Even if you consider it an honorary SaGa game it's still outclassed by two of the Romancing games and both Frontier games and two other honorary SaGa games.

the use-to-increase stat system just doesn't fucking work with a purely turn-based combat. the story is way too fucking small-scale compared to anything else in the rest of the series. the characters are weakly written and boring.

really, the only thing giving 2 worth is that it is a direct prequel to 4, what with kain being ricard's abopted son.

no. you can play like a dickhead in any rpg, but no one's forcing you to play ff2 by "min-maxing" at the start of the game. your characters will grow into their roles over the course of your playthrough. i think jewtubers convinced zoomers this is how to play the game
>>3794690
it's definitely a weird concept to have all that customization for a turn-based rpg on the nes, where you only need swords and elemental black magic + some early game white magic to beat every encounter, but the leveling system fits with the theme of how it's a bunch of kids with no combat experience learning how to fight along the way

I beg to differ. I played it a few times (mainly GBA and PSP ports) and I'm baffled SE didn't implement different effects for the spells when used against yourself, such as Fire/Blizzard/Thunder giving your weapons Fire/Ice/Volt attributes instead of causing damage or Scourge giving your weapons Poison chance. And if Darkness persists after battle, why not Confusion? EB did something like making your characters walking in directions different than buttons pressed (like going left when pressing right) after some steps outside of battle. Not going to deny your opinion, it's good, but it could've been better if SE was more about fixing old games' content than adding extras when remaking.

I just played through 3 and miss 2 already. The little story and world is so interesting. They did a great job with it. 2 has such a fun adventure with cool characters along the way. 1 and 3 you get these nameless heroes and a big adventure, but something about all the guest characters you get to play with and meet makes it a more fun or at least a more memorable adventure.

That's just how zoomers experience games. There's no intrinsic sense of wonder for them, it's just pre-reading optimal strategies, mindlessly mimicking that, and then weaponizing this experience to loosh farm online. the problem with 2's spells is that you need to level up Esuna to have it cure more ailments and stuff like Teleport deleting your HP.

There's a reason why not even japs care about FF2 while they rave over FF3. It's clearly from a period where Square had no idea where to take it now that they have a series and it shows. I beat it many times across NES, GBA and PSP versions and occasionally defend it from people who say it's worse than AIDS because I'm an autist, but it's a flawed game and you will never meme it into some hidden gem 10/10 because it just isn't.

You should see your weapon level go up after the first two or three battles, which is your alert that using weapons raises their level. Hell even if you have no weapon equipped your fists level up instead.

First off, it's cure AILMENTS you illiterate retard
Secondly, ESUNA has been a mainstay cure-all spell starting from FF2 and all FF2 spells evolving into stronger versions of themselves on their own is not only better than anything they've done after it, it's also explained in the manual
Lastly, there's literal weapon skill levels in your status menu, so even if an illiterate ape like you can't understand basic english and read the goddamn manual to know that this is an actual mechanic it's not hard to acknowledge this basic game mechanic

I play the Pixel Remake and I didn't realize you could turn off gaining hp after a set amount of battle. Now everyone's HP is more inflated than an poorly drawn image uploaded by an autist on rule34. Feels bad when enemies deal 1% of my HP in damage.

An IQ of 135 is objectively required to not get filtered by this game. Scientifically proved.
