>>3798005It kinda ruined the original game for me. It's impossible to soak up the atmosphere of being a detective in 1930s Japan when every 5 steps theirs an encounter. It doesn't help that the combat is so bland in the original game.
I do have some criticisms of the remaster that only became apparent after playing for a bit. Initially it seems like they made the combat alot better. But they should have play tested it some more because your demons just gobble up mag. So in practice you basically just spam weak attack all the time to keep your demons mag topped off. Raidou in the original was the carry but in the remaster he very much feels like he's just supporting his demons. Maybe that's more fitting for a devil summoner but the weak attack spam the combat system breaks down into kinda sucks.
Also the change to the guns where initially exciting to me but I almost feel like the gun was more impactful in the original. Even if buying ammo was annoying. In the remaster it's useful for slowing down or stunning fast zippy enemies and taking down gun barrier walls and that's about it.
Also wanna criticize the game as a whole, both original and remaster. The first half is really good and makes you feel like a detective. After chapter 5, the second half of the game, the detective mystique very much gets thrown to the wayside and the game is mostly just recycled content. Theirs very little new areas chapter 6, 7, 9 etc are pure backtracking. The plot tries to do some interesting things with the multiple timelines and curses etc but the content in the game is super front loaded. Kinda disappointing.
As much as I like raidou, I can understand why so many people grumble about wishing DDS got a remaster instead. It's the better game series.
