What made you think this quirky game will be welcome in this CYOA & CRPG wasteland?

Like any of these games, you should hone in on specific mechanics and build characters around them. ex:
Reverse Toxin+Weak Stomach+Poison Touch+Poison Attacker+Poison Defender+Eternal Venom = Use a food item to heal an ally, they gain regen, a poison counter attack and +1 attack that lasts the whole fight

I remember the beetle did well as a tank, and the moth is good as CC. So your bee should be your main damage dealer, she has multi hit attacks, so raising her damage even a little is useful, regardless of the side effects.

Both, both is good, bug fables lacks alot of the polish the paper mario game has, but is still VERY good as a game heavily inspired by it.

As for builds, idk, I think what anon above me said about the reverse poison build was pretty accurate, but if your early on you don't have alot of options for set up yet anyways, just focus on upping your atk however you can early on, wait till later in the game when you have enough badges and BP to theory craft.

It's pretty much "Quirky earthbound indie RPG" but with an actually believable setting to be quirky I guess. Most of those quirkybound games usually have realistic setting but with quirky characters. This time it's sensible.

But still quirky.

I've owned this for awhile and still never played it but it looks promising. I loved Paper Mario and this is clearly inspired by that. I'll get around to it some day.

During the first two chapters you get painfully few medals that boost your damage output. Favorite One and Last Wind are two good medals that are available early. TP recovery consumables are a pretty big deal.

How far are you into the game? The first couple chapters are pretty limited in what sorts of builds you can make, it opens up way more from Chapter 3 onward.
