And Death Stranding didn't do anything really unique. It's a poorly written fetch quest truck sim in the vein of Mudrunner and similar games (except worse).

I'm talking mechanically about making traversing through rough terrain, thinking about how to move through it and such. That is not an original idea and has tons of games like it.
