RPGs with character creation should bring back gender difference for stats and class choices. The ideal for RPG design should be increasing the diversity of play, not trying to appeal to moral sensibility.

I liked it in King's Bounty. Sorceress is a female-only class that has high magic power, weekly allowance, and initial gold, but low strength, leadership ability, and comission rate. Giving each class not only unique gameplay traits but also unique appearance provides them more character, which in turn makes them more memorable. However I don't think I'd want that if character creation is involved. Those types of games I prefer to be as player-centric as possible, and gender difference for stats sways more towards limitation than variety, at least the way I look at it. It's true that I'd prefer seeing fantasy women dabble more in non-physical activities, it does make sense, but as far as my character is concerned, I want to be the one to decide what she dabbles in.

This is why I often replay the SFC version of Tactics Ogre over the PSP one or the recent remake. There is something special about building your team around males using strength and endurance at the front and middle while women heal, throw status spells or go back and forth between supporting a skirmish line and falling back a couple of block away. It's not that cut-and-dry with Wizards and Sirens in the mix but I pick that over how restricted and similar across classes stat growth is in the remake.

You can always enforce this rule for yourself.
If your character has high strength and endurance, you make it male.
If your character has low strength, endurance, intelligence, wisdom, responsibility, attention span, reasonableness, financial discipline and ability to catch a cricket ball, make it female.
