>>3798461>>3798469I think the main problem is that there are so many points of entry one could take to get into RPGs and "RPGs" is such a catch-all that for one person who really likes one point of entry would be less able to appreciate an RPG focusing on a different point of entry.
For example a lot of people like Lufia 2 because of it's puzzle dungeons, but if you fucking hate constant, nagging, puzzles? Lufia 2 is going to be a slog for you. If you like the streamlined pacing and story-telling of Chrono Trigger? That's great, but if someone wants to build a character into what they want then CT doesn't have the appeal that an FFV or an FFT would have.
Like what do you prioritize when you want to kick back and have some fun?
If someone is busting their ass at work, school, with the kids, whatever... sometimes their mental energies are spent in such a way that they don't want to do a bunch of character min/maxing or bullshiting for meme builds... or perhaps they don't want a bit stupid cumbersome story, that's not even that great anyway, getting in the way of their character building, monster slaying, and loot gathering.
In a sense an RPG is like a sandwich and most people like the whole package thinking the sum is greater than the constituent parts, but god damn if you're tired of one of the parts? Just off mayo? Well then you don't want fucking mayo on your fucking sandwich and it doesn't matter if the sandwich is god's gift to gourmet dining, fuck mayo.
