The creators said the Persona games 3 and after were designed to be easily understandable and relatable to Japanese high schoolers and younger because the regular SMT games weren't selling.

With the exception of Catherine, most of these games are devoid of depth. Although a certain level of depth is buried away in symbols and gestures.
