First major encounter there's a billion bandits and a cleric among them. If you roll poorly and don’t stop them from casting Slow on your entire party, there’s literally no way to win. You absolutely need to beeline straight to any mage to prevent them from dumping spells on you, all ranged units even skeletons keep kiting your melee, etc.
I don’t even want to think about what the later fights look like when I’m already getting filtered.

this is why I'll never install SCS or anything like it, if I can't beat the game with my favorites it's not worth it, not saying the ones in OP's pic are mine
this is especially true in a game where the NPC's are arbitrarily non-minmaxed with no ability to change stats
same reason I play Civ games on only the hardest difficulty setting that I can still build a selection of wonders, because fuck you building wonders gives me a boner

You installed more than just the improved AI, it's one of the "tactical challenges" components. You can also finish the bandit camp purely in stealth, and return to fight them when you're better prepared, or not fight them at all.

If that is from the bandit camp, what you have to do is find a choke point, alert bandits, web + entangle that place while raining down arrows and fireballs(don't forget wands)
Think about your tools dude
Honestly, I also dislike that part because I really like Coran and that fight makes it so you can't rush to him

The only part that bothers me about SCS, like with so many challenge/rebalance mods, is that it often doesn't seem to give a shit about what "makes sense" nearly as much as what would be mechanically challenging or interesting.

the earliest you can reliable get FB is bandit camp, web in baldurs city. You also have two 3rd lvl spell casts at that point ...

Your main fireball source should be wands at that point, I don't remember where they are but you can definitely get some pre-bandit camp, I spam them there. Check the wiki. I'm pretty sure you can get web much earlier than that, check all vendors. And like 2 casts of it should be enough, assuming you also have archers
I'm also not a fan of it like I said because you can't rush that part for Coran but it's still beatable

made me check wiki for that info, you need to have prior knowledge of the game(i finished BG1 once years ago and done remember much about item placement) and its still hard to get, i finished the camp, came in later replaced Misc with Kivan and now Imoen with Coran.

There's a "billion bandits" because you alerted the entire camp. If that was your plan then maybe come with some aoe spells. one or two sleep or fireball spells takes out all those bandits.

I'm always torn on difficulty mods because on the one hand, yes, the default experience is all too often pitifully easy once you have a grasp on mechanics, or even just an understanding of the system.
On the other hand, they usually overdo it by a huge margin - and I don't mean in terms of individual encounter difficulty (though they might) but in the bizarre insistence on making nearly EVERY encounter difficult. Pacing is crucial, if you're constantly put through the wringer and the game turns into a marathon of bullshit, it stops being interesting.

I think SCS is fine on this, especially with how customizable it is, but I agree with you on general. The main reason I dropped Long War was it really fucks up the pacing of EW

Sneak into the main building with a single thief, unlock/disarm the chest, steal the documents, sneak out. Might require an invisibility potion or two, to avoid triggering a dialogue with the guy who "guards" the door.

that kinda require meta knowledge of the game, how am i supposed to know if some critical information isnt locked behind drop or dialogue from enemy. Funny thing is i watched streamer do this part recently and he did sneak into the tent with full party killed Tazok and then sneak out from the camp before others got alerted. In my game i finally assaulted entire camp killed the bandits but fight was so hard i had to rest before going into tent. I was totally expecting immersion breaking walking in to see the retards inside waiting 8h unaware i butchered 30 people outside. Surprise, surprise
they bailed when i was resting and only person left was prisoner and i found out i need to investigate cloakwood now to find Tazok. Its such a cool detail which made me really appraciate how much work went into this game.

Because this whole area, especially with SCS, gives you a hint that you have an option to do everything without combat. And as soon as you get the documents, the next chapter starts and sends you directly to the Cloakwood Mines.
Return to Baldur's Gate is another chapter where thieves shine.

You would find it out by using a stealth unit to do some reconnaissance and if you still couldn't further your quest after doing as much as you could in the shadows, then you start knocking heads.

In the area after the Nashkel mines, there's a wand of monster summoning in a tomb inside of a cave to the southeast
Spell Revisions/SCS might change it to only summon spiders, but that's fantastic for Web spam

In BG1 the only encounter that I can say was painfully unfair was the fight in the entrance of the Cloakwood Mines, there is a magician with Chaos and the only way of counter it in BG1 is available much later in the game and the spell is for BG2

The problem with most battles in SCS in BG1 is that in after Cloakwood Forest all mages have spells like Chaos that can only be blocked with Spell Immunity, but surprise that scroll in only available in BG2
