Anybody here play RPGs over the age of 40? It feels like I can be everyones dad and all the characters are incredibly immature. Most of them are like 15 year old boys with spiky hair. The women are often dressed ridiculously innapropriate as well, and none of this is ever addressed in-game.

41 here. Playing suikoden remastered. Back to the past. I still play them but got to say that I like the older rpgs more than modern bullahit.

I think this is where the wrpg steps in over the jarpig. The Japanese love a coming of age story and a cast of teens. There’s some exceptions to the rule like Yakuza (if they count in your definition of rpg) Vagrant Story, Lost Odyssey. There’s some good lists on r*ddit for this topic as I’ve searched this topic before but yeah, especially if you’re going modern, you’re gonna get lumped with wailing teens, same shit in anime too.

Hmm Baldur's Gate your character is Gorion's Ward, a "child". Maybe the more defined a PC is, the more it slants toward being a young adult. Although Fallout 4 starts you out as a proper family man.

Yeah JRPGs may have more defined and younger characters.

If you were really over 40 you'd already be accustomed to this.

Weirdly, Octopath is pretty good about this. Most of the characters are at least 20, and everyone but the requisite girl on her coming of age journey character acts like an adult.

Admittedly, not even Osvald gets over 40. But he's pretty close.

41 here also, and my peeve is games with highschool settings. i finished that shit over 2 decades ago, and I'd like a main cast that I can relate a bit more to. characters with jobs, with life commitments; characters that go to the bar and have a drink with their buddies.

I like wrpgs too, but a lot of them have unlikeable casts in other ways. I'm not a fan of silent leads, or characters like Geralt who are snooty dicks most of the time.

This is going to sound absolutely retarded (and it probably is), but i enjoyed playing Fallout 4 because i could easily get into the role (i'm a dad myself) and I would prefer to play the Rance series over most other jrpgs. Rance is a bro.

adventure is a timeless experience! bilbo and frodo were in their 50s when they left for their first adventures! Recently, I played FF5 and Galuf is 60 when they start their journey. Most of the FF7 characters are in their 30s. Age is meaningless until your start dating zoomer sugar babies and have to start taking viagra and by then you’ll be happy you played so many shitty persona dating sims.

It's a crime how Microsoft mishandled mist walker and left there games to rot in irrelevance as 360 exclusives. Not even a fucking steam port.

It's true, he has at least 6 male friends. I could be the 7th.
