I understand that this allows for moments where the character gets lost after being teleported why can't get a cartography system like EO and also let you pin your marker whenever you get lost.

What are some good map-making rpgs? I have a whole grid note-book and markers I bought recently specifically TO make maps, but I only used them on Metroid other things like that.
I thought I might need one for Phantasy Star, but I managed to get through nearly the entire game just hugging the left wall of every dungeon.
The SNES version of Megami Tensei auto-mapped for me.
Not sure of any others to try. I guess just all the way back to Wizardry. Map-making is fun though and when you beat the game you have a fun little prize that you can reuse on repeat playthroughs.

Yeah, Wizardry is definitely a matter of personal choice right now or maybe you just want to challenge yourself by not using auto-mapping in some DRPGs. Just be careful when drawing your own maps using stairs as reference points between floors sometimes they donโ€™t align perfectly. For example, in Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, the stairs going down from floor 1 are at (10,0), while the stairs going up to floor 1 from floor 2 are at (7,12). You should just use the elevator as your reference point instead.

Games are a interactive medium. Force a mechanic that takes you out of said interaction.
Brilliant.
Use Grid cartopher/gridmonger.

Forcing you to interact with something physical and tangible actually helps make the game world feel more real though, like it's crossed over to the real world and isn't just limited to the computer. Sounds like you just don't get it.

I was told the NES version had bugs that would fairly consistently crash the game and the SNES one is great.

I'll try to remember that. My biggest problem is knowing where to START drawing on the page.

If you want realism why not force the player to do most of the calculations outside the game?
Paper Mapping does not make anything "real", it is just a annoyance.

I'm old and never made maps, just memorized the layout through brute force. It's funny too, because I had graph paper and used to design dungeons for fun and to use in playing D&D all the time.

I was able to instantly tell that's floor 1 of Wizardry 1, nice. I recently played through several Wizardry games and it's a series that holds up remarkably well. Drawing your own maps is also very fun and makes you feel like you're exploring some uncharted territory, even if it's factually not uncharted territory.

I played EO1 first and realized how much I like drawing maps, and did it when I played Wiz games too and it's like, damn this should be way more common in games now.
>>3780411
Get some graph paper, it'll be fine.

Childhood is wanting the game to do everything for you so you.
Adulthood is realizing the fun part is doing everything yourself.
