After playing p5r I want to catch up on the older titles in the series
Can someone tell me if the following list is the definitive way to experience the games
Emulated:
Persona 1 - PSP version with original music patch
Persona 2 IS/EP - PSP version with eng patch

Play on platforms where available:
Persona 3 FES and maybe Portable
Persona 4 Golden
Bonus original Catherine, I heard full body was controversial

am I missing anything? aware of persona 3 remake but I want to play the original first since it's available

Skip Portable, if you want to replay 3 play Reload. Portable turns 3 into a literal VN and doesn’t really change the writing to accommodate that, so a lot of scenes fall flat compared to the original.

Its pretty good but remember its a sequel of the original game. The Royal content is not canon there.

Cathrine is fun short and weird. It’s puzzle game, but if you liked the persona story the cutscenes are a fun watch. I think just playing them in reverse order is fine. 5 really is the best imo. the gameplay is pretty much the same but less refined with different characters. if you don’t care about the date sim aspect smt has the same combat

P1&2 are very different and pretty dated.
Persona 3 is best played in the remake version, it fixed so many of the problems of the original it's not even funny while expanding it.
Persona 4 Golden is fine, if you don't want to wait for the remake.

Catherine is a pretty good and interesting game. But if you don't love puzzle games, consider playing it on Easy. Also play Full Body, only idiots think it's controversial and it's the best version.

Strikers is solid, but you've got it wrong. Royal is canon, Strikers is a what-if sequel that is non-canon.

Strikers is a non-canon spinoff made by a different studio that used vanilla as a baseline because Royal wasn't out yet.
Atlus then made an official revised version with Royal, which is canon.

Do you really think if Atlus made a sequel to P5 or P6 had things from P5 in it they would use Strikers canon and not Royal canon (you know, the thing they made themselves post Strikers, which clearly meant this is what they wanted narratively). Get real.
You might shit on the writing of P5 or P5R, but Strikers has noticeably worse writing. Strikers mostly just does a decent job of putting up a facade of being a Persona game.
