>>3784606It's quick and easy for certain game genres instead of fucking around with other engines. Making an rpg is tough enough without having to learn to code cause of the metric ton of content you gotta make to make it fun.
And with the horror or story genre of RPG Maker games you can just focus on the art and story, stuff people actually care about rather than other shit.
What's your favorite way of capturing monsters?

I "researched" a bunch of rpgs that have large reserve parties for monsters, classes, ect...
I wanted to take notes on their UI for their management systems. But I was disappointed to learn that the majority are just basic, one column, lists.

>>3784606>Name one reason to use rpgmaker instead of a main stream engine1. Requires low specs on your PC
2. Pretty fast to load up and work with (this includes copying around and managing assets, since you're dealing with small png files.)
3. Comes with all the necessary assets to make a complete game. Tilesets, music, sound effects, animations and a character generator. And even a face-art generator.
4. So simple, it's like a fun toy. No coding or programming required.
5. Games made in RPG Maker have their own genre. And there are let's players and YouTubers who specifically play RPG Maker games. Bringing RPG Maker games constant visibility. (RPG Maker even has its own thread on 4chan. No other game engine does.)
6. Has been used to make some of the most popular and influential indie games. Yume Nikki, Ao Oni, To the Moon, Fear & Hunger, e.t.c (Games that have then went on to get an anime. Like, Angels of Death.)
7. One-time purchase, and you own it forever. No subscription, no need to connect it to the internet.
8. There are emulators (like EasyRPG & JoiPlay) that run windows RPG Maker games on consoles & android. This expands your playerbase, and helps keep your games preserved.
9. All the RPG Maker assets that have been made & shared for about 20+ years on the internet, are available to you for free. (As long as you take the time to go look for it, download it, and sort it.) 100,000+ files, millions of assets.
10. Can buy cheaper, pre-made assets (from hundreds of DLC) for what you need, instead of relying on expensive artists who may or may not deliver.
11 (kind-of/optional). Default graphics are anime style. And makes you feel like you're making an anime. XD
>>3785178...and it only covered the first 4 jams.
There's been 20 now. 20 jams. Not games. Granted, some of the jams only had 1 or 2 submission. If we had them every month there'd be a lot more. Which is why there's the neocities link in (almost) every jam description.
Even if someone "updated" the image it would be too big to upload on 4chan.
But you already knew that.

capture is working, sprites are almost done, still gotta do some bosses and plan out the map and stuff
i'm wondering if i should flip the supplies and recovery bonuses around - supplies being the bonus that draws more cards into the hand and recovery recycling the discard pile
supplies feels essential to keep momentum from the very start whereas recovery is a small thing that only matters late game when the player's deck is running dry because they're drawing too much
maybe recovery could grant any extra points as supplies if the discard is already empty
>>3785345>i'm wondering if i should flip the supplies and recovery bonuses aroundHard to tell any specifics since I have no Idea how your system works as a whole, but there are 2 principles you can follow - you can either encourage players to spend more cards (limited deck, easier card acquisition) or to play the hand more effectively (unlimited deck, harder card acquisition). The first case is the easiest to implement for you as all the elements are working already, but know that your game will require a casual approach in balancing and will not satisfy those that want complexity. The latter one will require you to add combo mechanics (same race gets bonus to damage/def/heal by a noticeable margin), solo effects (one card triggers unique skills) and some form of reroll in case of bad RNG but I doubt you'll have time to implement and balance all of the interactions, though such complexity will be appreciated as the card game genre is populated bu a zealuos bunch.
>>3785354I'm not sure what category it would fit into. The player has a fixed deck of 40 cards. 1-10 x 4 (a deck with jack/queen/king removed)
You draw a hand of 8 cards and are presented with an enemy of a certain value. you play a card from that hand and if the value is equal or greater the enemy is defeated. you can't play more than 10 points, but you can play multiple cards of the same value (so up to 4x2, 3x3, 2x4, 2x5). If you can't beat the enemy in one play, it attacks back and removes cards from your hand equal to its attack. If your hand can't take the hit, you lose. Played cards are discarded, but it's better to play the card to hurt the enemy than it is to take the hit and discard it from the hand anyway. Eventually you run out of cards in your hand and can consume a limited resource to redraw. When that's gone it's over.
At the start this is basic because you're trying to beat low numbers. Once the levels get higher, you will sooner or later lose, which is where the capture mechanic comes in. If you beat an enemy with its exact value, you capture the card and it goes into your deck (technically it replaces one of the blank suit cards when you next draw). Captured cards are color coded as part of suits and have bonuses. Bonuses are shared to any other cards played at the same time, so a green 2 (double damage) does 4 damage to the enemy, but a green 2 plus any other 2 card does 8 damage. All the other bonuses spread like this. Blue permanently reduces damage from that enemy, yellow immediately draws new cards to the hand, pink recycles the discard. In the video you can see blue 3 and pink 3 played together for a 6 block/6 recover.
Even when you lose, you keep your deck of captured cards. Once you have at least half the deck replaced with captures you'll be playing constant bonuses and should be able to reach the end of the game. Takes maybe 45 minutes from testing.
>>3785258Does that explains how you remembered you forgot you never knew.?
>>3785369Aha, so it's not the mainstream deck builder but a number's game kinda deal.
I have a question - does recovery give you one card per 1 point of discard to the immediate deck or does it work in some other way?
>>3785940Yes, recovery moves one card from discard into deck per point. Cards in the deck can be redrawn into your hand with supplies, but you can't draw any if your deck is empty until you recycle some cards into it with recovery.
It's like a clock, there's about 36 enemies to get through before the bosses and they run the range from 4 to 12 health each, so you will burn through your whole deck before you've cleared them all even if you play very efficiently with double damage and not much overkill.
You need to play at least a few big recoveries to sustain all the way to the end, but you need supplies all the time to keep your hand full to not immediately stall. That's why I think maybe switching recovery and supplies would make more sense.
>>3786006>maybe recovery could grant any extra points as supplies if the discard is already emptyThat approach work perfectly in systems with irrational numbers, but your game is dealing with integers primarily so that mechanic will carry a risk to difficuilty. 1:1 Recovery point to Supply is out of the question as that will make flooding supply numbers way too easy and will remove a big part of the challenge, 2:1 is more rational to use but good RNG will definitely make the run much easier and may encourage exploiting deck rerolls by resetting the run, 3:1 seems to be the borderline between making that mechanic irrelevant and being useful with a good card but there is a high chance that it won't come into play in unlucky runs at all considering that is possible to trigger only with 0 discard. I'd go with 3:1 to have at least some form of a safety mechanism, but I don't know if it's your approach to difficuilty.
>That's why I think maybe switching recovery and supplies would make more sense.Personally, I think that supply works fine as it is if the recovery metod from above is used. You'll need to have some sort of pity mechanic though, like (assuming your game keeps track of all used/unused cards) drawing you strongest (or at least 7-10 value range) card once per battle if your hand is empty - that both penalises the player and prevents truly bad RNG from ruining the run.
Also, fudge the hand on the lower difficuilty encounters - limit the max possible value of the initial 8 card draw to 1-5, that will keep things a bit more fair and prevent discarding high value cards because of RNG to a degree.
>>3785774>no descriptionsLow effort.
I still haven't touched the Enemy Tab in the database.
Pretty much done with the first draft of my game.
It's technically playable from start to finish and takes 4 hours to play.
There's probably too many random encounters, need to work on that.
Also the story and dialogue is ass and there needs to be more NPCs and more of a fleshed out world.
Also still need to make a title screen, come up with a cool name and pick and choose better bgms...
(The main battle theme drives me nuts hearing it again and again.)
But still, I don't have to worry about not finishing on time, I could technically submit it now
and it'll be playable. Feels good man.

>>3785190>Preftty fast to load up and work withRecently, developer Singelx on itch io, released an update for his RPG Maker MZ game "data". This update is for the most part the third chapter of his game, but also included VisuStella's Message system.
Thanks to that, and thanks to the game being text heavy (as it essentially is a visual novel), this game lags like nuts.
When you stay in a room, as small as it may be, with just three events for just a moment, you're going to have to wait 15 seconds or so for a simple "Show Message" to pop up, which will start the event.
Sometimes the character graphic and all other assets have already loadedup, just not the message.
Every new event chain with a show message lags thanks to this 100 dollar price tag obfuscated, bloated script. What did they use it for? In chapter 3, they decided to make the text bigger every now and then in some messages (drama).
Yes, by default, RPG Maker will load up pretty fast- but then people break the game engine and with it the game's speed.
Why do people use visustella--- just why?
Your XML with the plugin list needs more presence.
>>3786053I think for now I'll just reduce the value of all supplies by 1.
Currently the supply card bonus goes from 2-10 (unless you play an ace alone) but can't even draw more than 8 cards because that's the max hand size. Dropping them all so they go from 1-9 will make that suit a bit weaker but probably won't make the game too much more difficult. If it does make it too hard, i can always boost the non-card limited redraw to make up the difference.
>>3786305>beeping cursor text>text heavy gameObnoxious. I couldn't even sit through the video preview.
>>3786305>Why do people use visustella--- just why?Comes with the territory of plugins as a feature.
Shit rolls downhill. Having someone else make a tool for you means you're going to be restricted by the quality of that tool. The end-user is limited by the quality of the plugin, and the plugin is limited by the quality of the program it plugs into.
> Plugin is C++> Badly written C++> Program that uses the plugin is Javascript> Javascript programmed by Japanese keyboard office monkeysTale as old as time.
If the retarded japs and/or investment firms that continue to decline the RPG Maker brand would actually become COMPETENT developers for once in their miserable existences, they'd:
- Stop knee-capping Eventing scripting by implementing the features that older versions had
- Actually provide tutorials on effective coding practices (stop nesting the fucking IF statements)
- Provide an auditing service for plugins that checks for performance and malware concerns; actually curate the media their program uses to expand function
Minimum.
How does WolfRPG compare to MV?
>>3787336I see no reason to use WolfRPG over MV. It's proprietary and has a lot fewer resources like tutorials, documentation, plugins, assets, etc. Also the runtime is windows only, while you can run RPG Maker games on all platforms, Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS, and the fucking web browser too.
>>3787469You don't deploy games until after they're made. The fact that so many responses ignore the actual process of creation, is itself an answer.

>>3786305Visustella plugins are purposefully obfuscated: https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/index.php?threads/obfuscated-plugins-something-you-should-be-aware-of.149094/
if people wanna rely on plugins so hard they should be using MV instead. Lag spikes aren't worth it
>>3787590The documentation and support part already tells you the most important part of the story
>>3788052But who's telling that story?
>>3786305>Yes, by default, RPG Maker will load up pretty fast- but then people break the game engine and with it the game's speed. This is just something you learn with experience, by releasing a bunch of games and then listening to feedback.
Realizing you don't just have to 'make a game'. You need to also make sure it runs well and is optimized.
However, when a dev spends hundreds of dollars on a plugin library... and realizes after year(s) worth of work it's causing issues. By that time, they are locked into a system.
At that point, they'll either blame the RPG Maker engine itself. (Potentially losing interest in the engine for their next project.)
or, they'll blame it on the player. For not playing their game on an adequate enough machine. (Thus, losing players.)
Or, they'll complain about the plugins.
When they complain about the plugins- about their obfuscation and issues, they get shot down & ostracized across the RPG Maker community (run by Visustella & their friends). And getting accused of:
>Encouraging theft of code>Wanting to strip away income from plugin developers>Told they are ignorant & not know how software works>Told the plugins or their obfuscation is never the issue (or not significant enough of an issue)>Their games and their work and post history analyzed to find any dirt on them to throw around and hurt their reputation >e.t.c...it's a pretty dirty game. Run by even filthier developers.
>Why do people use visustella--- just why?1. It's convenient. All the plugins you want, by the same developer, in a package. (You don't need to go around and search a hundred different places, read google translated Japanese, or test for conflicts.)
2. They don't allow comments on their sale page. (A BIG red glad) So people can't know before they buy, about the potential risks.
3. They are endorsed by the official forum, and on Yanfly's blog.
4. Major RPGM communities are run by VisuStella & their friends. Keeping anti-VisuStella sentiments out.

I use MV (because that's what was available when I started), and a lot of MZ's features I can use with MV, by simply opening my MV game with the MZ editor.
>I wanna dick around and make a gameThere are a bunch of other new and similar engines that came out recently (enough) you can play with. Like RPG Developer Bakin, Action Game Maker, RPG Architect, Smile Game Builder.

>>3788663First of all. Idea guys are idea guys because they only have ideas they don't make happen.
It could be simple and cliche, and they still won't follow through. That's what people hold against them.
Innovation and originality is not a goal you can incentivize and reward. And if we're going to praise effort. Then you need to concede that cloning Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy takes just as much effort as going in any other direction.
Which brings me to my second point. Order and structure are not ideas; they're conventions. Of course something is going to happen the crystal of 1000 souls! It's called Chekhov's Gun. If you detail a loaded gun on the mantelpiece, you just know it's going off at some point. Predictable? A little. But the alternative is an asspull. There's a struggle then -boom- wait, they had a gun this whole time? People won't question it if it was preloaded in the scene. They should be processing the emotion of the scene, not the logic.
What if you never mention the crystal? You return from the bat cave and -shatter- wait, they had a sentient god crystal this whole time?
>>3787074Someone, at some point, might make an open source competitor to the javascript rpg maker editor, which would then do at least the same as MV or MZ, but likely more...
Most developers nowadays only learn javascript and practically for rpg maker mv/mz all you need is javascript. The entire game and the engine are in the end javascript, so- the only thing that they'd need to do is use the bloated Atom framework to make something that can copy paste shit, and read the rpg_objects.js file.
and of course something to render the images and put them here and there.
Unfortunately people are very, rediculously lazy and I am not a programmer myself. I should learn javascript I guess.
At any rate, it is a surprise the RGSS system didn't get an opensource competitor. The easy rpg project is ... still in development and not full fledged rpg maker 2003 yet. Yeah--
but for MV/MZ, it should be doable for people.

IIRC the faceset standard doesn't actually have a vertical limit. So I should be able to fit all the monsters on the same sheet, matching the face index to ids. Assigning monsters to blank actors with a script should be easy to automate.

>>3790094I routinely need to read through yanfly's code with RPG Maker VX Ace games ...
I can safely say that it isn't optimal. Some points are fine, some are diffidently exaggerated or just outright causing problems. There are also unnessecary checks of code present; checks that force dependancy on his Core plugin for example, despite not using anything from the core plugin, or the core plugin providing only a reroute of something.
A lot of yanfly's code is fine, because it is mostly if not only a copy paste of RPG Maker VX Ace's original code, (don't believe the text walls as such) with minor adjustments.
For their message system; functionally and what it offers is bare-bones. It sounds as if it offers more than what the default engine did; this isn't true. What it offers is neglectable.
This in itself is fine, but the way they wrote it makes it hard to adjust. It makes no sense either; since it seems like they wrote it in a way that prevents others from easily messing with the code, but practically it only changed things for a newly loaded game, and not during gameplay. So a show message, is already adjusted.
Their message system still makes me facepalm, because I know sometimes you just want to make a larger text box, for books for example, and they made it impossible to use their own code to achieve this.
>>3790256What do you think about ModernAlgebra scripts? His message script works just fine for me.
>>3790256that ctrl text skip makes choreographing complex move+dialogue scenes so annoying
Everyone wants it but now everything has to be packed with little waits to prevent it all going out of sync and that would never have a problem with normal text delays
>>3790094To summarize what Yanfly added:
- a name window
- the ability to draw icons in the text box.
You could already do everything else, yes, including changing the font, but you need to read the manual to find out how.
>>3790261I would need to take a closer look at those, but I do recall that there was actually a problem with the way he automatically formats text boxes- namely that there is a limit to how much text it can handle. Because of that limit, at some point, a sudden unexpected newline would appear. Modern algebra's script is diffidently superior over yanfly's.
This is about as complicated as I'm going to make my game. Just pick some monsters and defeat the dragon. I'm not going to include actual character level up/grinding. I can feel my spirit leaving my body just thinking about adding stats and abilities.
>>3790265you can draw icons in the text box with stock VXAce message windows, check the documentation for the markup.
>>3790266they're automatically fighting and damaging/taking damage from the other monster while they're in the pit?
>>3790271No they're just bouncing around. It's supposed to be a 1-on-1 battle with the dragon. It'll take multiple attempts to bring the dragon's health down. Idk how much HP to give it though.
In theory, I'd make you fight and capture the other monsters first. But...I don't want force full RPG mechanics without an engaging story. So I'll just let you yeet them in like THIS IS SPARTA!!!!
>>3790262The way that works...
(see image, its easier to show than to explain.)
>>3790268\I[n] yeah-- I never use it. I guess yanfly only adds a namebox then. lol wow...
Wait, no there is another 'feature'-- it's the placement of text within the text box (pos).
meh-
>>3790268Forgot:
@show_line_fast is set to true when you use ">"
I have been forgetful lately, sorry.
I do know is that, people don't like waits, especially in text heavy games. Some people already know what is going to happen, yet still have to sit through it. It might be an idea to instead ofusing a text-speed button check to see if they want to skip the whole event.
You'd either need a script for this, or create a common event that would check if a button is pressed and then set a switch to ON;
and then check with every message whether or not the button got pressed- which is where instead you'd insert your "Skip event" option.
It's tedious either way I guess.
What I recommend at least is that you split up the tasks. You have one event control movements, and then once a certain position is reached, they let another event run text boxes.
In case you don't want to use up $game switches, you can use $game_self_switches, of which you have an infinite number. The editor only offers 4, but... you can set them with scripts and check them with scripts as well
$game_self_switch[["switch_name"]] = true
normally the scheme for a self switch is [[map_id, event_id, "selfswitchname"]]
but there is no limitation, so you can do [["event_1_switch_1"]] or something silly.
Rather than using wait (in an event), I recommend using "wait for completion", in parallel- so that, other stuff can happen, but in the end everything waits for switches. That way, even when no more text boxes need to be shown, the characters will keep moving till a certain point before the next text box.
Okay, I have a pretty unusual question. Is there a way to make the gameplay (including player actions) "slow down" for a moment? My game has a stealth section and it works great, but at the moment when a guard sees you it immediately starts a chase. I was hoping there would be a brief moment where things slow down (and maybe the music and colours become muted) upon being spotted, so that the player can prepare. Think of "Reflex Mode" in MGS5. I'm hoping there's an answer asides from "make the engine do a whole mess of dummy calculations so it experiences slowdown," but I admit that this is a pretty niche application.
Thoughts on gimmick sections or sudden and extreme departures from established mechanics and/or aesthetics? I like them, but they're obviously expensive to produce; do you guys think the payoff is worth it?
>>3790365I like them in small doses. As long as it's a fun gimmick I don't see why not to include it.
>>3790365>extreme departures from established mechanics and/or aestheticsI dunno if "the characters are black-and-white now" really qualifies as 'extreme'...

Here's what yanfly writes:
> This variable adjusts the number of visible rows shown in the message window. They make it sound as if it is the Constant shown; it's not. They're trying to say "Assign a game_variable and use that to determine the number of visible rows". Now the code makes more sense.

>>3790425*correction: default font size for a new font object and the one used by default in game is 24. I confused the example with the defaults.

>>3790898I highly recommend the writing software obsidian for keeping track of stuff in your game. You’re able to keep track of how often things are used by using back links, like say if you wanna have an equal amount of monsters weak vs fire and ice. You simply create pages for fire and ice, and pages for each of your monsters, and you enable back links. Extremely useful program, it how I was able to make Monster Summoner Lisa so quickly. That was maybe a year ago. I forgot where I put it. Probably in my "Project1" somewhere.
Played your game Coyotecraft. It wasn't very good, although it has a lot of potential, you should fix it, you have at least 5 days left!
I'll explain what was wrong...
Fighting a dragon with 10000 hp while your monsters deal around 50 - 100 damage each is really bad,
that's at least 20+ plus rounds, way too long. You need to amp up the damage a bit, adjust the stats
of the monsters, so as to make it less tedious to play.
Also make some monsters healers/supporters. I get you probably want healing and by extension hp a
limited resource, which is good, unlimited healing sucks, but it's kinda boring just pressing attack and disabling the enemy
over and over again. Have healing use MP or something if you want to prevent unlimited healing.
I did manage to win against the dragon, but I cheesed it by poisoning it and dealing 1000 hp damage per
turn. And considering the low damage output of even monsters who specialise in attack having a really
low DPS, its the only viable way of defeating it. You should adjust the damage of poison, or consider
using a plugin to have poison damage tied to M.Attack or something.
Also consider having some weaker mobs to fight against, preferably against multiple opponents. The
mage characters who use AOE attacks are completely useless...
Also don't delete it like you did to your game last jam! It looked fun... Fix it!
Your game Overshadowed wasn't too bad either, you should re-release it on your page (unless of course if it was against itch.io TOS... but if it wasn't...).
Anyone got royalty-free Japanese vocal songs?
I used to keep this website where a Japanese band just made a bunch of free music videos, and you can use them freely. But I lost the link. It’s not dova. Think youfulca but a bunch of j-pop songs.
>>3791369I agree with everything you said. But I have a long weekend ahead. I don't think I'll have time to do more than a few minor updates. Which is why I submitted it early.
Of course, I intended the player to level up their monsters to overcome the dragon, like a traditional rpg. But as you realized, status effects like poison is a cheese strategy at lv1. Combined with paralyze or sleep, you can win in minutes. Plus there's that other instant "win".
A little trial and error shouldn't hurt, but I don't blame anyone that closes the game after a few minutes. It's a trash game. You're not missing anything.
I mean, I love RPGs. But I don't think jam entries should be a time sink. Which is part of the reason I didn't want people playing my "One Screen RPG". I had included a cheat weapon, but even with that it still takes time to complete. For no real reward. If I had more story content, I would allow it.
I basically just made it as content for these threads; an excuse to talk shop.
Since I hosted this one, I'll leave it up...for a while.

>>3791421Crappy blob shadows it is
>>3791404I don't mean to assume anything about you, but you seem to be a perfectionist. It seems to be crippling you.
You should have more confidence in yourself dude, it's getting in the way of your skill as a developer.
A lot of other Jam games are quite long as well with plenty of grinding, you should've put in a quick dungeon,
it would've vastly improved the experience, don't think you're wasting peoples time with a quick 30 minute dungeon.
Also, it's not like you're releasing a game with a price tag man, again, just keep it uploaded this time.
I used to struggle with perfectionism as well, but when I finally just said, fuck it, I'll just release something even though I think it's shit,
whether it was my artwork or my comics or my games, and not just delete it immediately after, I found I enjoyed myself more,
even though what I released was sub-par quality and got negative feedback. I also improved greatly as an artist, and found what I
thought was shit wasn't shit at all, and the things I did obsess over and thought were good were shit and needed work. You need other people looking
at your art, it's very difficult to determine your strengths and weaknesses accurately without them.
>>3791493>Continued...You seem to assume that people won't like certain things, and it you may be right, but the only way you're gonna know is release stuff and keep it
released. A one screen RPG is a high concept idea, even if it was grindy, remember that a lot of other jam games are also grindy as well, and
they were pretty fun. I would've liked to play through it, and as far as I remembered, you just removed the page without really asking people what
they thought of it first.
By the way, I did a let's play of your game Overshadowed, in case you didn't know. I couldn't inform you on your page so I'll tell you here...
You should watch, if you haven't already...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEFeaCzIkQs
I won't lie, it wasn't exactly amazing, but it wasn't too bad either. The story itself was pretty good, but the combat and first dungeon really
brought it down. But despite that, it's still a shame that you deleted it (or set it to private or whatever), it was a pretty competent game.
Again, unless it broke itch.io TOS, which, nevermind... And I also would've liked to play One Screen RPG as well, I generally don't mind grindy games.

>>3791496Overshadowed was maybe a fluke. It was part of a 2 week jam, so it definitely represents the most I could possibly pull off by myself in that short amount of time. I don't think I could do that again unless I had a lot of free time and no responsibilities. Or a very clear vision.
Compare it to the current jam, I didn't do any mapping or story telling. I just scraped together a battle. 1 battle! Behind the scenes there's this whole capture system that's more of a conversation piece. For people that just want to play games, it's dumb.

>>3789779It's got some weird issues with targeting enemies. Like, my arrow keys wouldn't work, so I had to switch to mouse. There's be 2 enemies remaining, but only 1 would be listed. Maybe because there were different "rows", I'm not sure.
One time I tried to used an Ether on a character, but it would only select a K.O.ed member. So I said "whatever". Used it. And then the K.O.ed character was replaced with a reserve party member, who then got 1 HP recovery. I don't know what happened.
>>3792113Oh yeah, it’s because of the mouse. If you have the mouse cursor on the enemy or an ally it’ll proritize the mouse and will effectively lock your selection. As for the ether thing I think it selected angel feather instead, also due to the mouse. The mouse is friggin annoying, just keep it off the screen and you should be good. Next update I’ll disable the mouse.
>>3792113Also, I forgot to mention, taunting enemies take prority with targeting when you use melee attacks. I mention it in the tutorial house in Singlet. And you taunt whenever you use melee attacks or use advance defense, so your dudes can only target the back row if you use special attacks, or you’re fast enough to attack first before they taunt. I should’ve put a tutorial somewhere aside from just in the tutorial house…

>>3793084>Anyone tried to use AI to make plugins?Yes. I've been exploring that since the past few days. (Specifically, using Google's Gemini)
You don't always have to use it make plugins.
You can also drop it a plugin file and tell it to add more features to it. Or to resolve conflicts between plugins.
Adding features and resolving conflicts in already-made plugins has worked quite well for me.
Creating a new plugin, (at-least with free resource) seems to be quite the work. Having to report errors, guiding it on what to do, suggesting solutions e.t.c. Something perfect doesn't seem to come out. (At-least for the features I'm going for.)
Yesterday I attempted to have Gemini make a plugin (for MV) to add gradient tint on screen. While it was able to get the effect to work, it kept failing to make the effect persist after a scene change or after returning from the menu.
Today I'm having Gemini create a plugin that would allow me to log value of a variable (like text) as a show text event command inside an event in a map.json file. (It got me something working, somewhat. Still working on it with the AI.)

>>3794319There's one more area to clear after the kitsune, then a save point and bosses. For a strategy hint, play a big pink right before a big yellow and you'll redraw most of the recovered units, or a play a small yellow/pink to shuffle weak cards away from the top of the deck. Good timing of those colors helps a lot.
>>3794278It's kind of trivial with today's AI. But a random name generator would be useful. As well as autocorrect.

retard using javascript for the first time here for MV, I created a custom menu that basically shows some stats that are variables, all good there, but I added an option you click and switches to show the same thing for another character, the problem is it freezes the game there, I have no idea what to do at this point because I dont even know what's wrong since it definetly should work. Just recently release a demo for my game Barako the Pirate. I know before I said I'd given up on it, but I had a change of heart and released it anyways...

>>3797011I do (1) push up.
>>3797011>What do you guys do when you are tiredSleep, wake up, then back to game making!
>and don't have the motivation/discipline/mental fortitude to keep working on the game?Don't think of it like that. Don't wake up with the goal that you have to make a skyscraper today.
Instead- Just tell yourself, that you just gotta place one brick today. Just one brick, that's it. This 'brick' can be:
>placing a few tiles on the map>Writing up a few dialogues in a scene>adding a sound effect in>Setting up an event command inside an event...just the smallest bit of thing.
Focus on placing one small brick, every single day.
As long as you keep placing brick after brick, day after day, eventually... the building is going to be complete. And the game is going to come out.
So don't focus on the game. That's a tall skyscraper- making you question yourself every time you look up at it.
Just focus on the placing the next brick, and once you're done, the next brick after that. And then the next one, and then the next one.
Brick by brick, a game is built.
And anyone and everyone can muster up the discipline, the mental fortitude and motivation, to place just brick one a day.

>>3797173How do you market your games, Sigma? Your games have many reviews on itch io.
>>379728420 is considered a lot?
>>3797284>How do you market your games, Sigma? 1. Making daily update posts (that must involve an image, gif or video), of anything I've done in the day, onto all possible social medias. (Facebook, twitter, itch.io, YouTube, reddit, e.t.c)
Then I see in analytics how this directly contributes and brings new downloads on my games, every single day (that I post).
-
2. Subscribing to YouTube channels that plays any RPG Maker related games and has less than 1000 subs. (As subscribing to them sends them a notification that 'SigmaSuccour' subscribed to them. When they click on that notification, it leads them to my channel with trailers for my games featured upfront.)
I started to do this initially just to show support for these types of channels. But when some of them played my game(s) immediately after I subscribed, it made me realize I've been unintentionally marketing my games to them.
-
3. Similarly, I like huge number of tweets and posts from let's players and Vtubers on twitter. Especially with low likes, as that sends them a notification which reads "SigmaSucccour - Solo Indie Game Dev liked your tweet".
And should they click on my name, it would lead them to my profile. Where they see a download link to my games, and my recent update posts.
(I used to like any and all posts on twitter that mentioned 'RPG Maker'. But that would not translate to a SINGLE DOWNLOAD in my analytics! When I switched to liking tweets from Vtubers, I actually saw more engagement back.)

4. Hanging around in a purely gamer community.
One of the only, decently sized gamer communities I've come across that allows self-promotion (as long as you participate in the community) is r/KotakuInAction:

How do we make the jams fun again?
Hmm
I was kind of hoping to make a sort of Gundamfan game in RPG Maker. But then I realized, I've only seen the original 3 shows and CCA. So, it feels like I don't know enough to do it justice or have it fit in the series.
I could try to make my own mecha story with similar themes as Gundam, but I don't know what I'd do about the assets. I was thinking of just using assets from a Gundam game (this is basically just a project for myself to learn RPG Maker), but then it'd feel out of place with the story and RTP.
Anyone have an idea of where I can get some mecha assets for RPG Maker MV?
>>3797716>How do we make the jams fun again?Shall I start hosting these VRPG jams from now on?
I may not participate in adding my own game to the jam, or playing the entries. However, I can set the jam page up (that looks fun, using my characters) with a unique theme every month (or whatever is the frequency you'd like). And encourage the people here to participate and make game for it as I'm here.
And announce updates about the jam, and so forth.
I've co-hosted one (or two?) small game jams (on itch.io) before. Though I haven't participated in the ones that happen here, so I would want to ask questions how things usually go, if it's all well with you guys to let me host them.
>>3797652>Respect that grindset. Thank you thank you!

>>3797672>don’t know if it’s a wise choiceIt can get you blacklisted and banned from across the games industry and game dev communities. (I already am, so... beats me. XD )
However, the point still stands. Hang out around gamers instead of game devs. And that'll help market your game.
>>3797702>I seriously doubt it's many people who actually hate himIt's more like... when my topic is brought up in front of some people. They feel a religious obligation to say something that would suggest they denounce me (through insult or a direct statement). It's less that they hate me, and more so they are cowards, who can't survive independent of the cult they are in.

>>3798591> Does MV have any benefits over MZ or is it basically the same thing?MZ is fine, it's the latest with more features. (You get the assets when you buy the previous version.)
By the time you figure out MZ, probably the next mainline version of RPG Maker would have come out. (As it has been 5 years since MZ released. And 10 years since MV.)
Since you're new to this (and don't have baggage or a W.I.P project like us), you might want to switch to the latest one whenever it comes out, instead of getting too comfortable with any of the current versions.
Consider 'Action Game Maker', a recent new release by the developer-company of RPG Maker.

Is pixel movement very hard to implement? What about collision off the grid? I know there's plugin scripts that do it but I'd like an idea of the challenge before i'm stuck attempting it on a deadline.
>>3800271implementation usually involves selecting the plugin from the plugin manager and making sure it's checked 'ON'
It's a very big commitment, even if you know it exists. You still have to download it and add it to your project folder.
You might also have to read instructions. If it's in a different language you might have to copy and paste it into Google Translate. Exhausting.
>>3800229I’ve personally used ai, and I see little use for it. It’s way, way too inconsistent for anything aside from hot memes and one off drawings.
Tried to use it for coding, and it’s usually filled with mistakes and is hard to read, and takes more time to check for bugs, rather than just code myself.
Tried using it to generate characters and artwork. Which works, but I have my own style I wanna do which ai can’t replicate consistently.
Tried using it for story, but the ai generates absolute dogshit for story.
I think the only things I will concede that ai is brilliant at is for music, it’s generally amazing. But even then, there’s tons of copyright free music out there also…
I have used ai for coming up with ideas for character designs, but never actually using the actual artwork for my games. Generally ai is good for brainstorming ideas, both in text and images, but trying to directly use it just gives it a boring uncanny feeling to your art… it’s hard to explain, but there’s usually no personality to it, and because you can’t replicate it consistantly it’s kinda useless for unique animation which isn’t a simple walk cycle.
I’m curious Sigma. What do you personally use ai for? Cause again, my personal experience has been mostly negative with it. I’m not against the idea of ai, but my experience has kinda been ass with it…
>>3800617>I think the only things I will concede that ai is brilliant at is for music, it’s generally amazing. But even then, there’s tons of copyright free music out there also…I have no skin in the AI war but AI music is pretty generic. AI art CAN look good, but it looks good in a very specific way. Same with AI music sounding good in a specific way.
Unless you use your own Lora but at that point it's probably better to just hone a skill instead of letting the AI do it for you. It's more fun that way.
>>3800620I dunno, some of my most favourite songs now have ai implemented in them, or at the very least I heavily suspect they do anyways. Ai is dogshit at coming up with lyrics, but combine it with a person actually doing lyrics while the ai does the instruments, a lot of times it sounds amazing imo.
Although I’m not really a music guy, maybe I just have shit taste…
>>3800617>I’m curious Sigma. What do you personally use ai for?For coding:
Case #1. I had a compatibility issue between two plugins. So I gave Gemini both the plugins, told it about the error. And it gave me an if-statement to place over a line of code in one of the plugins.
And the compatibility issue was resolved.
Case #2: I gave DeepSeek Mog's Weather plugin, and told it the plugin had about 36 weather types, and I'd like it to add more. And so it did.
Now I have more weather types.
Case #3: I got it to make a plugin that would add a text code (\F[n]) for show-text command, that would allow me to change font to any size I want, in a dialogue box.
>Generated Images:Case #1: In False GamerGater, an artist tells the protagonist how management forces her to uglify her characters. And this is just expressed in words.
Then afterwards, I got AI to generate two images of the same character, to actually show the player an example of the before & after. How the character initially looked like, versus how the character looks uglified.
So little instances that are just spoken, I can generate an image to visualize them.
Case #2: I'm generating images of my characters as a hobby. When I don't have any in-game screenshot to show in my update posts (or don't want to because of spoilers), I post a generated image of my character instead.
Making sure the post still attracts and garners attention.
Case #3: I added a booru like imageboard gallery in my game. Where I can keep adding and displaying AI-generated images of my characters for player's viewing.
So, it's now just additional content.
> For Music: I just generated lyrical-songs about the game I'm working on, so I can listen to them while working on the game. Which motivates me to keep at it.
Then I simply placed these songs in a music player in the game. (As extra content.)
These songs have lyrics about specific scenes in the game. So they can work to help player recall the events of a story.
>>3800658 (continued) for
>>3800617...for Writing:
There are instances where I feed AI a dialogue or scene, and ask it what it understands from it.
To confirm if my dialogue or scene is having the desired effect. And if the AI's explanation & interpretation matches what I'm going for.
(So I'm using AI as a playtester or a first screener at parts.)
>rather than just code myself.>I have my own style I wanna doI don't code or draw. So that's why it's useful for me in those aspects.
I can write and create decent stories, and so I don't go to AI for that.
Since you code and draw yourself, then yeah- I can understand you not having as much use for AI-gen.

You’re also wrong about rpg maker being easy to make a game with. Although it has a simple interface and there’s barely any coding, it still requires a ton of other skills to make a good game out of.
Programming isn’t the only skill involved with game dev. There’s also art, writing and game design, all stuff involved in making a game with the engine, and all skills which are difficult to master on their own.
If you don’t understand that, I seriously doubt you’ve made any good games, if any games at all.

>>3801142>mind explaining how and why are visustella plugins bad ?It's explained in this very thread. Refer to:
>>3786305>>3788446Basically;
1. they obfuscate their plugins, making it take longer for PC to read their data, causing performance issues.
2. Many of their plugins are bloated with too many features crammed into them, that you won't all use. And so with this 'bloat' of unnecessary features comes more performance issues.
3. Because of the bloat and use of 'cores' (which has code inside them for plugins you may not even be using), they conflict with plugins outside their library often. So it's either you pick visustella (200 plugins), or plugins of all the rest of the community (2000) plugins. You're not going to be able to (comfortably) have both.
4. You can't edit or customize VisuStella plugins as easily. Since again, they are obfuscated. While most other plugins released are open to be edited.
A lot of this you won't think matters much to you. But that's only right now. As you enter later stages of developing your game, these elements will hit you hard.
Slow down your development, because each time you launch playtest it takes longer for it to load up.
Reduce your playerbase due to performance issues.

>>3801316To be competitive is not to imply that something is "a competition", merely that the engines are functionally anywhere near parity. RPG Maker is not. Or is everyone jammed out?

Also I need help with a telegraphed attack. I want the enemy to attack 2/3 times, show a warning and then do a big attack. I can't get it to work, the fucker either doesn't do the warning or just keeps making it instead of doing the strong one. These are it's attack patterns:
Warning Turn Count 4x+5 Rating 90
StrongAttack Turn Count 5x+5 Rating 100
Normal attack Turn count 1x+1 Rating 10
>>3802116Yeah, I use CGs like Phantasy Star 2 does overlaid on the screen to show detailed story bits.
>>3802324Turn Count conditions for enemy skills are global, meaning the player taking a turn will also up the turn counter for the enemy's skill. It's stupid, I know, but that's how it is. The best you can do is play with the tools you're given. Here's some tips for that:
>If you have a set of Switches, you can chain skills together by having a skill turn its own switch condition off, and then turn the next skill's switch condition on>Using MP conditions also allows for successive skill useage by having each skill cost a set amount of MP, then making sure that skill has a condition for a certain threshold for the enemy to have to use itAlso, it seems you understand the Rating system, but just remember that the Rating of a skill checks for any other viable skills within a Rating range of 10. So a Skill with Rating 70 will check for any other skills with Rating between 60 and 80.
Also if a skill doesn't have at least one stat checked, an enemy just won't use it. This is because of some really retardedly limited AI that makes it assume a skill that doesn't target stats to be a Status healing skill, and will only consider the skill viable if anyone on the enemy troop is afflicted with a Status the skill could heal.

What used to be a tool for creativity has become a crutch for mediocrity. Each new version is marketed like a revelation and released like a beta. The real work gets done by plugin devs who burn out while being hounded for free support by people who never read the instructions.
Meanwhile, the forums have devolved into daycare centers for thin-skinned moderators and their friend circles. Honest critique is labeled “toxic,” and empty praise is treated like currency. If you’re not part of the inner clique, expect to be ignored—or worse, lectured by someone who hasn’t released anything playable in a decade.
And the games? The same handful of ideas, recycled endlessly. Half the releases are dressed-up tutorials, the other half are softcore self-inserts with default tiles and pirated music. There's no ambition, just a loop of comfort content propped up by feedback that's more about ego maintenance than improvement.
I’m done pretending this community is a creative hub. It’s a hospice for unchallenged habits, where growth is feared and mediocrity is aggressively defended.

>>3804248>The real work gets done by plugin devsThis is the only point I would object to.
I don't agree with a couple of points, but praising plugin devs, even going as far as saying they do the real work... no.
Plugin devs are after quick praise and quick money, delivering mediocre bloat that needs finetuning to get it to work with other nonsense they release, except that they nowadays prevent you from doing it by obfuscating them; at least those attention beggars do this.
Imagine a plugin developer actually making good plugins: --- they get worn out by the establishment of RPG Maker Web, aka, Visustella's cult.
Take a glance at fossil for example.
oh, but of course, mediocre plugins such as yanfly's nonsense is heavily praised, despite their problems.
and despite him being anti "learning from his code" -- everything is code stealing to them, even though, there aren't that many ways to write a function or feature, and even though most of his code is a copy paste of official code by kadokawa.
The problem is, those who seriously wish to create, are punished by some.
Unless they lack of a presence.
But if they do get a presence, they still get punished. ... even popular game devs, like omocat and ... i didn't care enough to learn their names, but whatever. You get the point.
It's like people are fighting them about being important to others. Consequently, games and their developer, and plugins that are left alone are mediocre.
The plugin devs of these mediocre bloated things are too lazy to fix their things; which remain broken for years.

>>3804707>Plugin devs are after quick praise and quick moneyTo expand on this point- it's not just plugin devs.
People come in to the community to make games, but realizing how difficult and draining it is to finish a game and make it successful. They fall back on doing something else- something simpler in the community.
Something that would get them results (of money, praise, attention, notoriety) faster than finishing games.
And so, they become plugin devs, or sell assets. Or become moderators and manage the community.
They become streamers, critics, or someone who makes tutorials.
And as they do that, they abandon working on their game.
And that's how, the RPG Maker community out there, is full of people helping one another, make absolutely nothing.
And that's how, when someone comes along in the community who actually makes games and focuses on making games. It sends the community into shock, into envy, into fear, and reveals their dirty sides. Hence,
>The problem is, those who seriously wish to create, are punished by some.>It's like people are fighting them about being important to others.RPG Maker community is not a community about making games. It's a community where you pretend to.

I think the issue is mainly that I want to do too much, aside from feeling like I am not capable or worth anything. People have always commented that I am worthless and such, and then getting kicked out of school when I was little also kinda reinforced the idea that I don't belong anywhere, nor are capable of doing anything.
I only sometimes play games to be honest. Honestly I don't know what it is I want to do exactly, because picking up a pen and starting to draw out an idea causes the set of memories and feelings to punish me for it basically. It doesn't feel rewarding to do stuff at least.
Thanks to that, I mainly keep myself busy helping out others here and there, kinda like an empty shell I guess.
Some people in your server asked if I was working on anything; myself and slowly would be the best answer I suppose; not a game unfortunately.
Considering the image,
I was thinking of making simple tutorials to be honest since I noticed some struggling with the older rpg makers and, the number of resources is dropping there. I have no clue how to make videos though.
RPG Maker game dev is diffidently not easy. Even making maps with the default tools is a struggle for a lot of people, despite a lot of these projects not even using the combat system. All they tend to know is how to use and spam "Show Message" lol. it doesn't make the game interesting nor fun on its own no.
Fixing bugs? They tend to skip out on this as well. Sometimes they don't even playtest their own game and it is completely broken midway for months due to this. sigh-
At least I play test in their stead, when I play.
>>3806097Not to assume anything about you, but dude, making games isn’t that big of a leap. You seem to put it on a pedestal, like it’s a high skill level thing to even make a simple game.
Sure if you want to make the next chrono trigger it might be, but you should lower your expectations and just finish and release something, no matter how garbage you think it is.
And chances are, a lot of stuff which you think you’re worthless at, you’re actually good at, and the stuff you think you’re good at you’re actually bad at, and the only way you’re going to know which is which is to actually put something out there.
I myself struggled with a lot of which you’re describing. I used to be a perfectionist, thinking that my game had to be amazing if people were to like it, and spent a decade making it in isolation.
But after a mental breakdown, i realised how stupid I was being and just made something small and released it. It made me feel x100 times better, even though the first game I made wasn’t that great.
I suffered from a weird, abusive childhood as well which stunted my emotional growth, and I tended to blame myself, like it must be my fault as to why people don’t like me.
But what really helped was simply just saying, no fuck that, it’s not my fault, it’s their fault, they are the ones who have the problem, not me. And considering you were a child when you got kicked out, you can’t blame yourself for that, kids don’t have the mental capacity to be responsible for that kind of thing.
Of course if you’re happy just helping other people, i mean do it. But it sounds like you’re not. You should join next jam, it really helps having a time limit and a few people who’ll play your game for finishing games.
>>3806230Lol wait, said not to assume anything about you, but ended up assuming everything about you… sorry about that… these goddamn tiny text boxes make it difficult to look over what you’ve just said…
I still think I’m probably right in my assumptions though, you need to throw caution to the wind and start throwing hands man.
Sure, people making fun of you doesn’t feel great, but at the same time the conditions for people liking you is the same thing which is involved in people not liking you. You gotta take risks in life and do stuff which others may not like, in order for other people to like you and be happy.
>>3805807>(none of which have been played by you)I don't play games anymore (haven't for years). I only make them.

>>3806097>I realize I may be a bit out of place in your server for that reason. When I realized my error in creating another dev-exclusive space, I changed my server's name to 'RPG Maker Culture'.
Shifting its theme to be generally about RPG Maker and its culture.
So you're not out of place at all.
My criticism was towards the dev exclusive spaces.

>But it sounds like you’re notI'm not sure what makes me happy more or less. It's hard, but things do often feel like a bother. Much like what you said, I realize that, the pressure around me was bigger than I could handle, and so it was the whole system that was flawed, not me. After all, many people don't make it.
The problem is that society is a meritocracy, in other words, if you fail, people believe you deserve to be a failure. They blame laziness, even though laziness is rarely the case for a child's failure.
Indeed, what got me out of depression in part was realizing that it wasn't my fault, but theirs. What I cannot control is not my blame and, people expecting I should be in control is a failure of realization. People are blinded by their own life experiences; they simply don't know and think others are living a life similar to theirs.
Yet, oddly enough they can tell that "I am weird":. Meh-
>>3806299Thanks, Sigma. For reading and giving people a place I mean.
I do want to leave something silly or enjoyable behind for others at some point though.
Devs do need gamers, at least to hunt down bugs and help make their game reach the best state it can get to.
I'm sorry for sharing a story no one wants to hear. Life sucks for some unfortunately.
I guess I am disappointed in myself lol; that is why I shared that. Since it is a community related thing, I also feel responsibility. Sometimes, acknowledgement can be motivating; as it at least reliefs the stress behind it, even when no one bets an ear to it. Kinda like, how in some anime the protag starts to shout something similar off a mountain.

Why has this place turned into discord?
>>3806406>>The problem is that society is a meritocracy, in other words, if you fail, people believe you deserve to be a failure.Hey it's somewhat true. Of course, thinking that everything is your own fault is crippling and bad to do, but going too far in the other direction is dangerous as well.
A person thinking that they have no power or free will to change themselves will cause them to lock up as well. It's a balancing act, and having faith of the goodness
and righteousness of truth, like knowing when it's your fault, and knowing when it's its society's fault, I firmly believe a person can find happiness.
Not to get too religious, but knowing what evil is and how it looks like, and knowing what good is rather than thinking that everything is just morally grey helps too.
Maybe people can be good in some ways, and bad in some ways, but the individual actions people take are nearly always good or evil IMO.
>>3806509Invasion from offsite discordfags and RMW posters who like to talk about their gay little forum drama but the mods don't give a shit
>>3806509Because of Sigma obviously. A lot of people who come from here, get intrigued by Sigma and join his discord, or join the corrseponding anti-Sigma discords.
And a lot of people who come from Sigma's discord hear about this place and come here. Not to mention people who hates Sigma attempt to get everybody
to hate Sigma cause they come from the mainstream discords.
Also a lot of people simply need to communicate with on discords to get feedback or help with stuff as well, so you're kinda forced to go on there.
I personally think it's harmless, on account of this board basically being dead anyways. I seriously doubt more people would come here and join

"Do people think that they will be let go merely by saying: “We believe,” and that they will not be tested," (Quran 29:2)
"We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life, and crops. Give good news to those who patiently endure—" (Quran 2:155)
>you refuse to take interest in other people*in other game devs.
Yes.
My interest is only in gamers.
Game devs play my game and go: "Help me with my game" (if they feel like not bullying me with their personal-moral superiority)
While gamers play my game and go, "More kudasai!"
Huge difference.
>can you kill yourself please? It's major-haram. And I prefer waking up in Paradise, not hell, when I exit this life.

>>3790770With scripts easy, not sure it can be done with events depending on what you want from it. One event way is save player x/y in variable, transfer player (no fadeout) to new map that's a 1:1 copy of the other map but with a different tileset. I did this in a game to fake moving walls and floors in a maze, since i only have to synchronize a few events between all the duplicate maps. If you have lots of moving events or whatever this won't be good enough.

>>3806663Only instead of admitting they don't know what they're doing.
They'd just talk about something else, like how they're "naturally racist" living in the UK with refugees, and link to some random porn site.
>>3806805Back then I didn't even have home internet. In-between logins I'd just make stuff. Character and monster designs. Just to have [something]. Basically, it was me learning how to use image software like GIMP.
So nothing became of my first RM collaboration "Norse Tactics"
with some random dude, "GANSTA". 4 months, 5 emails.
I can still download the demo from the email attachment.
It wasn't like he didn't do anything. He instigated the project and wrote up a document detailing some characters and a premise about a barrier stone being removed from a volcano. But everything done in RPG Maker was by me. He never confirmed that he looked at it.
Eventually he was like "Oh no. My hard drive is ruined. I lost everything."
Uh-huh.
>>3806805>No MsgPlus>No MessengerDiscoveryWhat is easy, natural and obvious to some isn't to others.
The image portrays a male character as a sobby whiner when they don't understand the basics, which people hold up as an expectation. Notice how the female character twists the male character's intent for them, rather than letting that character decide their intent. Here's what she seems to be turning the intent into:
1. The character desires to pet and knows fully well how to, but just says random stuff to gain permission from her to do it.
2. The character is afraid of petting a dog (which she finds retarded).
This assumption is why she ends up pulling his hand, rather than demonstrating or explaining how to do it. This is a response you find online more often, with English natives especially; them not at all understanding what someone is saying literally. It's as if they rather perceive fiction, an imagination in their head, than listen to the other.
Now the first character also falls into this same trap at the end of the comic, namely them assuming that they're not allowed to do the action, and therefore no one explains it to them in a way they understand. He misunderstands the female character, and how she perceived him.
This isn't a problem with English, but rather the culture. People tend to lie, or hide their true intentions. "How are you." means "Its good to see you." "I'm perfect." means "No." People have to guess what is going on instead a lot of times, rather than listen to one another, and so they stop listening.
That disconnect is what I think this image is trying to portray.
>>3806663Some people need social connection with real people; they can absorb knowledge better that way, but yeah- there is a lot of rejection online, pretty much everywhere.
Nowadays everyone has chatgpt on their phone whom they can ask, yet they still find it nessecary to ask you or others.
Guys, is there a way of using skills outside of battle in RPG Maker 2K3? I can't figure it out.
There's a skill type called "switch" that can activate stuff but it doesn't show up in the skill menu on the overworld.
>>3806845In the time it took me to write this I already solved my problem. I don't know why this always happens to me, maybe writing it down helps?
>>3806663That comic reminds me of watching people stream my game.
They didn't heal between battles, or search around for secrets, or upgrade their weapons,
or experiment with different moves they gotten, they simply mashed attack and skipped most of the tutorials and dialogue,
and said the game was too hard. Being a RPG game dev is suffering... The people who've said that JRPG fans are retarded

either because what you didn't wasn't 'perfect' enough, or because you have an opinion or idea, even if you don't share it on a platform, expressed within the game (that they perceive somehow), which causes nonsense.
Be prepared for such.
I myself have never tried MZ... or anything with javascript. How is it?
How does it feel to create a new game, and have it take in 300MB by default? (seriously, with VX Ace it was like 12MB, they upped it by a ton)
Jokes aside, they apparently put part of the default assets in the dlc folder inside the installation directory, likely inside SteamApps somewhere. It sounds inconvenient.
Also, the character generator isn't exactly richly filled by default, which also makes it a bit tricky to work with. I suppose the intent was for Gotcha(x2)Games to sell DLC, rather than this 'engine'. Another hint that gave me the idea is the fact that the manual doesn't contain any instruction on how to learn javascript. (older rpg makers did actually teach you how to program with them)
I think you're getting yourself into DLC and expensive 'plugins' not working as you'd hope; especially since all people advertise is western stuff, mainly visustella and other expensive nonsense. I recommend Sigma's plugin list XML in case you want any.
but before that, I recommend making a game with complex mechanics, without using DLC. Figure out how to do complex nonsense using just the interface. You can do a lot with just that.
Also use common events. Don't be afraid of splitting up events into smaller events.
Can anyone post their copy of Rosedale_CollisionAlteringGUI.js into pastebin
Imagine being an RMW mod asking people to pirate resources they're never going to use.
