Imagine what gaming would have been like without dragonquest (which also made half of gamers think that slimes are even more Japanese goombas rather than macroscopic single-cell organisms). More like SlimeThemepark, ROFL.

It's a feedback loop.
Games like Dragon Quest existing ultimately got more people into DnD hoping they could act out their own version of these games, which in turn ensured the latter remained relevant.
Renove Dragon Quest and you DnD dies, likely resulting in no RPGs at all.
