OP is correct. The music in all DQ games is generally bland. Repetitive, uninspiring, dull. It can sound nice for what it aims to do but overall it needs more oomph on a lot of tracks. The serene and tranquil ones work but they have no battle music that's good, nothing that makes you wanna move.

SMT on the other hand is phenomenal in this regard.

She's not undeserving of criticism. I'm sure your mother isn't perfect either anon

I finished DW/Q1 for the NES today, I'm not sure what the rest of the franchise's music was like. I played some of IX when I was younger but admittedly not much of that music has stuck with me either. If at all. Have yet to play an SMT game, though.

Also I'm just surprised I guess because Mother 1's soundtrack is pretty great, I think. It's also for the NES but way better than DQ/W1. But it might be unfair to compare

I just felt like expressing my opinion and seeing what others thought. The music wasn't as enjoyable as other NES games' :/

Sort of. I like that I've got some engagement from other people. Including you anon. Thank you. Do *you* like DW's music?

Hate to tell you this OP but the same criticism applies to the whole series.

I don't particularly value chiptune video game music in any way.

You won't like any retro RPGs if you dislike chiptune that much
I can see how they can be grating though long term

In DQ1? The music varies. I hate the battle theme but it's so ingrained in me that I don't think I'd change it either. Later DQ games have better music, even as early as DQ2.

I played many of these games at release. It was just background music. The levelup jingle made me feel good.

Aw. Shucks.
>>3795249
That's fair. Is there any videogame music you *do* actively care about?
>>3795259
Noted, thank you
>>3795376
The battle theme especially, yeah. And whatever plays when you're in a dungeon/cave. I don't mind the town or overworld or title screen themes but I don't think they're strong enough for how much time you spend listening to them
>>3795393
Very true that the level up jingle is key

Holy meh Batman. It's just like a loop of the standard jazz lick (like, DEFGECD) with some tiny variations. Mindnumbingly repetitive imo
