This. It's a cool setting and most of the characters are pretty cool too, but the actual game is mostly just kinda slow and boring.

It's basically a mash-up of any popular 90s anime into a Final Fantasy clone mixed with some point&click adventure elements.
It's pretty cool if you can get through the occasional boring stretch.
There's a cheat that lets you instant-win combat encounters with a key combo, so that could help get you through the slog of fighting the same basic enemies over and over.

I miss the time I could just see an edgy-lookin dude with giant arms he shot out like rockets and be amazed and hyped by the fact he joined the party

SC is a good game, but ruined by the most slow, soulless and boring version of ATB to date. combat was a chore that detracted from the game. It wasn't until 3/4 through the game where characters were fast enough to get continuous attacks and do cool stuff.

I was able to tolerate anachronox due to the quality of the minor npc dialogue. And that game had abysmal combat.
