>Wanted to play Final Fantasy VII as a kid
>Couldn't get it on PC, somehow (wasn't on offer from the shady guy on the corner who sent pirated CDs to childrens)
>Instead, I got via a gaming magazine's "cover game" the "we have Final Fantasy VII at home" version of Final Fantasy VII at least that's what everyone agreed on
>Many years later, I finally get to play Final Fantasy VII
>I liked Septerra way more, and I replayed it afterwards too and still liked it more than FF7

I just wish this brand of sci-fantasy was more prevalent these days

we're all allowed to have our opinions and such, but SC's version of ATB is an absolutely slow, boring slog for like 75% of the game.

For me, it's basically Final Fantasy in general.
>play every single "must play classic FF game"
>it's banal / shit / boring

All I remember about this game is that ot had a crazy encounter rate, that you could use cards to summon spells and that the robot dog had a laser attack that fucked up every enemy on the screen.

Oblivion... Oblivion LITERALLY CHANGED MY LIFE
I remember the massive hype train before it released. I can still vividly imagine how Pete Hines grimaced/smiled at reviewers, as was described in detail in a German gaming magazine which gushed over "and all the racism is CUSTOMIZED, can you believe that?" part in the prison. I was so hyped, couldn't wait to play it. Then I played it, and immediately, within the 1st hour, it didn't quite hit as it should. I kept playing and pretending to myself that I was having fun but I wasn't.

And then because of that I eventually found RPG Codex, and now my taste in RPGs is better than anyone else on /vrpg/, easy.

I have an eye on Eden’s Zero. I haven’t read the manga but hear it’s popular, must be doing well for Konami to release a game when there isn’t even an Animu.

Normal consequences of budget running out and being forced to work with a limited map editor.

Septerra Core should get a remake that takes the universe + plot structure and then delivers on what they actually wanted to do in the design document. It wasn't combat and lever pulling that's for sure.

I don't think it was that popular, since sci-fi isn't exactly a beloved genre in Japan. The author picked it for the challenge, since it was outside his comfort zone.
I say "was" because the manga ended last year after a six-year run, and the anime had two seasons that came and went, with no official announcement of a third (I think the plans are there but nothing has been greenlit).

As someone who's read it, I say try the game (since it starts at chapter 1) and then read the manga or watch the anime from the start. I recommend the manga.

This was the last straw in me having hopes for kickstarted RPGs. Pillars of Eternity was basically a success in comparison, and Torment Nu-man Era still looked just like an unlucky fluke.

My friend gave me a copy of septerracore he found at a second hand store. I left it in my backseat and my car got stolen.

Bloodlines 2 is a masterpiece in ruining everything. I expected it to be finished______________ now I don't expect anything, much less it being good, after they Me Too'd Brian Mitsoda.
