being well fleshed out while some areas like yanfu town is devoid of content. I also assume in the early version of the game they were considering you buying up housing because there is a cute house by the giant temple on that huge ass map. I also imagine the early design involved you choosing a random sect to join and level up perhaps based on the design of sect hqs
>>3780146Main plot set-up is too heavily invested in Wudagg. Wuxia games tend to have sect halls be the area for quests/events or tourneys in general. I think they just underutilized most of them
>do the first companion's quest of going to a martial art school
>the fake teacher one shots me
How am I supposed to know the order of the side quests?
>>3780336That is the neat part, you don't.
Generally though, any quest available on the act you are in (aka before you get promoted within wudang) can be finished within the act
some sparring people got crazy loot. Dude only has 4k hp but hes got tier 3 weapon bp and other good stuff to beat his ass in Linchang.
>>3780336Have fun getting a bunch of potential companions killed because you chosen route A instead of route B to place X or you complimented them too much or some stupid shit like that. Still side-stuff was way better than the vanilla story. I need to check out what they changed since release.
>>3780379Yeah, you should play blind the first time and after that use a guide
There's tons of missable stuff
>>3776675 (OP)What's up with all the shilling? This seems like it might be an interesting game, but I'm not sure I can trust it because of all the over the top shilling in this thread.
>>3780758I never trust anyone who hype up a chinkslop unless it's 100% original or interesting.
This game apes Octoslop and Live-a-live so it's not one of those "worthy" ones.
>>3780758>>3780761The whole 'Bros! so fucking hyped broskis! Get hyped cats' shtick did not clue you in on somebody shitposting?

Holy fuck do I feel like I bricked my current run. Missed out on multiple partners and should have met the herbal saint way sooner. I've already been to pili school and I don't see a way to get a black visage scorpion before the quest fails by main story progression.
>>3780783Just finish the run. Endgame flavor is very different at this point and unlocking NG+ will make a proper run go much faster.
>>3780796Yeah it's just annoying how complex certain events are and with all the content and the quest log being shut
>Find the herbal saint!>Nothing else about the event history etc>Whoops you didn't read the invitation? >Better hope you remembered you got one 30 hours later>Here's a pili school invitation >Whoops you went already? Sorry no return trips you fail
new characters start with way too much exp. With 30k they always end up with 5-8k and maxed everything
>>3781219>30kThat is nothing.
You likely do not have enough of the bullshit inner power and unique moves yet.
It's only enough when you max out the meridians
>>3779297Yeah you summed up what I really hated about the expansion. The Fucking new super strong secret leader with a new super secret technique that everybody forgot about until now.
It know it's kind of a big side quest essentially, but playing it really is jarring to the overall story.
>>3781399>forgotRather, nobody really knew about him.
Nanjiang is a different country and most people do not know shit what happens inside there.
They only know of the five immortals sutra cause their princess hitched with Jiang during the Wudang scandal.
Same reason why Kama is not known far and wide, even with his occasional visits, he is from Tibet.
I cheesed the manor tournament with gืกlden cocoon and the storm attack. The monk becoming invincible for one turn with every attack was absurd
>>3781386I say that and then the quests started spitting out tons of manuals as I got closer to Nanjings story. But still I would say they were a bit over flush with exp
>>3781399Also I am not Chinese enough to understand all the fucking poisons
>>3781428I didn't mind kama too much. Overall I liked his story too until the asspull and a half stacking betrayals on betrayals. I did like seeing the mute fucker who was mad strong randomly in tangcheng showing up.
>>3781820I went and grinded a bit after getting my ass whipped the first time too. Managed to beat him with about 2.4k hp on hard getting a lucky evasion/him not punching in the dick hard enough to become a bureau guard
>>3781985As I played more and more Wuxia games, I realized backstabbing is their favorite drama plot device

>>3776675 (OP)It's embarrassing that such a good game has to deal with this post as introducing it to some folks. I apologize on behalf of all gamers for the OPs Faggothood. This is actually a fun game where all weapon builds are viable in some way.
>>3782358Venom based shit, essentially.
who do I give steroid pills to now that my meridans are nearly maxed on mc?
>>3782426Keep giving to Yu. You get more bonus stats when it is maxed.
>>3782358type of poison created by sticking multiple types of poisonous creature in a jar and letting them kill each other.
Holy fucking shit this Gu Siqui fight in the cave when he has the sword is damn near impossible on hard. I think I am supposed to automatically lose it but its also so close I almost feel like I can clinch it but hes got some bullshit
>16k hp
>All meridan abilities seemingly unlocked
>40% of damage is absorbed by mp
>Immune to Qi deprivation abilities
>Everytime you attack him, you get aids slowing you down
>Hes immune to poison back
>He also just deals 300 damage per turn in his aura
>>3782426Maxing out Yan Weiguan and Di Zui as far as their arts and the strongest meridian groups go (conception, penetrating first, then Yin so regardless of equipment they have max qi gathering) helps.
But you should keep feeding most of your steroids to the MC.
Do the Chinese really make these super special pills like this? Is that what Chinese herbs are?
>>3782744powdered tiger penis isn't a meme.
chinese medicine was a huge scam and still goes on. a race of conmen.
>>3782595Nevermind whooped his ass with all the secret relics of the wudang sect. Nothing else I was doing seemed to budge but now Yi is a war crime machine
>>3782930The Wudang trials are another 'fuck you, who could have known' moment. Not just for triggering it.
If you have Yan with you and he has teh triggers, he can also learn cloudform Tai chi and he gets another upgrade during Nanjiang
Doing the Bai fight solo in your first run at harder difficulties is an experience.
>>3782959I think yan picked up on something from me when I walked outside after losing the fight the first time, so he got the fist tai chi move which is nice. I'm still struggling on his second solo fight because he just gets his stats worn the fuck down by poison from the enemies and fist don't have enough solid aoe attacks.
>>3782979I assume you did not get Proud Dragon Repents?
It's one of the strongest fist moves (he learns it and you can learn it from him.
But you need to max his and Lin Weqing (or whatever the staff hobo is called) affection and go to Mt Autumn in the desert region
>>3783026I thought the base game was a better experience compared to how the game is now after the content updates because of all the "guide dang it"s they added.
In the base game there was like two things.
The romance routes, but taking different ones is the main point of replaying the game anyway,
and recruiting Di Zui, but at the time no later events were contingent on doing that, and not recruiting him let you get the only tier 1 polearm in the base game (even though it still sucked compared to crafted gear, it was at least a unique consolation prize). Made it feel more like a choice and less like you were just fucked if you didn't get a specific outcome.
Then the updates happen and there's all this compounding event dependence where doing one thing wrong creates a cascade of shit.
>>3781399>get destroyed by his henchman, actually have to try for the first time since early game>every fight is I fight his goons then something happens then I fight his goons a second time>final encounter is a 1v1 between us where he just falls over and can't do anything>he then kills himself despite me convincing everyone to spare him and getting the medicine to cure him and all his goons also kill themselves too because I didn't do some other bullshit I didn't know about
The entire nanjing arc is massively overtuned. Even with the best possible gear I could get (Even had to consult the online google sheet to find them) I am still reloading and fighting battles 3-4 times before I win them.
>>3783212This also annoys the shit out of me, too many trash fights followed by then fighting same people with no trash
>>3783176There were quite of things that a first time player could fuck up rather easily if they advanced main plot quickly if they did not explore everything constantly (like recruitment windows for guys like Kong, Sima ling, Huo etc some of which ruin Di Zui recruitment before you even do sweetsprings.
Tons of missable arts and cultivation shit too.
>>3783272>Sima lingYou can miss Sima Ling? wtf?
But more the point was: If you missed a character, what you miss is the character.
It didn't screw up your options in later unrelated quest lines
>>3783287Not having the special Olympics athlete hurts. So much stuff was missed because I forgot about his quest because it was absurdly difficult for where I was at initially
>>3783287If you do not have certain characters, Echoes variant of the endgame snowballs to even more deaths.
Or for Nanjiang, without Sima, Hong misses powerups etc.
>>3783295Wheelchair detective is based
>>3783298Yes, that's my point.
Base game didn't lock you in bad routes in later story content because you missed a dude. That was added in the expansions.
>>3783306I had no idea what was going on with the ending of the game because apparently I skipped all the stuff that explained it somehow.
>big villain whose whole motivation was to kill you because you knew a legendary skill that he also knew dies offscreen for some reason>his son challenges me to a duel and dies pathetically for no reason>then I kill my uncle who happens to be the leader of an enemy nation the end
>>3783311The first two are explained better in the vanilla route.
The second needs you to have paid attention during Wheelchair man's quests
>>3783311>big villain whose whole motivation was to kill you because you knew a legendary skill that he also knew dies offscreen for some reasonIs it possible to skip the retelling of what happened 20 years ago on Mount Tianshan?
paraphrase After the one dude to master the Wind and Cloud Method, Mowen's dad, handily beats every Central Plains sect master, people start coveting the manual.
The leader of Villain Valley and Mowen's dad fight it out on the top of a mountain and knock each other off the cliff, presumably falling to their deaths.
With no one else at the sect able to defend it, the Villain Valley thugs start ransacking it.
Allied force of Wudang, Beggers, and Shaolin show up. Villain Valley dude holds Mowen's mom at knifepoint. She has Mowen and the manual in her arms.
The allied sect leaders attack instead of deescalating. Mowen's mom ends up dead and the manual is ripped in three pieces.
Leader of Wudang at the time orders the death of any survivors of the local sect, claiming they are Villain Valley members disguised so they could infiltrate, but really he just doesn't want word getting out that they fucked up.
Turns out Mowen's dad survived the fall.
And in the original route, he dies off screen from the venom from Xiaotong's super special uber poison golden snake.
Which bit him on screen, so it was kinda hard to miss in that route.
>>3783318yes but you personally have nothing to do with any of that
I understand the grudge I just think it's silly
and I know he died to poison but I also thought it was silly particularly when you say "yep that guy died in our last battle" then 30 minutes later I see a scene with him very much alive
and of course that was the whole plot of the game that basically gets resolved with no fanfare
>>3783318Slight correction to the lore:
He is not fighting against Wumin, the leader of the villain valley. It;'s the leader of the Tianji Palace, the strongest cult to have existed. To stop the fighting, orthodox and cult sects decided on the 1v1.
Even with Wind and Cloud method at 4/5th done, he outclasses everybody else and beats the leader of the Palace. Wumin swoops in and takes his wife hostage, leader of Wudang tries to go all in 'aim for the hostage' to claim the method. Beggar leader gives in to temptation and Shaolin leader follows too. He kills Wumin and tries to find a good opportunity to kill them and reclaim the method pieces . He taught Tianlong a bootleg version to get the ones who had pieces to show themselves for sure. Jiang from tutorial village knows what went on and is pissed, while your Shifu and current leader of Wudang does not dare to say anything.
Then you have a different set of drama with the princess of Nanjiang eloping with Jiang who has a part of the wind and cloud method that Wudan kept which causes all the Xiaotong chase and your MC getting involved in the larger affairs.
It is a bit convolouted and a lot of the info is presented with very big gaps
>>3783339Yeah, sorry. For some reason I had it in my head that the Emperor of China personally showed up, in his singular appearance in the martial world, to beat the leader of Tianji Palace
Which would mean that Mowen's dad must have fought someone else.
But I guess that's misremembering.
traditional chinese medicine requires the genocide of frogs, bears, and tigers. You get some vendors that sell the first two later on in the story but what about tiger bones and "whips" ?
>>3783552It's even funnier in Tale of Wuxia where you consume Tiger whips and Snake galls raw for HP and MP boost , not even doing the drugs
>>3783559Consuming raw snake gallbladders or drinking their blood is a wuxia tradition, even better if they are brought to you by a giant bird.
I hate hate hate hate the nanjing arc. Every fight for story progression takes 10 fucking attempts because how outstandingly broken your boss like enemies are.
>>3783582It's why I suggest people do not do it in their first run.
Not just for lack of NG+ holdovers, but also not being aware of the shit you can get before that.
>>3783561traditional chinese follow the 40k space marine method. Eat your enemy until you're stronger.
>>3783599It's crazy how overtuned it is, I didn't have any problems with the other areas like this where I have to get every single last bit of juice on a first game hard.
>>3783604I didn't struggle with it because the game warns you it's hard so I went after I got cloudform tai chi.
No I didn't read any guides or know anything other than from me playing the game.
>>3783617I got cloudform tai chi and maxed level weapons and armor as best I could and even then on bossfights on hard I played them atleast 5-6 times before I finally made it through it from all their self-healing, immunities to status effects, and qi gathering speed

>>3784234It's even funnier in retrospect if you consider how unlocking the final step for Wind and Cloud method happens in most routes in the Vanilla path
>>3784236I'm so lost on the story it's okay, just watching people people pull up and job to me after spending forever in the jungle trying to win fights.
Is there like an alignment chart for the various factions? Really hard to keep track of who is good and bad and self serving etc.
>>3784883>goodfaceless
>neutralall the small stations
>evilgangsters and big government/corps
>>3784883Assume everyone is self serving or has tons of bad apples except somewhat sorta the shaolin
having a 100k start bonus is getting me into a false sense of security on extreme. Absolutely fucking up everything I see at the moment. Feel like I should have turned on a whole bunch of extra shit.
>>3784982Money is one of the weaker starting bonuses honestly, but it can let you get started on the crafting quickly
>>3784982Was talking about total points. When Mora - Xuanao fisting techniques and some other stuff. 3k meridans and 20k martial points. Just stomping through game at the moment. Probably could maybe go challenge some of the weaker masters even.
Well, it's officially out
>>3785189YEAH!
YEAH!
FUCK YEAH! Let's all get Fucking Hyped and elated and pretend fist bump each other! The developers are really coming through for us right now and you Cats better get with it!
This Fucking game is helping redefine RPGs and is taking the 2DHD RPGs to the next Fucking level! We are all absolutely ecstatic and stoked!
Tomorrow since it is the end of the work week, I am going to cook a nice dinner, a couple of gourmet Filet Mignon steaks to perfect medium rare, some Potatoes Lyonnaise, and Balsamic Roasted Baby Carrots. I will sit down at my computer and enjoy a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon from the Bordeaux region of France that I have been saving for this occasion, deep garnet in color with a profound earthy nose, notes of black cherry, ripe (not baked) plum, and subtle licorice. I will build a cozy fire in our wood burning fireplace to stay comfy and warm and set the tone. Then I will being playing this Fucking expansion and really enjoying this game all over again with a new build I have specifically been saving up for this Fucking occasion!
What are everyone else's plans for the release?
Not sure how I feel about fans. They count as fist weapons and give you a fuckton of AOE early game that fists usually lacked. Granted that only matters on a first game
>>3787097Yeah, I can't comment on fresh game balance when I bring Proud Dragon Repents in a new game plus
>>3787097the story gives you like 4 legendary swords
I don't know how you would avoid using them
>>3787110It also gives you retarded Tai Chi bullshit that works with fists too. You can spread the swords to all the sword companions
>>3787097Not sure how I feel about another main waifu inserted midway.
I hope Xue and Yao Ji do not mind
>>3787110>>3787118>>3787106Sabers still suck to use, which is boring. I don't even recall many unique sabers until the literal last second in the story.
>>3787147Sabers in a normal runs are the 2nd or 3d best cause of the martial arts you get, with some good ones to steal from companions to for mid to endgame.
Only Swords get consistently top tier equipment handed to them and easier shit to learn from companions.
Much betetr state than polearms and hidden weapons. If you bring in new game plus or legacies, they are still great cause they have the 2nd best legacy
>>3776675 (OP)>wandering around>find cliff>jump off cliff, THE END>ah fuck, might as well see what do these points really do anyways>got enough points to start with a T1 sword on a new cycle and not much else>aw shit nigga now we're fucking cooking>slap that shit to Extreme since I just unlocked it, hit all the white difficulty mods for good measure>fast forward about two dozen hours, getting walled by black and white gate niggas so want to hit NG+>cliff didn't work since I kept surviving the fall>think about what it said the first time I died, remove all of my lightness shit>successfully an hero this time>NG+2 now with nearly 100k pointsGotta say, I love having a full set of T1 gear and a fuckton of Meridian points to start with this time, already capped out a few qi chunks and grinded the nigger at the start for a bit for his manuals and skills, although the 90 affection skill is still out of reach due to not having a high enough rarity gift to give to him that isn't my T1 sword. Dunno why only like 7% of people slapped all of those white difficulty mods on though, they're almost all exceptionally valuable QoL or buffs in general and most of the downsides aren't too bad to handle on top of giving out a metric fuckton of points. Probably going to go for cultivation manuals next time I do a flip since Meridian points are so fucking valuable for everyone, though that probably won't be for a while, and I get the feeling your points only increase based off of your best point total instead of them being cumulative so might as well wait for a bit.
Well worth the 30ish bucks so far, almost makes me think of Elona: chink JRPG edition.
Public service announcement for the new Eastern Sea DLC
After Sima Ling tells you to go talk to the leader of Qingmu, you can fuck up and lose the ability to trigger the event where she gives you a quest item if you talk to certain other NPCs first.
I talked to Yuan Jue, who had some unique (but not particularly enlightening) dialogue and that locked me out. Luckily I only lost like 30 mins of play thanks to auto-saves
So don't do that.
>>3787833I just started a new game + with one of the legacys from beating the story along with some other stuff. Game is exceptionally easy so far, though my party members will get slapped once they have to solo fight probably.
>>3787156I never really found sima ling to really do all that much for me, very underwhelemed in general by sabers. That will be my next super extreme run. Finishing this extreme one now to unlock shit I missed the first time
>>3776675 (OP)I dropped this game 30 hours in was very late in the game. The game turns into a auto battler after a certain point gameplay felt boring and pointless. Who cares about being getting op yi has no rivals its not gamey enough.
>>3787965The game definitely has some hard moments if you're not grinding everything. The Liuja village or whatever attack was quite hard. Nanjing was miserable even on just hard on a first game
>>3783311Did he want to kill you? I was so confused when he seemed more wanting to help you master the method in the cave and then comes to your aid.. after killing your first master
The Hero's Adventure crossover DLC does that thing that I got annoyed by in another Chinese made game I played. It includes sidequests that are just doing a high schooler's homework.
Xuan Yuan Sword III had basic algebra problems and now Wandering Sword has Chinese literature quizzes
>>3789328Doesn't it let you retry constantly from the last question?
Ended up being a digest of Sun Tzu than a quest/minigame
Legitimately what the fuck were they thinking with the balance in extreme mode?
>>3789339>what the fuck were they thinking with the balance in unfair/impossible/insanity/no future/apocalypse modeThey weren't.
>Jade weapons that suck ass but become super busted if you have this inner art
Trivializing the need for weapons till you hit Nanjiang.
>>3789339It's seemed decently challenging so far, but I'm not against mugging everyone on the surface of the planet for their skills and items so maybe that's why it doesn't seem too bad to me.
>>3789430It's not too bad early on if you aren't trying to win the early trip to Nanjiang fights as soon as they're available, but it becomes utterly retarded once you go west and deal with Kama's quest and then head to Najiang again for the last third of the original story. Any time you're in a fight with NPCs you haven't been able to raise the stats of yet they just get immediately slaughtered.
>>3789435Self reflect to covnert martial points to manuals was good for that I turned Gu sigui who was recruited nearly immediately into like a dozen manuals
>3x3 magic square slider puzzle on Turtle Island
Man, I never fucked with magic squares even back in school, now they expect me to do a shitty slider puzzle while solving it too?
>>3790110>option to skip puzzle existsIt's really tempting, but I get the feeling I'll miss out on rewards if I take it though. Maybe I'm just a brainlet, but man I hate this shit.
>>3790110>>3790119If it helps, the position I maned to get it open with was 294 top row and 276 left column
>>3790128I already said fuck it and used the skip option, unless there's more rewards for completing it normally I'm not gonna bother.
>>3790136If you got a key and a scroll, then there is nothing else.
More important is to get the missable chest in Immortal island at night. You have like a couple chances to grab it
>>3790143I'll keep a look out, I'm on my second NG+ already and finding more chests during the tourney shit got my ass compulsively scouring maps even more than I already was.
>>3790154Did you know that you can open the same chest in the tourney 3 times, at the different times of day and it will have different contents? Found that out in like the 4th run
>>3790158Yeah, found that out during the tourney and reloaded back to the start of it just to make sure I didn't miss anything. What I wouldn't give for no easily missable shit, or at least a day/night cycle for chests like those.
>>3789435Nanjing is full of bullshit fights and needing certain party members to be strong but not always giving consistent clues they're about to get their ass whipped
Little disappointed in the 8 Penglai relics.
The 3 item set effect on the male only armor is really good, and the accessories are usable too, but the sets are held back by how bad the weapons are on account of only being tier IV, and by characters being limited by what weapon types they can equip.
If you want a full set, your options are:
A bad sword
A bad polearm that *really* can't compete with the nearby Kubone Fishing Rod
And a fan with the saving grace of debuff immunity, but why wouldn't you just use the Legacy fan from the main quest? Heck, why is this relic weaker damage wise than the fan that Bu Weiyue comes equipped with when you recruit her?
>>3790761It's kinda weird too since by just slapping the Jade method, you can give them cheap ass jade weapons to outperform most shit till you are about to start Nanjiang.
I definitely thought Lingbo would look more heroic and less cutesy
>>3790847It's to contrast with Qingyin looking like a man
I started with martial points + meridans. Which companions should I be feeding pills to on extreme for hard battles without yi?
>>3790929Yan Weihuan.
Give him pills to max the meridians too.
>>3791016Can his penis meridan support all the inflation?
>start game
>early quest requires you to kill a king boar
>boars are much stronger than you
it's hero's adventure all over again BWAH!
>>3776675 (OP)Is this game long and jank
>>3791507It can be a 50+ hour affair. Most things work as intended, but balance can get out fo whack.
>>3791302Yeah your early game is extremely pathetic on a first game
>>3791507Yeah you either cheese the early game using the red lady to farm gear you shouldn't be able to or trudge through it. Also really confusing quest timing shit with the dlc's they released, you can easily miss them since they dont warn you at all at what point the quests vanish or if doing one blocks another. Very generic wuxia story
>>3791507>Is this game long and jankYes, and sorta jank but not anything even remotely close to classic eurojank shit.
>>3791566Part of the fun is definitely getting your ass whipped and missing shit. I definitely felt the pain trying to figure out how to beat Chen in the fight club to collect friends.
>>3791566>since they dont warn you at all at what point the quests vanish or if doing one blocks another. They actually do warn you if you have an active quest that can be missed and try to go to Mount Windless during the main story
Optimal quest progression after all 4 updates is still super stupid though, you're right about that.
>lol, we directed you towards this quest chain but what you should REALLY do is only some random percentage of the events, then leave and progress the main plot for 10 hours until you can recruit wheelchair genius and flippant layabout genius and THEN come back to finish the quest.
>>3791751>lol, we directed you towards this quest chain but what you should REALLY do is only some random percentage of the events, then leave and progress the main plot for 10 hours until you can recruit wheelchair genius and flippant layabout genius and THEN come back to finish the quest. What quest is this?
>>3791711I'm the kinda guy that hates loading a hours back but if I miss a sidequest I will do it and considering this game is both badly documented and arbitrary as fuck with a lot of timers ( specially considering the new dlc ) it has been one of the more frustraiting games I played in a while. I picked it up on a whim because I've been reading a lot of xianxia novels and damn what a frustraiting experience it's been. Not bad though just specifically annoying for my preferences.
>>3791756It happens TWICE
You can get the Pili School invite immediately after doing the golden scorpion, which is now one of the first things you can do after joining Wudang. However don't actually go to Pili School until you recruit the dudes
AND if you have the Eastern Sea DLC, you can start that at the same time you're doing the casino quest in Pingkang City for the main story.
But once again, don't progress the Eastern Sea primary quest chain past setting foot on the main island for the first time, until you get the dudes. (and remember to say hello to the head coast guard at Immortal's Crossing once you do get the dudes)
It technically happens a third time with needing Frosty Condor for the Silk Feast plot in the crossover DLC, but at least her recruitment happens in the same section of the game as that quest and not 10 hours later.
>>3791756Also with the release of the crossover dlc you can miss it entirely if you recruit the Lu girl through the old method, why they didn't remove the old recruitment method? No idea it's still part of the new content but you can just miss the entirety of the dlc if you go and recruit her not knowing this
>>3791769>already did the Pili school shit and the sea DLCShit. Can you tell me what exactly I'd be missing out on here without them?
>>3791770Why did they even make it a DLC that you have to opt into instead of just another content updates like Southern Chronicle/Echoes of Dust and Ash?
even just calling it "the crossover DLC" is kind of doing it injustice because the 2nd half is actually really important with events concerning what the Empress is up to, and Xuanhuo cult infighting
>>3791773for Eastern Sea you miss some rewards from beating the pirates, and you miss the ambergris pouch because you didn't do the black market quest, which means you miss repairing one of the 8 relics for the dude on Mist Island, which means you miss a 9 regions scroll for not repairing them all, which means you miss an op cultivation method.
I forget what the ramifications for not having them for Pili School are.
>>3791782Yeah doesn't really make any sense. The sea's stuff sure whatever its an entire new area of the world map a new character and a good chunk of stuff with the patch but the crossover stuff + companion quest shit is baffling.
>>3791782>for Eastern Sea you miss some rewards from beating the pirates,Anything important like manuals or something? I can live without cash, gear, or even meridian pills since I literally just found a fag that drops a 100 pill consistently.
> and you miss the ambergris pouch If you need just the one, you can get it from buying one of all the three spices from the merchant at the port I think.
Completely forgot about the nigger on Mist Island though, I'll have to circle back to him at some point. I've got 7 of the 9 scrolls now though, hope I didn't miss one somewhere.
>>3791788Oh, if you can trigger the Immortal's Crossing merchants giving info/bonus items even without the quest active, then that's good I guess.
Even if that's kinda weird

>>3791788>manuals or something?Did you get Vengeance of Scorching Star?
>>3791809Yeah. I'm missing the full Astral Shrine Method however.
>>3791816You can't upgrade that to 10. There's no manual and the two people who learn it via the primary quest refuse to master it because it's evil (like a tiny net)
Oh, did you get this normal move tho? I think this one comes directly from the black market quest
>>3791821Doesn't seem like I did. Luckily it doesn't look too good, but it really makes me even more paranoid about missing something due to arcane bullshit.
>>3791829If you want a hint for "arcane bullshit":
Several locations nighttime map is a different location from their daytime map, and not just the same place with different lighting.
Because of this, a bunch of nighttime locations have different treasure chests than their daytime equivalent.
These are missable and sometimes contain manuals
>>3791782You technically still have to opt to for Souther Chronicles (and in extension for Echoes of Dust).
Doing the legacy route is good for a first run
It's so annoying that I have like a total of 5 items locked in the new game + menu.
One is the manual you get from one of the nighttime chest mentioned above.
I will do an easy mode run for them eventually
I should have realized before using a manual fragment that I could just use it on a party member instead and then consult for it. Oh well, lesson for the future I suppose.
>>3791769>>3791782Yeah I like the DLC but it honestly fucks up the game balance badly of the main storyline. I really like a lot of aspects of this game, but balance is definitely its glaring weak point.
>>3792124Yeah, the only semblance of balance is a fresh run above normal where even if you get all the shit, you do not get that many martial points and things can be costly ,so it gets harder to craft and punch above your weight with sparring. Newcomers will also not realize some of the more common exploits as well
But each dlc tears that down a bit and any kind of a new run, no matter the new game plus inheritance, kills it.
The only challenge left is extreme runs with all 8 checked in plus a few modifiers.
Does anyone know if accepting bu wey's confession changes the ending?
>>3792142Just an extra ending slide
I "no way, fag"ed Bu Weiyue and I'm about to "no way, fag" Yao Ji, but then I noticed the decision doesn't have any red warning label on it, so does it not actually effect your ending?
It would be really weird if this doesn't lock you into the Yao Ji route.
>>3792503It probably excludes her romance version for slides/ending since doing the Silk Feats likely maxes out affection bar regardless
I cannot find this Biejiao Wanshui for repairing the relic basket for the fucking life of me.
>>3794357If you do not want to progress the plot quite firther along to nanjian and endgame were you get all this shit, you can go the mirage lake (next to Liao city) , make a save and fight the swordsman elite over and over again till he drops it.
He can drop almost every rare loot.
If you are playing on extreme with the modifier that makes them always drop loot, it will not take long.
If you do not, I hope you are a lucky guy
>>3794361I was considering that, but I wasn't sure if it was some plot related bullshit and didn't want to waste my time grinding him out if he wasn't going to drop it. Guess I'll slot some time in as soon as I'm out of not!Vietnam then.
Wew, I think this is the first fight in the game that's actually made me stop and really think while doing it. Thank god I stopped and decked out my party members before coming to this hellhole, I'd have been fucked.
>apparently missed a venomous immortal because I thought it was just a regular spider and ran past it the first time
>cave magically despawns the thing on the return visit too
Hope that wasn't too important to miss, at least I got the other fucker from the swamp.
Can i become a demonic cultivator? Read reverend insanity and now i want to refine children into gu.
>>3794706No, this is a goody good story/
>7/8 immortal artifacts
Fuck, hope I didn't miss it for good. Finding all of these is a pain in the ass.
>>3794864The only missable thing is one of the scrolls (nighttime on immortal island next to rest house)
>>3794887Found the one I was missing after giving up and finally looking for some guides on it. Turns out there's a fucking invisible path through the water on the left side of Sunset Island with the chest on it.
>>3794901Go sail by Sunset Island and look at it on the world map.
>>3794904Nice to see, but that's absolutely not intuitive at all.
>>3794912To be fair, when you do the main quest that mentions the scrolls, it mentions there is one on every island,
Only night one is bullshit
can i like this game if i dont really give a shit about wuxia? i think martial arts is cool and all but i havent delved much into wuxia aside from watching ssseth videos on amazing cultivation simulator and shit. but i do like JRPGs with a lot of customization and shit to do
>>3795821If you can tolerate the occasional philosophical martial arts waxing poetic bullshit and how they open their dantian so the meridians can flow, it is an enjoyable JRPG , I think.
Even with half the companions not featuring much and the weird requirements to get shit to even happen(the game really wants you to replay it once or twice, but guides exist on steam for whatever you need)
>>3795825i'm okay replaying games as long as they're fun/interesting, i'm already chewing through getting all the endings in Hundred Line. i think it would be cool to learn more about because it does seem like a lot of wuxia games are hidden gems. i'll pick it up i think, thanks anon
>>3795821>i havent delved much into wuxia aside from watching ssseth videos on amazing cultivation simulatorthat's xianxia not wuxia, you retarded e-celeb following secondary
>>3796047>and shithe also played a wuxia game dumbfuck, read the entire post before you reply to it you philistine.
>>3796047the steel factory calls your name, li smalpeen
>>3794357After the newest patch, the pirate flagship north of Immortalโs Island is guaranteed to drop at least one high-tier flower ingredient. Itโs a much easier grind than savescumming the Mirage Waters swordsman over and over.
