Looking through my backlog of games in my steam and noticed last time i played this game was back in 2016.
Anything i should know b4 replaying this game again?
Few things I remember hating from my last playthrough was the god awful maze of sewers to get to talk to the nosferatu clan leader as well as getting insta killed by the werewolf on the observatory telescope map.

also curious why no one made more world of darkness shit into vidya rpgs.

If you still have an old version of the unofficial patch, use that rather than a new one. New versions change shit for no reason.

There's a skip for the sewers. You can kill the Werewolf by reactivating the observatory power, and squishing it between the doors for the telescope.

>why no one made more world of darkness shit into vidya rpgs.

There isn't much of an incentive. You're much better off making your own urban fantasy game in-house as developer, and the current IP holder is forcing devs to use their awful newest edition as a basis.

Sadly, Bloodlines, being a Vampire adaptation, has attracted the craziest, most deranged mentally ill idiots to its modding scene. They are in a civil war of sorts between a turboautistic sociopath who insists on bringing back EVERY. LITTLE. THING left in the cutting room floor because it's "meant to be there" according to him and an absolutelly deranged tranny with a huge case of delirium tremens who feels xe is a part of some cult or something. This means there is currently no purelly vanilla option to mod this game in a way that you can still experience it without their obnoxious stupidity. The maze isn't that bad in my experience and the werewolf bit, iirc, is lore friendly in the way that you're not supposed to just 1v1 a creature of that kind.

The sewer being hard is another Youtoober talking point, same as "Guns are bad until the end of the game" and "Nosferatu and Malkavian are bad for a first playthrough." Pretty big signs you're talking to somebody that hasn't actually played the game much. I think the sewer took me maybe 20 minutes tops and that's for the first playthrough.

I have a patch that mixes the True and Unofficial patches together, so it actually stays vanilla but is more up to date with technical fixes. I played VtMB a lot before any fan patches became common and this is the closest way to have vanilla VtMB but working properly on a modern system. Even the Standard Mod Patch which claimed to undo extra changes by the Unofficial Patch started adding in its own random changes.

I think you can "de-patch" the gog version, so that should help. What do you think of pre-v10 Unofficial Patch? That's what I usually use. I believe there's also some other patch that speedrun trannies use to get that true puritan experience. There's also the True Patch for the truly mentally deranged. If you wanna work on your own patch that's cool, but you're entering a saturated, low-demand environment.

if you start with a high firearms skill even the revolver is alright until you can get the shotgun. the shotgun is decent as long as you can handle getting close too and can mostly hold you over until hollywood when you get the good stuff.

Not as much pretentious feature bloat as Final Nights, it's mostly beloved by edgelords for adding a Sabbath path. It mostly adds new quests with questionable quality voice acting and writing (it's unbearable for me but hey give it a try).
>>3785272
The shotgun is not bad either, especially since most of the early game minibosses can just be easily kited around. In my experience, ignoring guns entirely makes Bishop Vick a lot tougher and having to save content for later because it's too hard makes me feel like a bitch.

I tested it again for a few minutes in the GOG version and it seemed to work okay. I don't remember what the problem was before but looks alright now. No guarantees though.

I see a lot of people saying the older versions are better for the Unofficial Patch. Might matter more for plus than basic. And yeah I think one speedrunner put out a version that leaves in all the bugs and stuff from the original release.

This was more of a personal thing I did just to use myself and only shared it after seeing people complaining about not being able to play vanilla. I posted it once or twice and then saw people talking about it months later so there might be a little demand for it. The True Patch is outdated and I didn't like all the extra stuff in the Unofficial Patch for basic when I wanted to play vanilla, and neither creator wanted to fix the problems. So I just took what I wanted from each patch for myself.

They fell for it. They think Jack is actually helping them out of the kindness of his own heart when in fact he is playing them harder than anyone else in the game.

Granted, there is an argument that Nines objectively saves your ass from the Sabbat, and it's quite possible LaCroix wouldn't have decided to spare you if Nines didn't have his spergout in the theater. It's fair to want to pay him back for doing you that solid. Nines seems decently high humanity, but he does lose his cool if you disagree with him too much and in the independent ending he comes off as little better than anyone else, trying to get you to join his little club to the very last.

Yup. And Nines saves you out of principle, not compassion. The new prince arrives, makes a pompous show and wants to establish his authority by making an example of you and your Sire. So Nines relishes the opportunity to challenge his authority right away. Even if he likes you, you're just a Neonite and everyone is trying to use you.

I went at it with Fortitude + Bloodbuff initially before letting the timer run low enough for me to proc Frenzy. Also I don't have the gargoyle amulet since I didn't level Persuasion past the bonus you get from Scholarship.

You'll probably want the latest Unofficial Patch (basic)
Sewers are easier to navigate if you mark explored corridors by dropping an item
Stealth is broken and OP as fuck, don't waste skill points on it
Guns are weak, but doable if you're determined
Malkavian and Nosferatu are good for a 2nd playthrough since they offer a different experience
Tremere and Nosferatu can get unique havens based on whom they side with

Other than that, just learn to love the jank and enjoy the game

they're also good for a first playthrough (for some people). i played malk first and it was great, replaying it was great too but not like that first playthrough which was still really unique. some posters have said they enjoyed nosferatu first as well. it might not be for everyone but saying they should only be done on a second playthrough is probably the most wrong thing anyone has ever said ever.

I think stealth skill is mediocre but its not a wasted investment. Just popping a Bloodbuff alone gives a notable improvement to your stealth capabilities. I'd only level it past 2 if I was running a pacifist vampire without Obfuscate though. Maybe a Nosferatu if I want to save blood points.

Guns are only "weak" in Santa Monica and arguably Downtown. They pick up steam really fast once you get access to the Colt Anaconda and SPAS-15.

if you start with high firearms even the first revolver isn't too bad for what you encounter, and you get the shotgun in santa monica which is good if you can manage the spread

colt and spas are definitely my favorites though, using them on full auto is satisfying. i think the unofficial patch might change it but the lassiter killmatic does the most damage and you can get it in chinatown.

Eh, maybe. Problem with the shitty purse pistol is that it does incredibly low DPS while also needing to reload a lot. You're better off murdering a cop for their Brokk right out the gate imo.
>and you get the shotgun in santa monica which is good if you can manage the spread
I like the shotgun, yeah. Really good for dealing with corner chokes.

i wish the ranged stat increased your reloading speed too, i looked into modding that but apparently it's not possible

>Thoughts on the Steyr Aug? The recoil is surprisingly not that bad when zoomed in.
i like using it once i get my ranged stat high enough to minimize the sway, it works well using it almost like a low damage full auto sniper rifle. i didn't realize it at first at least in vanilla that it does less damage than the lassiter killmatic. i think the unofficial patch switched their damage values to make the aug do more damage in some version, i don't know if it's still like that but how useful it as after that might depend on what version you're playing.

Hard disagree with this. It's designed very stringently around a 4-act structure with 4 main hubs to traverse, and only Chinatown is when the cracks begin to show. There's actually some pretty fun side-quests here (albeit a bit too easy for what it is save for one), but the main problem is that you have literally zero incentive to explore since the game is putting you on "borrowed time" at this point with story beat after story beat being thrown your way.
>mechanically awkward game?
This is quite true. I actually think the combat is decently okay when you get used to it though. It's only stealth that is truly and utterly terrible. Implementation of humanity could have been much better handled too.
>Bloodlines is loved despite it being a vidya RPG, not because of it.

Sabbat are very two-faced about the Masquerade. They like to mock the Camarilla for adhering to it, but also practice the "silence of the blood", which is like the Masquerade but you just have to kill any mortals that see you do vampire shit, rather than use general discretion. In fact, they only go out of their way to break the masquerade when they know the Camarilla is nearby to cover it up, to resource tax their foe. The smart Sabbat members know that they can't reveal themselves when they don't even rule the Kindred world.

I've been asking myself something for a long time.
How hard would it be to give VtMB a spiritual successor?
What are the essential elements you would need to retain? What could you change, replace, improve or leave out?
Mechanically speaking, VtMB isn't much special, a 1st/3rd person character controller, a (shoddy) combat system, an inventory, a dialogue system, a quest system, ect.
My point being that you could toss it together out of free plugins right now.
Of course the important part is the story, the atmosphere, the characters and setting and vibes. But what does that mean? What parts are important?
I've actually asked this before, but one of the immediate points made was that White Wolf would tie you in red tape if you tried to make a rpg about vampires, but does it even have to be about vampires?
If I popped open Unity, or Unreal, or fucking Godot or Fallout New Vegas, and I tried making a RPG soaked with 200X goth/punk atmosphere, would that be close enough?
I want to know what people think.

For me, the essential elements are:
> urban fantasy
> underground (literal or metaphorical) life
> factionalism and power plays
> wack shit with earnest presentation
> city exploration-based gameplay
> simple point-based skill system, maybe perks
> first/third person preferred but not vital
Goth/punk subcultures aren't critical IMO. You could probably feasibly do it in 2000s Britain, 1910s Russian Empire or 1970s America without major losses, though another 2000s urban fantasy series could be a nice source of inspiration.
